Mariohas had a lot of abilities over the years. Some good and some not so good. But all eye-catching and iconic in their own way. With so many different power-up mushrooms already created, it’s hard to imagine what other forms Mario can take in the future. So, why not get some inspiration from everyday objects and help Mario on his adventures?

In the many games Mario has powered up in, he’s already been a bee, a Koopa, and a cat. But why stop at enemies and wildlife when Mario can be things like a typewriter, a shield, or maybe even a coffee machine. So, here are our top ten objects that should be Mario’s next mushroom power-up ability.

10Coffee Machine

Small espresso for Mario? Sometimes, even this plumber needs a caffeine boost. And the easiest way to make an express order is by becoming a coffee machine. For this hypothetical power-up, Mario will transform and gain access to bitter health boosts and quick speed boosts. No need to wait in line or pay ten coins. Just become the machine and get your coffee on the go.

However, Mario shouldn’t have too many of these coffee-flavored ‘shrooms, or else he’ll end up with an over-caffeinated headache that will hinder rather than help him.

9Boombox

Did you know that Mario loves dancing? He dances inSuper Mario Odysseyandeven had his own Dance Dance Revolution gameback in the GameCube era. But you can’t have any dancing without music so, for this power-up, Mario will bring the tunes by transforming into a boombox.

With this power, you’re able to finally blast your enemies away to the beat of Delfino Plaza. Or maybe stomp and combo Koopas to the chorus of Jump Up Superstar. The possibilities for music and attacks are endless when you’re the life of the party.

8Typewriter

You heard of keyboard smashing, but have you heard of typewriter dashing? With the typewriter power-up, Mario could use the power of words to get through the stage. This ability can work as an attack, where Mario hurls typewriter keys at his enemies, or as a speed boost, where the faster Mario types, the faster he moves.

Maybe it could even be a transformation power where, depending on which words gets chosen, the enemy will turn into said word. Plus, this ability might help you become better at typing. We knew that all those educational Mario games would help us someday!

7Key

Before you ask, no, Mario will be not turning into Luigi with this ability. Instead, he’ll be turning into a key. Any locked door that stands in this plumber’s way will quickly be unlocked using this mushroom power-up. By turning into a key, Mario can traverse and get through restricted areas without having to backtrack and search aimlessly for the necessary items.

And, like the pesky rabbits that often hid things from you in other games, this ability will allow Mario to run faster. However, to make this ability more balanced, you should only be able to unlock and run in key form. No regular attacking after you consumed this ‘shroom.

6Light Bulb

Time to turn on the lights. Although Mario already has an enlightening power-up called the Light Box, which can illuminate dark spaces and stun enemies, what if we could make Mario look more light bulb-y and powerful?Like Kirby’s Mouthful Mode.

With the light bulb ability, Mario can brighten areas and attack enemies with electricity. The only downside will be his decreased speed, as being a Mouthful Kirby-like light bulb means you have to waddle, not run. But the tradeoff means stunning your enemies with your silly, Mario bulb looks.

5Shield

The best offense often stems from a strong defense. Which is why Mario should ditch the Fire Flowers and become a shield. Although Mario has been able to protect himself via shell inPaper Marioand with the Shell Mario power-up, those abilities don’t look as cool as being an actual shield.

Shield Mario will allow our mustached hero to walk through any sort of danger. Fire, electricity, Poison Mushrooms. He’ll be immune to all. Of course, having invincibility can make the gameplay boring, which is why the shield ability should incorporate some good oldBreath of the Wildweapon durability. Too many strikes and Mario will revert to his old form.

4Chibi-Robo

Mario has already had several robots, called Minis, made after his likeness in the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. But what about a power-up that makes Mario into an actual robot? Specifically, what if Mario’s newest mushroom could transform him into a Chibi-Robo Mario?

As a robot, or Chibi-Robo, Mario will be in charge of Mushroom Kingdom’s cleanliness. Dirt on the ground? Nothing a toothbrush wipe can fix. Need to get somewhere far away? Just use Mario’s chord like a hookshot. The only downside to this power-up will be having to charge after a certain number of steps. But, every good game needs a fun challenge.

3Pot

Time to get cooking! As a red and mustached pot, Mario will be able to simmer and stir his way to the end goal. Taking inspiration from Kirby’s Final Smash inSuper Smash Brothers Brawl, this power will let Mario grab or absorb enemies into his pot form and cook them to perfection.

The more enemy ingredients he gathers, the better the damage and the higher chance an item will pop out of the pot when the cooking is done. Not only will victory be sweet, but it will taste good too.

2Vacuum

Again, Mario will not be turning into Luigi with this ability. Instead, this power-up will turn Mario into a vacuum. If you remember the Vacuum Shroom from Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, that nasty fungus led to Bowser inhaling Toads, items, and even the Mario brothers into his stomach. This mushroom will not do that. Instead, this vacuum will be used for the greater good.

Like Kirby’s ability to inhale and spit out objects, Mario’s vacuum form will allow him to suck things in and then projectile launch them out. It will be a handy way of taking out enemies, and, as long as this ‘shroom wasn’t given to him by someone named Fawful, Mario will be in total control.

1Paintbrush

Although Mario hasn’t had any luck with paintbrushes thanks to Bowser Jr., perhaps the curse can finally be broken if Mario himself becomes a paintbrush. With the paintbrush power-up, Mario can doodle his way to victory.

Inspired by Bowser Jr.’s brush and the weapons from theSplatoon series, Mario will be able to create portals and transport himself to different locations as well as splash destructive paint onto his enemies. Maybe Mario can even summon the shadow version of himself and, instead of causing oil-related problems and pollution, he can use his doppelganger to help him out. Much like Luigi’s Gooigi.
