Opportunities to step in and make a difference in the world abound inThe Witcher 3.These chances can appear unexpectedly and out of nowhere, like Death by Fire. This quest will happen when Geralt passes by and will give you a short window to decide the fate of an elf and a pack of bandits.

Witcher neutrality is a shield that Geralt has used as an excuse to avoid some of the messier conflicts in his past. With just a handful of bandits around, it is up to you to decide if he will be using it to get out of this situation.
Starting Death By Fire
Geralt will encounter a group of bandits gathered around a burning house to thenortheast of the Hanged Man’s Tree.A cutscene will start immediately, commencing the quest. Geralt will be told thatan elf has been trapped inside the burning house,with the bandits waiting for her to die.
You will need tochoose between interveningor deciding if it is none of your business,leaving her to die.If you choose to ignore her plight,Geralt will leave, ending the quest.
Saving The Elf
If you choose to save the elf, you will need todefeat the banditsandfree the elf from her home.UsingAardon the crates and barrels barricading the door will destroy the obstruction and allow the elf to escape.
Try tofree the elf quickly.She will arm herself with a bow andhelp you by shooting the bandits from a distance, making the fight much easier.
Once the bandits have been defeated, she willthank you for saving her lifeand gives you the location of her savings as a reward before leaving, ending the quest.
Her treasure is in awooden logon thesoutheast corner of her house.Unfortunately, it is a humble 20 orens. It’s not a large sum, though the thought certainly counts. It will be illuminated through your Witcher senses.
