There aren’t many more details on the second season just yet, beyond the assumption that it’ll adapt Part 2, but showrunner Craig Mazin and executive producer Neil Druckmann shared some thoughts with Variety on the renewal.
Druckmann said, “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you!”
Meanwhile, showrunner Craig Mazin had this to say, “I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey. The audience has given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.”
Over on Twitter,Druckmann retweeted the announcement from HBO’s account saying, “Part II —> HBO”, giving credence to the idea that we’ll be seeing the storyline of the second game adapted for the second season. That may sound like the obvious answerand something that shouldn’t need to be confirmed, but considering there’s a large time gap between the two games, it’s either going to mean a bit of waiting for actors to look older or some recasts.
