Despite its powerful attacks, the Gritdog has several weaknesses that will make themselves apparent as you fight it. Below, we’ll take a look at these weaknesses, the best equipment to use to fight it, and some tips and tricks for victory.
Gritdog - Strengths And Weaknesses
The Gritdog is anEarth attribute Kemono, meaning its elemental attacks will deal damage with this attribute. Conversely, it takesincreased damage from Wind and Wood attacks, and takes themost damage on its headwith Slash and Lunge-type weapons.
Hunter Arm weak points will appear near its hindlegs, indicating that you can grapple onto these spots to generate Karakuri Thread and knock the Kemono down.
Best Equipment To Fight Gritdog
Due to its Earth attribute, it’s best touse armor that has high Earth resistance. However, for the first time you fight the Gritdog, your options in this category will be limited. Instead, theBasara (Kingtusk) armor set has high defense, and can be combined with the easy-to-craftOcean Wave setfor overall good defense and no negative Earth defense. For repeat fights, the Gritdog’s own armor set provides high Earth resistance.
For your weapon craftsomething in the Ragetail line, as these will haveWood attribute damage, which the Gritdog is weakest to. In general, equip thehighest-damage weapon of the type you are most familiar with, and you won’t go wrong.
Gritdog - Fight Breakdown And Moves
The Gritdog uses acombination of brute force attacks and elemental creationsto overwhelm you with high damage. Typically, itsattacks are slow, relying on power over speed. This means that there areseveral counterattack opportunitiesbetween each of its heavy hitters.
Mainly, the Gritdog will attack byslamming its belly onto the ground, either by jumping into the air first or creatingwaves of crystalsafter. When you see the Gritdog either jump into the air or stand on its back legs, it’s best toget away from its belly. By narrowly avoiding these attacks, you canput yourself in a position to attackthe Kemono as its recovering from its body slam.
The Gritdog will use ashoulder tacklemove in which it charges forward, dealing damage as it moves. However, at the end of this attack, the Gritdog willcollapse to the ground, making an opening for a counterattack. Additionally, the Gritdog has two attacks that it will use twice in a row, thedouble tail swipeand thedouble claw swipe. Watch for these attacks from theback and front of the Kemono, respectively.
When enraged, theGritdog’s tail spikes will grow in size and glow red, and a red “mask” will appear around its face. When enraged, the Gritdog’sattacks become more powerful, and it will use several new moves incorporating its elemental abilities.
Several of the Gritdog’s enraged attacks involvecovering the nearby area with magnetic sand, which it then uses topull you towards itselfwhile preparing a deadly attack. The most dangerous of these is itsbelly drum attack, in which the Gritdog sits up and startsslamming its belly while the magnetic sand constantly draws you closer. The only way to escape this attack is if you have aSpring Karakuri nearbyto launch you to safety. Otherwise, you may just have to eat the damage and hope you survive.
Luckily, you can awaken to theElemental Lantern Karakuriduring this fight, whichreduces the damage of elemental attackswhile it is active. This device is imperative for surviving the Gritdog’s harder-to-avoid attacks, and is created using aCrate, Glider, and Crate.
Throughout its enraged phase, the Gritdog will create several objects that resemble your own Karakuri out of its sand. When the Gritdog creates asand bomb, it willbelly-flop onto it, causing it to explode andincreasing the area of effect of the attack. However, the Kemono will bestunned for a moment after this attack, allowing you to counter.
Additionally, the Gritdog can create asand bulwark wall, which it will slam into, sendingshockwaves of crystals in all directions. Move away from this attack to avoid it, then prepare to dive back in with a Spring Karakuri.
