The Deathstalker is a fierce and unrelenting Kemono, using its agile attacks to overwhelm you. If you want to prevail, you’ll need to take every opportunity to prepare. Below, we’ll take a look at each of the Deathstalker’s weaknesses, the best equipment to use against it, and strategies for the fight.
Deathstalker - Strengths And Weaknesses
The Deathstalker is aWater attributeKemono that will use a variety ofphysical and Water-based attacks. It takes themost damage on its head and tail, with Fire attribute weapons dealing the most damage.Poison also works wellagainst the Deathstalker, but the other ailments are either heavily resisted or flat-out negated.
Be sure to bring theStake and Crate Karakurito this fight, as they will awaken to theChain Trap Fusion Karakuri. This device places a trap on the ground that, when a Kemono walks over it, activates andtraps the beast in place. This Karakuri is perfect for the Deathstalker, enabling you tostop its assault and gain back control. Keep in mind, however, that the Deathstalker will be able to escape more easily with each use of the Chain Trap, meaning itseffectiveness decreases as you use it.
The Deathstalker will use its ice to createfrozen armor partsthat provide a bit of extra protection. However, these armor pieces are actuallymore fragile than the rest of its body, meaning they willbreak off after just a few attacks. Target these spots to stagger the Kemono for a second and continue your assault.
Best Equipment To Fight Deathstalker
The best armor set to use for this fight is theBandit set, crafted usingIcetusk materials. This set provides good Water attribute resistance, good normal defense for its level, and theFreezing Recovery skillthat allows you to morequickly recover from the Frozen ailment. Upgrading this armor to the Kemono-path will also enable theOne Stroke: Fury skill, which works exceptionally well against the Deathstalker thanks to its fragile frozen armor that it reapplies throughout the hunt.
Additionally, on the full Kemono-path, the chest armor unlocks the skillResurrection, which willnegate an attack when you’re out of health. This can be very helpful for avoiding the Deathstalker’s high-damage attacks.
Although the Deathstalker is weakest to Fire damage, its weakness rating is only three stars. Anequally strong physical weaponmay perform as well or better, depending on the weapon’s stats and skills. This is a tough fight, souse the weapon type you are most comfortable with.
Deathstalker - Fight Breakdown And Moves
The Deathstalker will use a lot of ice-based attacks throughout this fight. Getting hit by these will inflict theFrozen ailment, which, when the bar is full, will cause yourstamina to refill more slowly, making dodging subsequent attacks much more difficult. There are various skills, like theBandit armor’s Freezing Recovery, that can help get around this, but it’s best to avoid getting hit in the first place.
The Deathstalker can create awall of ice to jump off, dashing to the area justbehind you. Do your best to dodge out of the way, or set up aSpring Karakuriwhen the Deathstalker makes the ice wall to avoid this attack.
The Deathstalker willalways try to flank you, positioning itself in your blind spot and leaping from unseen locations. Use thetarget lock buttonto always keep the Kemono in your sights.
Using its claws, the Deathstalker can create acascading wave of ice crystalsthat advance forward, dealing damage in the area. Additionally, the Deathstalker may unleash abreath of mist, reducing visibility andincreasing the power of its next ice-based attack.
Finding an opportunity to attack the Deathstalker can be difficult, but one will present itself when the Kemono performs itstriple claw attack. The Deathstalker will attack the area to its front, leaving itsside and back vulnerablefor a short duration. Take advantage of situations like this when you may.
When the Deathstalker howls, get ready to dodge. This howl indicates that the Kemono will swiftlydash through you, dealing damage as it moves. This attack will then berepeated a second time, so remain on your guard. After both dashes, you may have a chance to get some damage in.
After the Deathstalker has taken enough damage, the frozen trees on its back will grow, and a white mist will envelop its back, indicating the Kemono is nowenraged. While enraged, the Deathstalker willattack more fiercely, and some of itsattacks will be empowered, dealing more damage or adding additional moves.
As it enrages, the Deathstalker willengulf the area with ice. Use aSpring or Glider Karakurito evacuate the area, but remain close by to follow up on the Deathstalker’slengthy recovery time. Sometimes, the Deathstalker may perform amassive attack when enraged, blasting the area with ice. In this case, get far away to avoid this dangerous attack.
The Deathstalker’sflanking dash is powered up when enraged. Now, this attack can be executedfour times in a row, finishing with a pounce. When the Deathstalker howls, drop everything and prepare to dodge at least four dash attacks.
