Since you’re running a shop, you’ll need to manage a few key business elements, including your budget, research and development, andReputation! This guide will tell you everything you need to knowabout that last aspect.

What Is Reputation?

Reputation is a game mechanic in Potion Craft that increases or decreases with every customer you serve. It tells you what kind of store you’re running;is this a shady shop for assassins to buy their poisons, or a local business helping farmers grow better crops?

Difference Between Reputation And Popularity

One important note is todifferentiate between your shop’s Reputation and your shop’s Popularity.Think of your Reputation as a sliding moral scale, from good to evil. By contrast, your Popularity denotes whether the kind of people who come to your shop think you are good and reliable.

In real life, we think of these things as very closely related (and they are) but the game distinguishes between them becauseyour Popularity should ideally keep going up(on average) over the course of the game, whileyour Reputation may swing from one side to the otherand doesn’t indicate your progression through the game.

Managing Your Reputation

Your Reputation will change depending on which customers you choose to serve. Many gamers play automatically, fulfilling orders as they come in and only skimming the descriptions. However, in Potion Craft, that will have real consequences!

There are basicallythree kinds of quests, with varying consequences for completing or denying them:

Reputation Goes Down

No Change To Reputation

Your Reputationcan only be as high as +100 or as low as -100.

Effects Of Reputation

Your Reputation determines the kinds of people who visit your shopand, subsequently, the types of quests you’ll receive.

The closer to +100 Reputation you are, the more Good Quests you’ll receive. The closer to -100 Reputation you are, the more Bad Quests you’ll receive. The kinds of quests you get will affect things like which potions are requested most frequently.

Permanently Banning Customers

Occasionally, after denying a request once and having that customer return, you may ask them never to come back to your store.

Be careful when deciding about whether you’ll permanently ban them, because it means that it may make it more difficult to change your reputation in the future.
