Harvestellais a massive JRPG by Square Enix with seemingly endless side quests to complete for each of your available party characters as well as many other NPCs in the game. With this many side quests and plot lines to explore, you would be forgiven for missing one or two, or maybe even twenty, of these backstories.

Many connecting side quests in Harvestella link together to create a whole saga. These in-depth plot lines are one of the most charming things about the game and keep drawing you back to it even longafter you have finished the main campaign.

10The Woman Who Gathered Snow

The Holy Capital Argene is home to one of the longest series of side quests Harvestella offers. The saga begins with The Woman Who Gathered Snow and takes around four more side quests to complete.

The woman who gathered snow is a young and devoted girl who works in the local Temple’s confessional. The role of someone who works in the confessional is to listen to the town folk’s troubles and nothing more, but Claire simply can’t help but try and solve everyone’s problems for them.

This leads to her getting into a lot of trouble with the church, and eventually, she loses her job. Thankfully, however, the church recognized her good deeds and reappointed her as the town councilor. Watching Claire struggle between her duties and her inner drive to help people is quite humbling, and the happy ending she gets is very well deserved.

9A Voice From The Well

A Voice From The Well is a Lethe side quest, and due to its unique conditions, it is one of the easiest ones to miss. The Voice From The Well side quest can only be triggered after 8:00 pm around the well in Lethe.

Speak to a woman loitering around the well near the smithy to get your next mission, which is to defeat some monsters in Higan Canyon. Once again, you must meet the mysterious woman around the well after 8:00 pm to complete the side quest.

8The Mayor’s Pen Pal

The Mayor’s Pen Pal is one of the saddest and also the most heartwarming side quests in Harvestella. The quest begins as the Mayor asks you to stop in and see his pen pal in Shatolla.

When you arrive at the residence in Shatolla, you learn that the Mayor’s friend passed away some time ago, but his granddaughter continued to respond to his letters on her grandfather’s behalf as she didn’t have the heart to break the news. The Mayor is, of course, shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his friend’s passing, but the two decide to continue writing to one another.

7The Haunted House

Lethe is home to many of the game’s side quests, including one that possibly contains the biggest plot twist. The Haunted House sees you investigating noises coming from a supposedly abandoned house at the back of Lethe village.

Upon investigation, it turns out that the previously abandoned house isn’t so abandoned after all. The house belongs to a missing person, and his faithful girlfriend minds his house until he returns. Of course, the story couldn’t end there. The subsequent side quests see you finding and rescuing the missing NPC and reuniting the couple.

6The Missing Wife

The Missing Wife quest in Nemea is close behind The Haunted House in terms of the best twist. A local man from Nemea enlists your help to rescue his beloved wife, who was tragically swept away by monsters.

Once you dig a little deeper, it turns out she wasn’t missing at all. She was just sick of her husband and ran away to stay with a friend instead of working through their troubles. However, seeing howdestroyed he was about her being in danger reignited a spark, and they ended up happily ever after.

5Missing Memories

Each main character you meet throughout your journey can be added to your party. They also come with their own set of side quests to complete to get to know them a little better. Most of these side quests allow you to unlock more advanced job skills in their respective field, providing a nice incentive to complete them.

The Unicorn, on the other hand, doesn’t. For this reason, many might skip over his side quests. But they are actually rather good, and his backstory is incredibly interesting. The Unicorn’s quest involves his realization that all of his memories about the Princess are fake and his struggles to either accept them or forget them altogether.

4The Shadow Assassin

All of the party membershave incredibly deep and interesting backstories, especially Istina. Istina’s side quests are well worth doing, not only because the Shadow Walker job class is one of the best in the game but because it is also genuinely one of the best plotlines.

Istina comes across an imposter, posing as the Shadow Assassin and killing people at random. Her quest to learn the identity of the imposter and put an end to their violence sends her on a long path toward self-acceptance.

3The Capital Inn’s Secret

Harvestella is full of adorable creatures, butthe Conellus are the cutest by far. But just because they’re cute doesn’t mean they don’t have an often-missed side quest. The Capital Inn’s Secret is well worth doing. The story spans several side quests, which first uncover the secret lodgings of a Conellu in the inn.

The Conellu is embraced by the inn owner and given a job in which he flourishes for quite some time. Sadly for those that grew to love Coco, he eventually returns to his home, which is an upsetting yet fitting resolution to the side quest saga.

2The Bartender’s Secret

While Shatolla’s tavern is an essential piece of the Shatolla puzzle, it appears that the townfolk don’t know the Bartender as well as they originally thought. Many of the long side quests that have several chapters to them end up getting missed by players who find themselves swept up in the main story, and this one is no different.

The Bartender’s plot line first follows a girl who has a crush on him and ends up following him to the forest to see if he is meeting another woman. The side quests seem like a one-and-done as, in the end, she moves on, confessing her love for you instead.

The Bartender’s story opens up from here, however, and follows him revealing his true identity to the whole of Shatolla amid fears he would be run out of town.

1Milika’s Secret

Milika’s Secret is a chain of side quests that can be easily missed. It takes place in the early game, when you can get distracted, and requires the completion of three more side quests to conclude the tale.

The quest follows the story of Milika and her two friends, Van and Vent. It’s easy to get frustrated at the squabbling young children as they struggle to accurately explain their feelings to one another, but completing the side quests and reuniting the friend group is worth the time, effort, and frustration.
