The anime adaptation followed on June 15, 2025, produced by animation studio 8bit.
The story centers on Yoichi Isagi, an aspiring footballer. Following a devastating loss that crushed Japan’s World Cup hopes, the Japanese Football Association implemented a controversial program called Blue Lock, orchestrated by Ego Jinpachi.
This isolated training facility houses 300 of Japan’s most promising strikers and pits them against each other in high-pressure matches.
The competition is ruthless—losers are eliminated, leaving only one striker to be crowned the egotistical striker Japan needs to win the World Cup.

After a devastating loss in the World Cup, the Japanese Football Association introduces Blue Lock, a groundbreaking training program. Within this secluded facility, 300 of Japan’s most promising young forwards, led by our protagonist Yoichi Isagi, are thrown into a merciless competition.
Blue Lock operates on a harsh principle: “The loser is out.” Players like Isagi, initially placed in the underdog Team Z, are confronted with the vast skill difference that separates them from the program’s top tier.
Each match becomes a life-or-death struggle, pushing Isagi to his limits and compelling him to refine his skills—especially his killer instinct as a striker.
Throughout the season, Isagi navigates this cutthroat environment, forging alliances and fierce rivalries with other talented players like the enigmatic Rin Itoshi and the prodigious Nagi Seishiro. Each match presents new challenges, demanding constant adaptation and the development of new techniques.
Through unwavering determination and a thirst for progress, Isagi discovers the key to becoming a top striker. We witness his evolution as he survives the First Selection course, forms a partnership with Seishiro Nagi and Meguru Bachira, and narrowly avoids defeat against the superior team of Rin Itoshi, Jyubei Aryu, and Aoshi Tokimitsu.
Isagi’s relentless pursuit of victory continues as he and Nagi defeat Shoei Baro and Asahi Naruhaya, securing their place in the Third Selection course. There, alongside Nagi and a begrudging Baro, they overcome the formidable ex-Team Z trio of Rensuke Kunigami, Hyoma Chigiri, and Reo Mikage.
Reaching the pinnacle of the first season, Isagi once again challenges Rin. However, despite a valiant effort, he falls short. Yet, in a surprising turn of events, Rin chooses Isagi to join his team.
With the stakes higher than ever, season 2 opens with the Japanese Football Association threatening to shut down the controversial Blue Lock program. In a bold move, program mastermind Jinpachi Ego challenges the Japan U-20 team in a national representative match.
This high-profile showdown serves a dual purpose: securing control of the Japan National team and showcasing the skills honed within Blue Lock to the world.
The stage is set for an epic clash between the Itoshi brothers as Sae Itoshi leads the Japan U-20 team, while Rin Itoshi takes the helm of the Blue Lock team.
