The world of Athia is a treacherous place filled with corruption at every turn, but there are still a number of characters that actively attempt to change the impending fate of the land. And though Frey has few allies in New York City, there are still a couple of characters that seek to positively change her life. These are nine of the best side characters in Forspoken.

This article contains plot spoilers.

9Auden Keen: Helper And Healer

You’re not in Athia for long before being persecuted and perceived as a dangerous demon. Frey is ready to face the worst of consequences, but Auden uses her voice to sway the Council, saving Frey’s life.

Not only does she prevent you from being killed, butshe also risks her own life to aid in Frey’s escape from the dungeon. Auden has an enormous amount of faith in Frey, so much so that she’ll put her own life on the line. She’s also one of the few characters that will give Frey a much-needed reality check.

8Tanta Sila: The Tanta Of Strength

Tanta Sila is the first Tanta you meet in Athia. She is a cruel character suffering from a declining mental state. She’s incredibly paranoid, immediately assuming the worst of Frey. In an attempt to kill her, she uses a child as a puppet, which subsequently gets her killed. Fromthis instance and the following boss fight, you may think Sila is downright evil.

But, as you learn more about the story of Athia, you start to realize that she’s a fiercely protective character who cares deeply for the people of Athia, and like the other Tantas, she ends up being a great help to Frey.

7Tanta Olas: The Tanta Of Wisdom

Meeting Olas shows just how powerful and unique each Tanta is. As the Tanta of Wisdom, Olas’ role is to educate the people of Athia, but she also has the unique ability to manipulate the minds of characters and the surrounding environment.

She’s essentially a less interesting version of the Scarlet Witch, but she still plays an important role in Frey’s journey. Even when she began losing her sanity to the demon, Olas still taught her community and gave insightful advice to her colleagues, and became an ally to Frey.

6Tanta Cinta: The Tanta Of Love

When you start Forspoken, you’ll probably wonder who Frey’s parents are and why they left her behind. And when she ends up in Athia, it’s more than likely that your questions will be answered. When Frey first gazes upon Cinta’s face, it’s in a portrait while she’s preparing for her battle against Tanta Sila. She’s immediately drawn to this face, suggesting that something more is happening between them.

Upon discovering Cinta is Frey’s mother, who deeply loved her before and when she was born, everything makes sense. As the Tanta of Love, Cinta is a caring and empathetic being. She has the utmost faith in Frey, and does everything she can to aid her on her journey. Plus, her being a dragon is pretty cool, despite Cinta not wanting to be.

5Tanta Prav: The Tanta Of Justice

Prav is the voice of unbiased judgment in Athia. She’s the Tanta of Justice, meaning she makes all decisions regarding crime and punishment. Unlike Tanta Sila, Prav’s position in Athia’s justice system causes her to be split between irrationality and rationality.

She wants tohandle Frey’s trial with an iron fist, but the rational side of herself recognizes Frey’s right to a fair trial. Aside from being one of the cooler boss battles in the game, Tanta Prav is a good side character because of her unbiased nature and care for Frey, the other Tantas, and the people of Athia.

4Robian Keen: Cognoscent Of Junoon

Commonly known as “Break Bob” by Frey, Robian is an important side character in terms of world-building. He’s one of the few characters that has a thorough knowledge of the break and the concept of traveling to different dimensions.

He genuinely wants to help Frey, which is probably the reason that Frey cares for him more than other characters in Athia. And because he’s such a helpful character, it’s hard to watch his mental state steadily decline whenever he’s on screen.

3Johedy: Archivist Of Cipal

Johedy is a character that doesn’t accept nonsense. As an archivist, she’s focused on the facts of a situation rather than letting her emotions control her opinions. She’s a strong character with a dominant presence. Johedy takes up space when she’s in a scene, especially when she’s pushing back against Frey.

Many of the characters in Cipal speak very highly of Frey and view her as a heroic character, but Johedy doesn’t fawn over her as other characters do. She holds Frey accountable and to a higher standard than others.

2Homer: Frey’s Companion

Though she’s a cat, Homer is the first character that Frey clearly bonds with. She’s one of the few characters Frey feels responsible for and actively cares for. You don’t spend too much time with her after the fire burns down Frey’s apartment, but Frey frequently mentions her when she’s in Athia.

Frey truly wants to go home while she’s in Athia, despite being loved and supported by other characters. You may find yourself wondering why Frey is so desperate to return to Earth, besides the obvious fact that Athia is slowly being corrupted. She doesn’t have much back in New York, but she does have Homer, and that’s enough to convince her to return.

1Maya Bird: Judge

It may not seem like it from where Frey’s standing, but Judge Maya Bird is one of your first allies in the game. And before Frey finds herself in Athia, Maya Bird is probably the only ally she has—besides Homer, of course. Maya sees the struggles that Frey is going through and actively tries to help her improve her circumstances.

She also cares enough about Frey to care of Homer while she’s gone. Despite all her reaching out, Frey is too distrustful to allow Maya to help her. But no matter how much she pushes back, Maya still puts in the effort to help someone who’s been down on her luck since birth.
