Ciri’s time in Velen was as eventful as everything else in her life. She had already made an impression on the men of Crow’s Perch during a boar hunt. Their celebratory feast ends when Ciri challenges the Baron himself to a race. His black horse is her prize, with her sword on the line.

Like the other flashbacks inThe Witcher 3, this part of Ciri’s story is short and action-packed. You will have to guide her along a race on horseback, ensuring that she outpaces the Baron as they tear through Velen. If you are new to riding, this guide might be helpful.

Starting Ciri’s Story: The Race

This quest begins automatically duringFamily Matters.As promised, the Baron tells Geralt more of Ciri’s brief stay when the witcher returns aftermeeting Voytek the Fisherman.The Baron will begin telling the story, sending you into a cutscene mid-quest.

While short, thisquest cannot be avoidedonce you start the conversation.

It begins with a celebration after a hunt. You will have to choosehow much Ciri tells of her pastand herattitude toward the menthrough several choices. They willnot affect the outcomeof the quest.

Racing The Baron

The race will follow the conversation, once the bets are placed. It is similar to the game’s other races, with the only difference being that youride a random horse, not Roach. In this instance, the playing field is even.

Watch the map

The quest marker shows theshortest route to the objective,not the racetrack. You will need tofollow the solid yellow lineinstead of the dotted one to stay on course. You maymiss checkpointsotherwise.

Manage your stamina

Your horse will not be able to gallop if its stamina is depleted. You will need to ensure that it will have enough tostay ahead of the Baron.Broadly speaking, you will needless than two “bars” of staminato complete the race at a gallop meaning that you do not have to manage it too carefully.

Block the Baron

This is hardly sporting and is difficult to execute successfully. Byriding into the middle of the track,you might block the Baron’s way. He willpush you along,giving you time to regenerate your stamina.
