Chainsaw Man chapter 173 recap
The traumatic events from the past few days all come crashing down on Denji. After learning of Nayuta’s death, Denji loses all human consciousness and goes berserk in his full devil form.
Public Safety’s Special Division 6 swoops in and is quickly taken out. Whirring blades decapitate each member and Denji’s “gut scarf” pierces through each head, culminating in a pretty badass visual.
One of these fiends was the Ear Devil, who the Chainsaw Devil consumes. This results in all ears fading from existence and memory.
Luckily, Public Safety was prepared for this. After confirming the Ear Devil’s erasure, “Team C” severs their fingers in front of three mirrors to spell out the word “HIT” with their blood.
The command is noticed by an ominous devil sitting on an appendaged throne, which punches the Chainsaw Devil from a large mirror near the ceiling.
This allows Yoshida – Denji’s classmate and Public Safety officer – to restrain Denji with a giant tentacle, and force him to expel the Ear Devil’s severed head.
The last panel shows an elephant’s ears return.
