You may be simply wondering how to win and what is required to compete; on the other hand, you may have already gotten involved in raiding, but aren’t sure what anEX Raidis. No matter what brought you here, this guide will help you to get a good understanding aboutthe different types of raid battles, what it takes to compete in them, and how to win.
What Are Raid Battles?
When you happen upon a Pokemon gym, you may notice or receive a notification thatthere is a raid battle happening nearby. This is the main way of finding raids. However, you can alsobe invited to a raid by a friend, even if you are not at your friend’s location.
At the raid location, there will be apowerful, even sometimes rare Pokemon that is guarding the gym. The goal of these events is for you and the trainers who join you to defeat this creature. However, it will be much more difficult than a traditional gym battle.
Raid battles are separated by difficulty,tiers one-three, five, and Mega Raids. They increase in difficulty as they go up, and will require more people and stronger Pokemon to defeat. Once you defeat them, you will havea chance to catch the Pokemonand will receive a number of item prizes to add to your inventory.
How To Compete
In order to compete in any raid battle, you will need aRaid Pass. These passes are garnered specifically for certain circumstances.Traditional raid passeswill grant access to tier 1-5 battles, however, you’re able to only have one of these at a time and can only collect one per day. They can be earned by spinning a photo disc at gyms.
Once your traditional Raid Pass is gone, you may be able to purchase anin-game premium battle passthat will allow you to unlock special rewards in Go Battle League and access tiers 1-5. The nice thing about these is thatyou can hold more than one at a time— the downside is that they are apaid feature.
When you are joining a friend at a gym you aren’t physically at, you will need aRemote Raid Passto join them.

EX Raids
Specific gyms at certain times will require you to compete in specialized raids calledEX Raidsusing anEX Raid Pass. These happen when you have recently defeated a raid boss at a gym where one of these specialized raids will take place.
You can have agreater chanceof getting a pass for one of these raids by competing in more raid battles at a variety of different gyms and by earning high-level gym badges.
How To Win
Similar to a regular gym battle,you’ll pick six Pokemonthat you believe are best suited to defeat the boss. Your teammates will also pick six of their own.
Be sure to arrange the team inthe best orderfor defeating the boss. This means that your Pokemon will need to be of atypethat you know will doeffective damageto the boss, as well as Pokemon that are able to handle damage through its subsequent health pool.
ensure you have enoughhealing potionsandrevivesstocked up to keep your team in the fight, and dodge when you can by swiping left and right during the boss’s attacks.
Before you fight, make sure you count on winning. By that we mean, make sure that you haveenough berriesof your choice to catch the Pokemon when you’re faced with the opportunity to catch them.
