What is Oshi no Ko about?
Oshi no Ko, created by author Aka Akasaka and illustrator Mengo Yokoyari, is a seinen manga that explores the dark side of the glamorous idol industry alongside themes of reincarnation and ambition.
The story follows Gorou, a doctor who becomes a devoted fan of the idol Ai Hoshino. On the night of Ai’s childbirth, a tragic twist occurs — Gorou is murdered by an obsessive fan. However, the story doesn’t end there.
In a surprising turn of events, Gorou is reborn as Aqua, one of Ai’s twin sons, retaining his memories from his past life. Unbeknownst to him, his twin sister Ruby is also a reincarnation of Ai’s other fan, Sarina.
The manga began serialization in Weekly Young Jump magazine in April 2020 and has since garnered critical acclaim. Its success led to an anime adaptation by Doga Kobo that aired its first season in 2023, with a second season in July 2024.
