While Affection is aninvisible Stat,it is a rather crucial one, as itcan dictate who joins your party, what happens in specific scenes, and who is deemed Lloyd’s"Soulmate" by the end of the journey. Toraisea member’sAffection, you will have toseek outthe manySkitsfound throughout the world andmake certain decisions in key momentsof your adventure.

Affection Guide

As already mentioned,Affectionis aninvisible Statthatgradually moves up and down throughout your journeydepending onspecific choices you make, influencing what each party member thinks of you. While thisdoesn’t affect gameplay much, the one area where it becomescrucialisrecruiting party members, specifically, havingKratos rejoin your party.Affectionalso impactswhether or not Sheena joins your partywhen you arrivein Luin orwaits until a bit later when you reach theAsgard Human Ranch.

Additionally,at the startof your journey,Colettewill have+500 Affectiontoward Lloyd from the jump, whileeveryone else will have an Affection rating of zero. You can alsobring your Affection rating over to New Game Plusbypurchasingthe “Affection” option at theGrade Shopforx10 Grade. This willcopy all party members' Affectionover to yourNG+ save, allowing you to continue where you left off.

Sheena Affection

To getSheenatojoin your party in Luin, shemust have enough Affectionto be placed in yourtop three. When youfirst meet her and save herfrom the debris, she willautomatically receive +180 Affectiontoward Lloyd. This will determine if she joins your party or not at this moment. If+180 Affectionsurpasses anyone in your top three, she willjoinon the spot.If not,she will run off but eventuallyjoin your party laterin the story.

Kratos Affection

Kratos,on the other hand, is a bit trickier. He willleave your party during the game’s storyandcan only be recruited at the very endof the game when you are inFlanoir. While Affection didn’t use to play a part in getting him back in your party in the original GameCube version, it was added as a mandatory prerequisite in all later versions, including this Remaster. Youmust accumulate enough Affection with him when he’s in your partyto get him back. Then you will have tofollow specific steps when you are in Flanoir.

Whilestaying at the hotelin Flanoir, three people will knock on your doorat night. If youignore all three, you will begreeted by Kratos at your window, wherehe will then join your party. If hisAffection is not high enough, you willnot be able to turn away the third guestat your door. However,be warned, havingKratos rejoin your partywill causeZelos to leave permanently…

To get Kratos on your side before he departs, simply pick the more cynical answers to things and constantly side with him over Zelos. Building his Affection isn’t too difficult once you find out his personality and what he resonates with response-wise.

Skits

Overall,Affectioniscrucial in the game’s early goingand becomes something you can choose to focus on if you wish the more you progress. Toinfluencea character’sAffection, you will have tofind Skitsthatrandomly appearin theOverworld and Dungeons.Skits areshort interactionsbetween specific party members that have youselect a response.Your response willdirectly influence your party member’s Affection, having them gain Affection when answering correctly.

Whilethey won’t lose any Affection if you answer incorrectly,Skits arenon-repeatable,meaning if youmiss out on gaining Affection from a Skit, you cannot retry the same Skituntil your New Game Plus playthrough. The table below displays how much Affection is earned by each party member when you answer a Skit correctly!

The last noteworthy thing aboutAffectionwe’d like to point out has to deal with theFortune Tellerlocated inTriet. Here, you canfind out who is currently your"Soulmate," also known asthe character with the most Affectiontoward Lloyd. Whilethe Fortune Teller will never outright tell youwho your Soulmate is,she will give obvious hints at who it can be,allowing you todecipher their response to figure out who it is.Luckily for you,you can find all clues below and who they reference!- Please note that this is theFortune Teller’s responsewhen you select"I dunno" as a response to her question.

Hint

Colette

“She is close to you and is always thinking of you. Her feelings for you are like a delicate flower…”

Genis

“He is always making fun of you, but he really looks up to you…”

“She watches over you, sometimes stern and sometimes gentle…”

Sheena

“She’s a little rough, but that’s because she’s embarrassed to show her feelings…”

Zelos

“He’s always joking around, but he has high expectations for you…”

Regal

“He lives his life punishing himself. He thinks that you may be able to heal his loneliness and regret…”

Presea

She has mature, lonely eyes and a sad heart that feels like some part of it is empty…"

Kratos

“Although seemingly stolid, he is trying to guide you and show you the way…”

These are not the full quotes, but just a snippet of the most crucial parts that give away who your current Soulmate is when selecting the “I dunno” answer at the Fortune Teller. Just look for any of these lines in their response to find out who you might be meeting in Flanoir!
