Even the best games of all time andthe most satisfying narrative experiencesin gaming all have a few things that could improve the game as a whole. Tales of Symphonia is already a rich experience, but since it was originally released all the way back in 2003, there are more than a few improvements that could be added.

10A Fully Orchestrated Soundtrack

Music lovers will probably agree thatTales Of Symphonia has an excellent soundtrack. The one issue with remasters is most people know that the focus is more on the visuals rather than the music. Putting the fantastic soundtrack into an orchestrated or even a band-based form could be incredible.

Imagine booting up the remaster to hear a fully orchestrated version of that beautiful opening theme. Then there’s the iconic ‘Full Force’ that plays in battle, a track that would only benefit from an incredible live-instrumentation feel.

9Fully Voiced Skits

One of the highlights of every Tales game is the many skits that you’re able to experience throughout the game. Since so many are highly situational, it’s more than likely that two average players will experience completely different scenes in their individual playthroughs.

Because the skits add so much humor and lore to the game, it would have been fantastic if they were all fully voiced. The voice cast for the game is loved by fans, so hearing more of those voices likely wouldn’t be a problem for anyone.

8More Anime Cutscenes

Fans of JRPGs probably aren’t going to be telling anyone that they aren’t a fan of anime cutscenes in their games, especially when fighting is involved. While the cutscenes that already exist in the game are perfectly fine, it would have been a real treat to get even more than we had previously.

Making a few unique encounters shift from the standard scene to an anime one could provide a lot more opportunity for action rather than characters standing and talking. It also could have added some more mystique to the various “angels” and summons.

7A Playable Prequel Story

It would have been a lot of work to include an entirely new playable story, but a DLC-length campaignthat followed the likes of Kratos and Mithos on their journey of world regeneration could have been a fantastic way to expand the world.

It might help you empathize with Mithos a bit more considering it would force you to play as the villain. Additionally, witnessing how Martel died and even seeing Kratos meet and spend time with Anna could have been fascinating to play-through.

6New Side Quests

It seems like a simple request to say that the game could have thrown in a couple of new side quests for returning players. Some might say that the game already has more than enough side quests, but as long as there’s an interesting story, there’s never enough.

Even allowing for a kind of major remix mode that could stack on top of Mania Mode could add a lot of replayability to the remaster. Putting entirely new side quests in a mode like that would entice you to keep playing long after you’ve beaten the game.

5New Enemy Designs

While there are plenty of interesting enemies in the game, the best designs are often relegated to the bosses. While it does make sense to face wildlife-themed enemies, the remaster could have tried to add a bit more monstrosity to those enemies.

Even updating the human enemies that can be fought could be interesting. Seeing a bit of an update on the Desian design could keep you wondering about what other things might have been changed. The changes don’t need to be huge, but they could have given the enemies a neat facelift.

4Re-Worked Overworld Travel

There isn’t anything wrong with the overworldtravel in Tales Of Symphonia Remaster, but it could be a bit more interesting. Battles and the odd skit go a long way in breaking up a long journey across the map, but more could have been done.

Adding more things to do in the overworld could have helped to keep this aspect of the game fresh. Maybe rescaling the size and adjusting how movement works could have created a bit of a surprise element, making for a new take on the same world for returning fans.

3Re-Done Voice Work

There is nothing wrong with the voice work that is already present in Tales Of Symphonia Remastered, and some might entirely disagree with this point for fear of losing the cheesy magic of the vocal delivery, but a new take on the lines would have been great.

The script is cheesy enough that none of the magic would be lost, but new vocal takes could get rid of some of the more clunky moments. While the actors were at it, paying them extra to fill in those skit lines would address two of the points on this list in one go.

2Changes To Boss Fights

There don’t need to be any drastic changes to any of the boss fights, as many of them are actually quite good and challenging. The changes that could be made could either revolve around the boss’s individual stats or their moves.

An increase in the boss’s stats could force you to think more tactfully in your battles rather than slashing to win. At the same time, throwing in a few new attacks for bosses could keep veteran payers on their toes, since they won’t know what to expect from each subsequent boss fight.

1The Inclusion Of Dawn Of A New World

While it’s fair to say that not everyone loved the direct sequel to Tales Of Symphonia, many more absolutely loved experiencing the journey of Emil and Marta. Seeing this game being a surprise inclusion with the remaster would have made the price tag all the more worth it.

At worst, those who weren’t the biggest fans of the entry don’t play it, and at best, fans who love Tales Of Symphonia get another huge RPG to play through in order to spend more time in a fantastic world with great characters.
