As you slowly progress in the main story ofReturnal, you can go through six unique biomes and fight different hostiles. Since it’s a Roguelite game, you have to start all over again on a specific biome if you’re defeated. For example, you’ll always start in Overgrown Ruins if you’re defeated in the first three biomes.

Apart from the main story, you may also play a special mode known as the Tower Of Sisyphus. You can see the entrance to this mode near the crashed airship in both Overgrown Ruins and Echoing Ruins. Although, it might be a while until you can get to the area if you’ve just started playing.

How To Get To Tower Of Sisyphus

When you spawn near the crashed airship for the first time or after being defeated during your run, you’ll be able to see two ways on the mini-map.These are marked by rectangular cyan-colored doorways, but one of them has a circle on top of them. This is the door that’ll lead you to the Tower Of Sisyphus.

Although, this entrance will be on a high platform and your jump won’t be enough to get there. You’ll see a yellow light at the top of the platform, which is the place where the Icarian Grapnel gets attached to. Essentially, you need this attachment if you want Selene to be able to get to the tower.

Returnal Grappling To Tower Of Sisyphus

Icarian Grapnel is apermanent upgrade to Selene’s suit that can beunlocked after defeating Ixion. This boss can be found in the Crimson Wastes biome, and you’ll have to beat Phrike in Overgrown Ruins to get to the area.

Once you grapple to the top and get to the entrance, you can scan the Xenoglyph beside it and enter the main door. Here, you’ll see a yellow spherical Translocator that will take you to the tower, but it has a cost. Going through this portal has the same effect that you have when you’re defeated in a run.

You’ll lose all the items in your loadout that aren’t essential. So, it’s important to not go to this area in the middle of a run since everything gets reset. Moreover, if your health bar isn’t full, it won’t get recharged as you’re going to the tower.

When you get to the tower for the first time, you’ll find one ofSelene’s bodies on the ground with an audio tape telling you the general mechanic. Keep going straight and enter the next doorway where you’ll see another Translocator. This will start your journey in the endless Tower Of Sisyphus.

Tower Of Sisyphus Walkthrough

The world inside theTower of Sisyphus is divided into different phases, and each phase is divided into 20 rooms. Every single room in this tower has a Translocator that takes you to the next room after you defeat all the enemies or fulfill certain requirements. You’ll largely encounter three kinds of rooms here:

The rooms where an enemy wave spawns have a special kind of Translocator. If you defeat all the enemies quickly enough, these Translocators will have a yellow aura, as shown above. When you use the teleporter with a yellow aura, you’ll get bonus points for speed, which can range depending on how fast you cleared it.

After a certain period, this aura will turn back to blue and you don’t get any bonus for using a blue Translocator. Once you get to room 20, you’ll see a blue spherical Translocator that willtake you to a circular battlefield where the exclusive boss of the tower, Algos, will spawn.

How To Defeat Algos

Algos is theonly boss you’ll find every time you reach room 20 in a certain phase of the Tower of Sisyphus, but it gets different upgrades as you progress in the phases. The boss has a clear spot of vulnerability, which is the singular eye in the middle of its head. You need to shoot at this eye until the boss loses all its health.

As you get to the boss in further phases, it will get multipliers for its health bar. This means that you have to deplete the health bar one time for the first phase, twice for the second phase, and so on. Every time you get rid of a health bar, the boss will get aggressive and start using new moves while the old moves get upgraded.
