Jotunheim Palace Overview
There are two final dungeons in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth - to get to Jotunheim Palace and Ending B, simplyend Chapter 8 by running out of Periods. You’ll be called to Valhalla as per usual, but this time it’s for Ragnarok, not a Sacred Phase.
Compared to many other dungeons in the game, it’s very simple, though it does have a very tough optional boss to face.
100,000
None
105,000
Opens the fight with Guard Reinforce - counter with Sap Guard if you have it. Will then cast Might Reinforce and then spamming very powerful attacks, both single-target and party-wide. You should have enough power to defeat it in the first two turns by this point.
22,000
4,200
There are multiple varieties of Vanir in this dungeon, and none of them are particularly remarkable. They’re all quite easy to defeat.
10,000
Poison
3,500
Has the potential to be dangerous with high-damage spells, but will fall easily to a Poison Blow attack.
Getting The Daisy Fire
As soon as you step foot in this dungeon, there is no leaving- it is the final battle.
As you are no longer on the surface of Midgard, you can now Divine Items anywhere! You should get a nice bunch of Materialize Points from Freya at the beginning of this dungeon, too.
Head to the leftand take the exits to the rear until you reach a chest with a freezing gas trap. Inside, you’ll get theMental Reactionskill book.
Head to the left to find a room withicy, floating platforms. When you stand on them, theydisappear very quickly, so you’ll need to be very quick on your feet to grab theFreeze CheckandFoxglovefrom the chests here.Head to the left from the exit at the very top of the screen, and on the screen with the icy bridge, you’ll find two chests underneath, requiring you to fall to them. They contain anEye of Heavenand anotherFoxglove.
There are quite a fewFoxgloves and Vegetable Seedsin this dungeon, these can be transmutated into very useful items - do so before heading into the final boss!
Whether you fall down in the room with the ice bridge or make your way safely across, movetwo more screens to the leftuntil you reach a room with some fires in it. You caninteract with the colored fires to pick one upand then put it into an empty receptacle.
Pick up the Daisy Fireto get some Event EXP. With that done, it’s time toreturn to the dungeon’s entrance- you must take the top path to the right, being careful not to fall in the room with the icy bridge.
Reaching Bloodbane
Once you’ve reached the entrance, start heading left this time. When you reach thetall room with lots of icy platforms in it, jump up and take the exit on the right. From there, head up the stairs and take two exits to the rear to reach two chests containing aFlare Crystaland aVegetable Seed.
Return two screens and then head all the way to the leftuntil you reach a chest with anotherFlare Crystalinside. From there, take the lower pathuntil you’re back at the tall room with the ice platforms.Take thelower exit to the left this time.
When you reach the room with the stairs going down, beware of theiciclesthat fall from the ceiling. They’ll deal a bit of damage if they hit you. On the next screen, drop down the bottom to find a chest containing aFreeze Check. Press onfurther to the leftto find aScarlet Edgeskill book.
Platform to the top of this room, being wary of the nasty icicle trap at the top that’s very hard to avoid, andcontinue on.
Follow the linear pathuntil you reach an exit to the rear. Take it until you reach a large room withice platforms and iciclesthat fall from the ceiling. The chests on this screen hold aFoxgloveand anEther Scepter.
On this screen, use the floating particle platform trick to reach the exit on the upper right.Follow this path and save- the next room contains a very difficult (and optional) boss.
If you decide that you want to take on the boss, drop to the floor and head to the right.
If you did not acquire theDaisy Flameearlier in the dungeon, Bloodbane will not appear
How To Beat Bloodbane
Bloodbane is an incredibly tough cookie, and one of the hardest fights in the game for the unprepared.
220,000
140,000
The first thing you’ll notice is this boss’smonstrous health pool. If you’re playing on Normal or Easy mode, this might be the hardiest monster you’ve come across so far - you’re in for along fight, so you should have the tools to make it easier on yourself.
Firstly, having a sorcerer withbuffing/debuffing spellsis a great boon in this fight.Sap Guardwill help you drain Bloodbane’s health, andMight Reinforceaccomplishes the same thing when used on your heaviest hitters.
You’ll also want to have plenty of protection. One of Bloodbane’s most threatening attacks is a fire breath that targets the entire party, soprotection against fire damage is a great idea-Stun Checksare accessible and cheap. ensure your team has thebest armorequipped, and set them up withAuto-Item, giving preference to yourbest healing itemsand Union Plumeswhen allocating points to items in the skill menu.Gutsis also great if maxed out, so have everyone equip that.
When he gets low on health,Bloodbane will start being able to attack multiple times per turn, maxing out at three. This is when Guts and automatic Union Plume/Noble Elixirs come in clutch - unless your damage output is monstrous, you’ll need a ton of healing support to get through this fight alive.
Valkyrie’s bow combo is the best in the game for generating magic orbs to recover your CT gauges, and you’ll want to be using lots of support spells and Purify Weird Soul attacks in this fight - consider giving her theElven Bowfrom the Forest of Spirits.
When very low on health, Bloodbane will useGravity Blessing. This is almost assuredly a one-hit wipeout without good Guts luck. This is why that skill is so necessary.
With determination and luck, you’ll eventually come out on top, as long as you have enough healing items and the right skills equipped. After beating Bloodbane, you’ll be presented with a chest containingDemon Sword “Levantine”- this is easily the best sword in the main game, so give it to Valkyrie or someone else if you prefer her using bows.
How To Use The Flames Of Purgatory
From Bloodbane’s room, head back to the exit you took to the rear that led to the snowy bridge. You’ll be back in the room with the staircase heading up.Take this path now, heading up three screens of stairs and continuing on until you reachanother tall room with icy platforms in it.
Head up the platforms and enter the next room, which has a platforming challenge in it.
With that done, continue on to the right and follow this linear path, picking up theNoble Elixiralong the way.
At the end, you’ll reach a brazier with theFlames of Purgatoryin it. Pick it up here and then quickly move to the right - you have a limited time to reach the room with the large ice block in it.
Don’t attempt to avoid fighting the Vanir on the way, jumping over them takes more time and effort than you’re allotted. The timer will pause during battles. Stop moving as soon as you enter a new room and swing your sword to start these fights with advantage - if you just keep running, you’re more likely to get surprised.
You’ll have just enough time tomove three screens to the right- you should notice a very large, bright new exit. This is the room that used to have a very large ice crystal in it, and the Flames of Purgatory have melted it.Don’t stick around too long, though, as the Flame can go out on this screen and the crystal will come back.
Head to the rear to continue on.
Reaching Surt
Head across the bridge to the rear and open the chest here to get aFoxglove, and then in the next room, another chest containing aVegetable Seed. Use the ice platforms toreach the top of the room and take the exit to the left.
On the next large screen, you’ll find a chest containing aFlare Crystal, and a fight with a Mithril Golem defending the path forward. You’ll find aVegetable Seedand aNoble Elixiron the next large screen, along with annoying icicles that will likely interfere with your platforming - justcontinue on this linear path, taking the exits to the front.
Eventually, you’ll reach asave point. This is the final save point before the end of the game.Head right to confront Surt.
How To Beat Surt
Surt is backed up by two Vanir, but you should know by now that they’re no threats.
20,217
300,000
210,000
Despite his massive health pool, Surt actually isn’t that tough to beat. Bloodbane provided a far grander threat, so if you managed that fight, you’ll have it easy here.
Surt, as a fire god, will use lots offire attacks, so havingprotection against fire damage(Stun Checks are good) will be great for making this battle go smoothly. With these, surviving even Surt’s best fire attack, Ifrit Caress, will be a cakewalk.
Open the battle with Might Reinforce and Spell Reinforce- these buffs will add considerably to your damage output, shortening this fight. Usemulti-target spellsto begin with, to get rid of the Vanir while still targeting Surt with your melee attackers.
Once he’s on his own, Surt is relatively easy pickings. As long as you haveGutsand some goodAuto Itemsetups equipped, you should have a very easy time erasing this boss. It might take a long time, but just keep the barrage up!
