Combat Basics And Essentials
The Importance Of Your Pacts
You’ll unlock morepactsto organize your party as you play through the game. While they allow you togroup charactersto fight enemies and strengthen each other, they also play a role in yourcombat abilities. As variousclasses level up, you gain morepassive abilities, but they’re limited to theactive abilitiesavailable in thepacts, allowing you to mix and match pacts to build your characters how you want.
For example, thePeer Fortressclass focuses ondefense, drawing aggro, and staying alive. You can mix that idea with asupport roleby giving them theHealer pact, allowing them toheal teammates. You’ll unlock morepactsas you play, so try various combinations to see what works for your playstyle.
You should try tomatch pactswith a class’s playstyles. For instance, you’ll see more success from having aFighter pactwith theShinomashirarather than theTheatrical Star.
If you don’t know what to have your classes use at first, stick with theWitch’s pact. It comes withInstant Aidto heal a character20 percent of their HP, making it useful on any character.
you’re able to fill your party withmultiple pacts and characters. As you play through the game, you’ll find moreSoul Vials, which allow you to makeadditional party members. Rushtwo of themas fast as possible since you start with justthree party members.
Pacts havevarying strength levels, so the combined numbercan’t exceed 100.
Ensure you balance your pacts to remainunder that numberwhile havingfive party memberswhen possible.
Healing In Combat Vs. Healing In The Dungeon
you’re able to useabilitiesin combat toheal your characters, but you can’t do the same with items without apassive ability. The same applies totraveling through the dungeons, so you can use your items, but youcan’t see abilities. You’ll need to plan your healing based on yourDP and item needs.
For example, if you know you don’t have many items left, try to get your enemieslow on healthand heal your charactersbefore the battle ends. You can getone enemy lowand focus onhealing for a few turns, then finish the battle once your health is back up. If you runlow on DP, you can do the opposite withitems.
SinceSilverisn’t always easy to find, prioritizehealing in combat. Also, you can alwaysleave the dungeonto heal your characters instantly.
If you’re about to approach ared event, heal firstsince you’ll potentiallyfight a boss. You can leave the dungeon and return before starting toavoid wiping outandlosing Mana.

The Vanguard And Rearguard Combat System
You can organize your teammates into theVanguard and Rearguardbefore or after combat. Each has itsbenefits and drawbacksyou must consider as you choose one.
You takeless damage from enemiesand getless aggrosince you’re farther back.
You don’t deal as muchdamageto enemies.
The best position not only depends on theirclassbut theirweapons. If you don’t have the right weapon type in the correct position, you’ll suffer adamage penalty, and the message “mismatch” will appear when you attack. The only exception applies to weapons that fall into both since you’re able to use them ineither positionwithout any damage penalties.
Move a character to theRearguardif they runlow on health. It doesn’t take a turn to move them, and you’ll decrease their odds of getting knocked out, so they may survive until they can receive some help.
Yourenemiescan stand in theVanguard or the Rearguard, just like your party. That means if you attack theVanguard, you’lldeal more damageto them, so you’ll want toclear the front rowbefore you attack theback row.
The game doesn’t tell you which row they stand in, but you can tell by theirpositions. The characters in theVanguardwill beslightly forwardin battle while theRearguard charactersareslightly behind, so focus your attacks on those in thefront row.

Enemy Stance Changes
Monsters give hints while you fight them, so ensure you don’t look away during battle and pay attention to changes.
You’ll come across theTarrely, a monster inside abarrel. It stands typically with thebarrel around its headthe bottom on theground, and thelid on its arm. However, it’ll sometimesgo into the barrel, causing you to deal minimal damage to it. Instead of continuing to attack it, you should focus onattacking other monstersuntil the Tarrely comes out of itsbarrel. You’ll encounter other monsters withsimilar shifts and changes, so learn about them to avoid wasting time in battle.
If you ever forget a character’s weapon type, check thesquaresin thetop-left cornerof theirhealth portraits.
Their color-codes let you know if you equipped apiercing, slashing, or bluntweapon to them.
Secret Crest Special Abilities
As you equip differentpacts, you’ll gain access toSecret Crests. Secret Crests refer tospecial abilitiesyour character can use when they havefull Liberation meter. Remember, the Liberation meterdoesn’t carry overbetween fights.
That means you shoulduse your specialsas soon as they are available. Since they sometimes deal damage whileapplying different effects, they can turn a battle around. They alsodon’t use other resources, so you’ll save time, HP, and DP for more challenging battles.
Repairing Body Parts
As you fight enemies, some of them may attack you with agore hit, which causes you tolose limbs. You can lose either yourarms, yourlegs, or yourhead. The body parts willlower your attack and defensewhilelosing your headwill cause you to getknocked outinstantly.
Sometimes, this effect will happen to your characters, so youmust repair your body partsimmediately. you may eitherreturn to the surfaceto restore them orpurchase a repair itemfrom Marta. If any of your characters end up with the gore effect and lose a limb, don’t continuethrough the dungeon. Doing so will place you at a severe disadvantage, so address it quickly and get back to exploring afterward.
