A soldier’s equipment is incredibly valuable. They have their weapons, their armor, and any personal belongings that they can cram into their pockets. These things don’t matter much once they die in battle, and it would be a shame to just leave them out to rot.

That’s why some people scavenge battlefields for such belongings to sell for a tidy sum, just like the people Geralt protects inThe Witcher 3quest Bitter Harvest. You will need to defend the people scavenging for valuables from the monsters scavenging for food. These necrophages do not differentiate between the living and the dead when they are hungry.
How To Start Bitter Harvest
This quest starts when Geralt passes through the battlefield north ofHanged Man’s Tree,where he first enters Velen. Several men are being attacked by ghouls. If Geralt helps fend them off, a man namedAlbin Hartwill call out to the witcher to ask for help.
You will get a waypoint to this quest by startingFake Papers,a nearby quest that is affected by how well you perform in this one.
He promises to reward Geralt forprotecting his workersas they strip the battlefield of useful loot. Your work will beginas soon as you agree.
This quest suggests being atlevel nine,higher than the surrounding area. You may want toleave it for laterif you are struggling.
Defending The Scavengers From The Scavengers
The workers will be attacked byfour waves of necrophages.They willrush the workersand must be intercepted by Geralt before they canstart killing the men.
Necrophages arevulnerable to fire damage. Of course,Necrophage Oil is particularly effective against them.
The majority of the enemies in this quest are ghouls. They arrive in groups and will beeline straight toward the workers unless you attack them first, drawing their attention. You will need tokeep an eye on the minimapand the workers to make sure that none have gotten through.
Later on, arotfiend will join the attack.This enemy istougher than a ghouland willexplode when near death.You shouldfocus on stopping this enemybefore it gets too close to the workers. Its explosion cankill multiple workers.
Both Albin and the workers arepoor fighters.They willdie almost instantlyif they are drawn into combat.
At the end of the battle, Albin willpay you 50 orensand will throw in aperformance bonus,depending on how many workers survived the battle.
If Albin was killed, you will receive15 orensand willfail Fake Papers.
