TheMount Ordeals Extreme Trialis a long and demanding encounter that will test your endurance and patience. Still, you’ve already bestedRubicanteonce to get here and can do it again with a little bit of knowledge, practice, and luck. If this is your first Extreme Trial, you have your work cut out for you. If you’ve done some in the past, you should be able to tackle this with a bit of effort and the proper Party.

Mount Ordeals Extreme Overview

While you may want to giveRubicantehis comeuppance immediately, you must meet a few requirements before tackling theMount Ordeals Extreme Trial. You can find that information and more in the section below!

Requirements

If you meet the above prerequisites, you’re able to then head toOld Sharlayan.Once here, make your way to theWandering Minstrel(X:12.7, Y:14.3) and speak with him. Recount the tales of fighting Rubicante in the “Desires Untold” quest to unlock the Extreme Trials version of the encounter. With this unlocked, you can now access it viaParty Finderor tackle it with apre-made party.

Mount Ordeals Extreme Waymarks

Assuming you’ve done any endgame activity in Final Fantasy 14 before, you know how crucial setting upLight PartiesandClock Positionsare to your group’s success, as it will give each member a safety net to fall back on throughout the course of the encounter. However, if you are new to this, you can learn more about both in the sections below!

Light Parties

Splitting your group intoLight Partiesconsists of makingtwo groupswithone Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, and Ranged DPS,allowing you to overcome various mechanics in the encounter. For example, suppose there are two Stack Markers present. In that case, you will almost always split off into your assigned Light Parties and have the group’s Healer patch everyone up. Stacking four players on top of one another will help mitigate the overall damage applied to everyone.

Clock Positions

Clock Positionsare crucial to your overall success as well and will make or break a party, especially when it comes to Party Finder. Like every endgame encounter, you will be assigned a Clock Position andmust remember it throughoutthe battle, so you cansafely retreat to it at key momentsduring the fight.

Thecardinal directions(North, South, East, and West) will be made up of yourTanks and Healers, with theTankstaking theNorth and South Pointsand theHealerstaking theEast and Westones. Theintercardinal directions(Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest) belong to theMelee DPSand Ranged DPSJobs. TheNortheast and Northwest Pointswill be assigned to yourRanged DPS,while yourMelee DPS Jobswill cover theSoutheast and Southwest Points.

Mount Ordeals Extreme: Phase 1

Thefirst Phaseof the encounter hasseveral mechanicsfor you to familiarize yourself with, with theOrdeals of Purgationbeing the most crucial one to wrap your head around, as you will see several more iterations of it throughout the battle. This Phase is longbut not nearly as demanding as some of the later ones, so if you can get down where you need to be and how to read some of Rubicante’s actions, you should be golden.

Inferno

As with most Extreme Trials, Mount Ordeals has Rubicante open up with araid-wideattack, which in this case is known asInferno.Simplyshield beforethe mechanic goes outand mitigateto overcome this mechanic.

Ordeals Of Purgation: Parts One And Two

Next up is a mechanic that will consistently evolve and reappear in the encounter, and that’s theOrdeals of Purgation. All stages of this mechanic will havethree circles, one red, one purple, and then another red,all withlines connecting to either a blue or red symbol. From here, you will seearrows pointing in a direction on the aforementioned circles. This will allow you tomap out where the lines will end up after the circles rotate,so you can move to a safe position to avoid wiping.

Part oneof the Ordeals of Purgation will havearrows on both red circles, one controlling the lines in the center of the arena and the other controlling the red and blue shapes on the outer ring. Your objective here is towork out where the only complete line connects one of the shapes to the centerof the arena. Once you have that mapped out, quickly ascertain the shape’s color. If it isblue,acone-shaped AoEwill emit from it, so you simply have tomove to the side of it.If the shape isred, however, it will cause acleave AoE on half the arena, meaning you mustposition yourself on the opposite side of the arenato avoid taking damage.

The Warrior of Light summoning in other Warriors for assistance in the Storm’s Crown Trial in Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker

Part twoof this mechanic featurestwo orbs in the middlethat will travel downseparate linesto a shape, having you try to work out where you need to stand in relation to where the outer red circle will rotate to. However, this is much easier to solve, as itwill always lead to two red shapes, and all you have to do toresolvethis mechanic is tomove behind the point of the “V” shape in the centerof the arena that’s made by the two intersecting lines. Be sure to move to themiddle ringwhen doing so to avoid any damage.

Arch Inferno

Before this next mechanic begins, you will want to pair up in your light party groups, with the Main Tank standing at the A position. After Rubicante casts Shattering Heat on the Main Tank, they will quickly join their group to take on the Arch Inferno mechanic.

Arch Inferno makes the middle of the arena a hazard, so avoid it at all costs, and also spawns in circle AoEs at either the one and three positions or the two and four positions. This means that one light party needs to be on the east side of the arena, and another needs to be on the west side of the stage. The circle AoEs will then begin to explode and work their way around the arena, and both groups will have to rotate clockwise to avoid them.

Setting up Light Parties in the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial, which has a full party of eight split into two groups that consist of one Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, and Ranged DPS in Final Fantasy 14

As you begin rotating around the arena, you will get two of three possible mechanics you will need to resolve on top of avoiding the big circle AoEs, which we will outline below:

After you make it past one of the two possible mechanics outlined above, Rubicante will castConflagration, which sends anextensive line AoEthrough the center of the arena, from thenorth to the south end.To avoid taking damage, each Light Partyshouldposition themselves in front of the AoEif possible, which will beone of the intercardinal positionsanddepends on where the circle AoEs started at the beginningof the mechanic. From here, you will have toresolve one of the other mechanics outlined above, which will then move into the next mechanic.

Setting up the Clock Positions in the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial. This consists of spreading out the Jobs in marked areas found in the cardinal and intercardinal directions, allowing you to get the most out of each role in Final Fantasy 14

Radial Flagration

As Arch Inferno begins to end, Rubicante will begin castingRadial Flagration, which targets all cardinal and intercardinal directions. Toresolvethis, simplyhead to your assigned Clock Positionfrom the beginning of the encounter.

Ordeals Of Purgation: Parts Three And Four

The finale of the first phase is more sets of Ordeals of Purgation, both of which are resolved differently than before. So, let’s get into how to solve them.

Part threeof Ordeals of Purgation will featureall blue iconson the outside edge withtwo flame orbsin the middle, meaning you will gettwo cone AoEsand must work out how to dodge them. The simplest way to resolve this mechanic is to remember thatthesetwo cones will always be right next to one another or 90 degrees away from one another. To solve this, if you gettwo cones next to one another, you will have tomove to the side of the conesto evade the incoming damage. If they are90 degrees away from one another, thesafe spot will be between the two cones. The best way to tell which one will be which isif you get two straight lines, then they will be the90-degree one,and if you getone of the angled lines, they will beright next to each other.

This image showcases the arena and boss of the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial, having Rubicante standing near the back of the arena, letting you see the enormous drop that surrounds the arena, along with the trees and rocks in the background in Final Fantasy 14

Part fourof Ordeals of Purgation hasall red symbolson the outside, meaning you will have to avoidtwo cleave AoEs covering half the arena, leavingonly an eighth of the arena safe.Theonly ring that rotatesin this section will be thepurple one in the middle,so focus on which direction the ring will shift andsee where the connected lines will be.For example, if astraight line connects to the northmostsection of the arena andone at the southeast end, thesafe spotwill benear the southwestportion of the arena. Remember that the cleave only covers the half of the arena the line is on, so find the area that is opposite of both lines.

Mount Ordeals Extreme: Phase 2

With the long-winded first phase out of the way, it’s time to focus on the next one, which is one long-ish mechanic. In this phase,Rubicantewill beuntargettable, and you will instead have to deal withsix Addspromptly before he casts “Rubicante’s Power,” araid-wide enragethat will wipe the entire Party. You can learn how to deal with each Add below!

Rubicante’s Power

As covered above, phase two has you square off againstsix Addsinstead of Rubicante. There will bethree Adds near the topof the arena,a large one in the middle, and thentwo near the bottom.Thelarge Add in the center will be your primary target, but let’s go over what each of them does and how to resolve their mechanics in the section below!

All of themechanics above will repeat themselvesuntil the corresponding Add(s)are killed,so we recommendtaking them out in the following order:

The Inferno Raid-wide action from Rubicante in Final Fantasy 14’s Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial

If youeliminate them allbefore Rubicante enrages,he will be targetable again and willinstantly cast Blazing Rapture. This is araid-wide attack, soshield and mitigate as needed. All players will receive adebuff about halfway throughRubicante casting Blazing Rapture, which essentially boils down tono one will be at max health unless they heal or shield after the raid-widegoes off, so make sure tohave the Healers top everyone up after.

Mount Ordeals Extreme: Phase 3

Phase threeis anotherlong-windedone withlots of new mechanics,so buckle up for this part of the encounter as it isarguably the most complex portionof the entire battle. You can find out how to resolve every mechanic in the sections below!

Flamespire Brand

Flamespire Brandkicks off thethird phase, and we recommendpairing up into four pairsbefore the mechanic even starts and position yourselves in the following manner:

Once you are in the following groups and Flamespire kicks off, everyone will receive debuffsrandomly.Four of the same role(All DPSorAll Tanks + Healers) will receiveFlare Markers, one memberof theopposite rolewill receive aStack Marker, andafter the Flare and Stack go off, everyonewill receiveSpread Markers.

The Radial Flagration Mechanic in the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial, having Rubicante send out Cone-shaped AoEs at the Clock Positions of each player in Final Fantasy 14

After everyone receives their Markers, Rubicante will castFlamerake, aspinning circle in the centerof the arena witharrows pointing in four directions. When this stops spinning, pay attention to where the arrows land, as it will befollowed up with an AoE that covers the length of the arena in each directionthey are pointing. Move to asafe space beside the AoEto avoid taking damage. After this AoE goes off, whoever received theFlare Markerswill need togo out, while whichever role group received theStack Markerwill have tomeet in the middleof the map.

Next, more line AoEs will appear, anddepending on what was cast with the firstFlamerakewill determine which areas are now safe. If,at first, thecardinal directions were unsafe, theywill now be the safeareas and vice versa. After this AoE goes off, groups with theFlare AoEwill have tomove out, while the ones with theStack Markercan meet safely in themiddleagain.

Lastly, theouter edges of the stagewill now be targeted with theline AoEsand the Bpread Markersare finally about to pop. To resolve this mechanic, the group that had theFlare AoEswill need toinch their way inward slightlyto avoid the new AoE while trying not to clip with other players. Thegroup that met up in the center, however, will need tomove slightly out and away fromeach other to avoid stacking on one another to resolve this mechanic safely.

Flamespire Brand: Inferno

Following Flamespire Brand will be anotherraid-wide Inferno, but it will hit the party viaSpread Markersdue toRubicantebeing in hisevolvedstate (one wing out). Toresolvethis mechanic, simplymove to your assigned Clock Positions.

Scalding Signal And Scalding Ring

Immediately following the Inferno raid-wide will either beScalding SignalorScalding Ring. Both are resolved bystaying on your Clock Positionsbut will require you toeither move inward or outward. You can find which is which below!

Sweeping Immolation

Sweeping Immolationis quite possibly the most complex mechanic in Rubicante’s repertoire and is likely the thing tripping most people up. The best way to telegraph what’s coming is tolook at his wingand see if he hasthree small starson itorone large one. With that information available, you can learn the following things:

However, beforetheSpread Markers or the Stack Marker appears,Rubicante will perform awide cleave AoEthatcovers half of the arena, which will then befollowed upwith theline AoEs from the previous section. This, as a result, only leaves four small sections available for youto stand on, which makes resolving the Spread Markers especially difficult.

The third phase of the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial, having Rubicante sprout a single bat-like wing on the right side of his body, while emitting an ominous purple flame around himself in Final Fantasy 14

If you’re fortunate enough to get theStack Markers, choose one of the safe areas and collapse on itto resolve the mechanic. If it is theSpread Markers, however, you will have tofind a method to fit two Party Members in each of the safe spots, which can be tricky.

For this, you caneither have pre-made spots for everyoneorcan use a popular method whereeveryone rotates counterclockwisefrom their original Clock Positionduring the line AoE phase, andwhoever is on the safe side stayswhileeveryone else then safely travels in a straight lineahead of them. Make sure theTanks and Melee DPS are in the front, theHealers and Ranged DPS are in the backof their respective spot, and you are golden.

Final-Fantasy-14-Rubicante-Flamerake-3

This is the trickiest aspect of this mechanic and encounter, so whichever method works best for you and your group is the one you should tackle. The latter is preferred, however, as you canquickly discern if you are in the safearea, andif you aren’t,all you have to do issimply move straight aheadto fix that problem.

Dualfire

After Sweeping Immolation, Rubicante willtarget both TankswithDualfire, which has him perform a broad cleave AoE attack on both. Toresolvethis mechanic, one Tankheads to theOne Waymarkandthe otherto theTwo Waymark, whileeveryoneelse headssouthto avoid the AoE.

Ordeals Of Purgitation: Parts Five And Six

Next up is thefinal wave of new Ordeals of Purgationmechanics. Let’s get into what’s different about them without wasting any time.

Part fiveof Ordeals of Purgation hasalternating blue and red symbolsoutside the arena andone linein the middle. Thecenter ring and the middle ringwill be the onesrotating, sofigure out which way they are spinningandascertain where the line will connectafter they rotate. If it lands on ablue symbol, head to theside of it to avoid the cone AoE,and if the symbol isred, head to thearea of the stage opposite of it to avoid the enormous cleave AoEthat covers half the stage.

Part sixof Ordeals of Purgation has thesame alternating blue and red symbolson the outside, but withonly the middle purple ring rotatingthis time and withtwo lines.Thiswill always target one blue and one red symbol,so to resolve this mechanic, you need tohead to the side of the blue symbol and opposite the redone to avoid getting hit by the cone and cleave AoE.

After this mechanic resolves, Rubicante will perform araid-wide Inferno.Shield and mitigate through it as you did the others.

Mount Ordeals Extreme: Phase 4

You’ve made it to thefinal phaseof the Mount Ordeals Extreme Trial. While this isone new mechanichere, the good news is thateverything else is something you have already dealt withand know how to resolve.

Flamespire Claw

Before Rubicante castsFlamespire Claw,we suggestspreading out a bit like in the images aboveso you canquickly identify your numberfor this mechanic as it isLimit Cut(joy!). This means thatdots will be placed over everyone’s head, with theBlue Dotsrepresentingeven numbersandRed Dotsmarkingodd numbers. For Flamespire Claw, these mark the order in which Rubicante will cleave you,and youcannot get cleaved more than once,so rotation is crucial here.

For this, we strongly urgeall Blue Dotsto go to theleft sideof the arena andall Red Dotsto theright side. Then,Number Onewill headnorth, whileNumber Twowill headsouth. Before the first cleave goes off,two players will be tethered.HaveNumber Seven and Number Eight take the tether, asif you get cleaved while tethered, you’re toast. However, whoever is tethered will also receive stacks. If thatstack reaches five, Rubicante enrages, and theparty is wiped.

To avoid enrage, after Number One and Number Two are cleaved, they will pick up the tether, then pass it on to Number Three and Number Four after they are cleaved, and so forth. After Number Eight gets cleaved, the tether will be removed, and the mechanic will be complete! From here on out, you will be tackling mechanics you already did, which we will lay out below.

Repeated Mechanics

Inferno: Enrage

Lastly, if you survive the above mechanics, Rubicante will castInferno, but this time it will be hisenrage. If this goes off, it’s a party wipe, and you will have to start over, so give it all you got to finish him off here!
