In the Sacred Phase between Chapter 6 and Chapter 7, Odin himself will speak to you inValkyrie Profile: Lenneth. His orders are simple - to take the broken Accursed Flame Gem, bring it to the Forest of Spirits, and have it repaired by the elves who live there.

This is no simple task - the elves lack the tools to repair the gem themselves, and so it is up to you, in grand RPG tradition, to do the legwork for them. With our help, you’ll be collecting items and collecting treasures in no time.
Forest Of Spirits Overview
This dungeon is available to all difficulties, so you shouldn’t be expecting the most difficult, torturous puzzles. In addition, all but one of the enemies found here are rather simple to defeat.

A beefed-up version of the plants from Salerno Academy and Nethov Swamp. Their Rhizome Spear can hit the entire party but is easily blocked, so be on the lookout for counter opportunities.

Use a multi-hit spell to decimate these when they appear. Their pitiful health pools will be their undoing. If they get to attack, their Grim Rush can be quite painful.

As with other crab enemies, these have a huge RDM stat, so physical attacks aren’t that useful. Use fire magic to break them apart easily.

Flying enemy, so use magic or archery to bring it down before a melee onslaught.

This enemy’s normal attacks will deal a huge amount of damage, often outright killing characters (or entire parties) in one attack. Have Auto Item set up with Union Plumes if you plan on taking them on, and exploit their weakness mercilessly.

Can use Equipment Break, but is pretty weak to magic. Use multi-target spells to eradicate them all to protect your items.
With so many enemies weak to fire, it would be a fantastic boon to have theInfernas greatswordequipped, which willinstantly kill any enemy it strikes if it’s weak to fire. The Infernas is acquired from theCitadel of Flame, which is only available onHard mode. If you are not playing on Hard mode, just usefire spellsto beat most of the enemies here quickly.
Finding The Elf Village
As soon as you enter, you’ll spot anobscured cheston top of a branch. Open it to obtain anEye of Heaven, but beware of the arrow trap - you don’t have enough room to jump over it, so just move to the right as soon as you open the chest to fall down and avoid it.
From the entrance screen,head to the left. When you get the chance,head to the front. On this screen, there are a fewobscured ledges in the background. Leap up to find a chest containing aTimer Ring, and further up, another chest containing aDampen Magicspell book.
Continue on to the left and talk to the Elfyou find there.Move to the front, and thenall the way to the leftuntil you reach ascreen with falling leaves. There are two chests on this screen, aHealspell book on the right, and aSylphan Robein the tree near the entrance.Return to the elf, and thenmove past them to the leftuntil you reach asmall room with another elf, talk to them - this is thePolar Fountain.
Move one screen back to the right, and then to the rear. Headall the way leftuntil the screen becomes misty and you start acutscene with a thirdelf. The elf will become your guide, and take you to the elf village.Move to the left again to learn that you need to go on a scavenger hunt to repair the Accursed Flame Gem. There are four items you need to acquire, and they’re all in the forest.
How To Get The Polar Drops
Leave the village and then return to the Polar Fountain(one screen to the right, one screen to the south, and then one screen to the left).Walk into the pondto get somePolar Dropsand a bunch of Event EXP.
If the Polar Drops are not there, simplyleave and return. The pond alternates between dry and full every time you enter.
How To Get The Charm Feather
Now,return to the right and then to the rear, and then takethe next rear exit, which is on your right underneath a large root. Take thenext exit to the rearthat you’ll findon the left, and thenhead all the way to the leftto find a chest containing aLucerne Hammer.
On this screen, take theexit to the rearandhead leftto meet another elf. Talk to them and they’ll warn you of theCockatrice nest to the south. Take thepath to the frontjust next to them andsave the gamehere. Climb up the trees on this screen to find two chests containing aSap Powerspell book and aGolden Egg.
One screen to the right, you’ll be faced with the Cockatrice.

The cockatrice will get the first strike, sohope that it doesn’t use it to turn your characters to stone. To this end,Stone Checksare cheaply Divined at the save point and will protect you.
The cockatrice will spend most turnstrying to turn your characters to stone with its breath attack. It’s not a hard fight, especially if you’re using a warrior withInfernas- one hit with that sword will instantly kill the fire-weak bird.
When you win the battle, you’ll get theCharm Feather.
How To Get The Golden Candlestick
From the cockatrice’s nest,head back to the save point and then to the rear again. Head backpast the elf and to the front again, but thencontinue on to the right. Take theexit to the front on this screen, and thenmove all the way to the right until you drop off a cliffand meet another elf.
The elf warns you of the ape, which is found on this very screen. Usecrystalsto jump up the branches, andyou’ll find the ape hiding at the top of the screen. Approach it to start the fight.

A rareice-weakenemy in this dungeon, anIcicle Swordwill make short work of them. Alternatively,just beat it down with your usual strategies- it’s tough but has no tricks up its sleeves.
How To Get The Silver Thread
From the screen with the ape, head to the right and then two screens to the rear. You should be on a screen with a very bright, sunny background. Headone more screen to the leftandclimb the treesto find a chest containing aWassail-Rapier.
This screen has lots ofMandragoraencounters on it. As such, you’ll want to be very careful to start battles with a pre-emptive attack. Mandragoras are very dangerous.
Headfurther to the leftto find an elf who tells you about the Great Spider’s nest.Take the path to the front near them, and thenone more screen to the rightto find the spider.

As you can tell by its name, you can expect to be dealing withpoisonin this fight. It’s also pretty good at inflicting thefaintstatus, so be on the lookout for that, too.
If you’re able to exploit itsweakness to holydamage, the battle will go that much quicker.
All in all, it’s not a tough fight.Auto Item with Banishset up is a good idea here.
With that done,you have all the items you need to repair the Accursed Flame Gem.
How To Repair The Accursed Flame Gem
From the spider’s nest. headone screen to the left, and then one screen to the rear, back to theelf. From here, you need togo to the left until you can take a frontal exit-move to the front three times in a rowand then headall the way to the left to re-enter the elf village.
Talk to the elf here and you’ll get the Accursed Flame Gem from the artifact chest. It doesn’t have any uses, so your choice here doesn’t really matter.
There’sanother sectionto this dungeon, but youcannot access it until you leave and return. To leave, simplyhead all the way to the right, taking no detours.
Return To The Forest Of Spirits
Once you’re back in the forest,head directly to the left until you reach the misty screen again. This time, you won’t be led to the village automatically.
This misty forest acts quite like the forests that turn you around in The Legend of Zelda - you’ll need to follow specific directions.
From thescreen that transitions from clear to misty,take the following directions:
On this screen you’ll fight anotherCockatrice- the fight is functionally identical to the one from earlier.
After beating the Cockatrice, you havetwo artifactsto pick up.
Arectaris
A greatsword with high power and a boost to holy damage.
Elven Bow
A fantastic bow with a three-hit combo and very high attack.
