As you might expect from that, there’s the possibility of being booted out to the world map if you fall in certain screens of this dungeon, so we hope you’ve been practicing your platforming! At this point, you should have mastered Valkyrie’s movement.

Celestial Castle Overview

Celestial Castle isn’t too tough a dungeon - there are some nasty areas to deal with, but the puzzles and platforming contained within aren’t too frustrating - especially if you make liberal use of theRewind featureintroduced with the remastered version of the game.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Celestial Castle Chimera

Has very high RDM and RST, so PWS attacks are recommended to deal with them. Can deal a lot of damage and the poison status to the entire party, so be ready with the Heal spell, too.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Celestial Castle Second Staircase

Very bulky for a Harpy. Can cast some spells, but they do not do much damage.

35,000

Very bulky and dangerous, but exploiting its holy weakness should help out a lot. Whisp is a very threatening spell, so be sure you’re healed up at all times when taking these on.

With such low health and three weaknesses, these enemies are fodder more than anything else. Don’t let them live long, though, as they can wear you down.

Poison

2,800

Very frail, but can cast nasty spells. Poison Blow will destroy them easily thanks to their low health.

As dangerous as they are in the Forest of Spirits. If you have Infernas, which instantly kills them, use it. Otherwise, just go all-in on PWS attacks in an attempt to kill it in one turn.

Can use Rain Blow to target your back row, and has a high faint rate. Despite this, you should have more than a few tools to deal with these monsters by now. If they get the drop on you, they will target your back line with impunity, so be wary of them in the field.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth - Celestial Castle Genevieve Fight

Looting The Castle

From the beautiful entrance screen, enter the castle to the right. Climb the stairs totake the right exit at the top, and then continue all the way to the right until you reach an exit to the front. Here’s where you’ll find the traditionalEye of Heaven.

Leave this room, then take to the nextexit to the front to the right. Press on to theright and take the door at the end of the hallway, which leads to a chest containingGhoul Powder.

Backtrack all the way to the screen with the stairs, and take thelower exitinstead. Defeat the Forager in here and continue on, being sure to pick up theFlame Jewelin the chest in the next room. From that chest, head all the way to the right, take the frontal exit and then takethe first rear exit in the next room.

Getting Across The Bottomless Pit

Descend the stairsto reach the underside of the castle.

If you fall off the platforms on these screens, you will be booted to the world map, and you’ll have to spend more Periods getting back into the castle. If you are playing on the remastered version, use theRewindfunction to avoid this - it isn’t worth the hassle.

The chests on the lower level here contain aWassail-Rapier, aVegetable Seed, and theShield Criticalspell book. All three chests containexplosiontraps, so beverycareful to avoid them, lest you get thrown off the edge and back to the world map. Remember that you’re able to run past chests to avoid the explosion!

Use the chains on the rightto grapplealong to the next chest, which contains aQuartz Gem, and then use them to get up to the next level, and head to the right.

Use a large crystal to reach thefloating platform near the door, and then avoid the explosion trap in this chest to get aReflect Sorceryspell book. Use the chains to move along to the right, opening the chests (and avoiding explosions) to get theConcentrationskill book, aLucerne Hammer, someAqua Vitae, and anotherGhoul Powder.

If you’re struggling to avoid the explosions, try picking up the chests and moving them to one side of a platform. This should give you enough room to form a safe space after opening it.

The Butterfly Rooms

Once you have all the treasure you want, head back into the castle to the right and up two screens of stairs. On this screen, you have touse your sword to kill all of the butterflies. Once they’re all gone, you canmove on to the left.

The next screen has more butterflies to kill, but also twoorbs that fire freezing lasers at you- you should be familiar with those by now.Every time a laser hits you, some butterflies that you’ve previously killed will get revived. Kill all the butterflies again, trying your best to avoid getting hit by the lasers.

In the next screen, save your gameand open the chest on the left to get theSword of Silvans, which is a really nice weapon with three hits and a chance to paralyze.

Reaching The Boss

Head to the front from the save point, and then take the left, and then an exit to the rear. From here, you’ll need to simply keep following the linear path, heading to the right, avoiding or dealing with the monsters however you wish.

Eventually, you’ll reach a save point.Save your gameand then get ready for the boss fight.

How To Beat Genevieve

You might recognize this undead fromJayle’s recruitment phase, where she was a very easy fight. Backed up by two Daemonic Barons, Genevieve is a one-woman slaughterhouse of magical proportions.

42,000

14,000

140,000

Despite being the squishy frontliners, the Barons are not unthreatening.Despotic Nailcan deal a lot of damage, and they can self-buff withMirror Image, making them hell for your physical attackers to target. You’ll want toget rid of them quickly, so use your PSW attacks if you manage to fill your combo bar - you have plenty of time to take on Genevieve.Genevieve can use Healwhen either her allies or herself have dropped to low health, so try to finish the Barons off with efficient combos.

Speaking of, Genevieve has an attack calledIndiscriminate, which will fire off four spells against random party members. These can deal a huge amount of damage, so you’ll want to be topped off, health-wise, at all times.

Make sure you’reheading into this fight with full health- the enemy will always go first, and Indiscriminate can pull off a major upset from the word go.

Sorcerers are key in this battle. Not only can theyHealthe entire party efficiently, but they can also castReflect Sorcery, which is almost necessary to make this fight go well. With Reflect Sorcery, Genevieve’s Indiscriminate will be interrupted after the first cast, and it’ll help you win the damage race. Remember,Reflect Sorcery lasts only three turns, so you’ll want to ensure you generate lots of magic orbs to reset your sorcerer’s CT gauge.

The Barons can be silenced- haveValkyrie equipped with a bow and Noise Arrowto eliminate their magic attacks. Alternatively, cast Dampen Magic with your sorcerer.

Genevieve’s most powerful attack is likelyPoison Blow, which deals upwards of 25,000 damage. If you don’t have Reflect Sorcery up, try to haveequipment that resists poison damage- such as theHeraldic Garbor theBracelet of Basilisk. AMirror of Pleiadescan help, too, as it’ll send the entire spell back at Genevieve if it triggers its reflection effect.

When she’s low on health, Genevieve will start using Cosmic Spear, which will do a huge amount of damage to your entire party, so don’t get complacent when you’re close to victory.

There arethree artifactsto pick up after defeating Genevieve.

Berserker Bow

An incredibly high-power bow that deals poison damage, but only has a one-hit combo. The Elven Bow is superior.

Armor of Aleph

Very strong armor that protects against poison damage. Huh, would have been very nice to have in that last battle.
