The Leviathan Axe was initially wielded by Kratos’s second wife Faye, but after her passing, the weapon is used by Kratos himself. InGod of War: Ragnarokwe use this powerful weapon again, and with that comes the ability to upgrade it, give it new attachments, and enchant it with powerful runic attacks.

Light runic attacks come out fast and tend not to do all that much damage, but are definitely an improvement on a normal light and even heavy attack. Heavy runic attacks are the attacks that will do the most damage to an enemy but tend to have a longer wind-up which can leave you vulnerable.
Light Runic Attacks
The five light runic attacks involve some of the quickest attacks that Kratos can use.These will usually be fast-hitting ranged techniques that will inflict elemental damage to one or multiple enemies, and here’s how to unlock them.
Hel’s Touch
For theHel’s Touchrunic attack, you want to head over toAlfeimand then intoThe Burrows, which can be found in theForbidden Sands.
You are able to get to this area after completingThe Reckoningmission, whichboosts the ability of the chisel, which can then unlock the Forbidden Sands.
Simply move through The Burrows, killing all the enemies, and you will come to a large open area where there is aLegendary chestup on a high ledge.
Hel’s Touch releases a quick burst of energy that canstagger and stun enemiesout of their attacks. Fully upgrading this runic attack will give itmaximum stunand will also allow for afollow-up burst.
Njord’s Tempest
Njord’s Tempestcan be found inSvartalfheimby heading to theAlthnjof’s rig. To get the Legendary chest, simply move thered hook to its highest pointand then use it toswing to the rightand then headtowards the left, where you will be able to launch Kratos through the air.
Whilst he is airborne, there will be a prompt for you tosmash through the stone wall, and the Legendary chest will be to the right of the room.
This light runic attack has Kratosrapidly spinning, which will hit surrounding enemies and is high in damage. Upgrading Njord’s Tempest willincrease the number of spinsand will also add asmall whirlwind effect.
Skadi’s Edge
Skadi’s Edgeis found at the very start ofAlfeiminThe Strond. Simply headeast from the Mystic Gateand look for asmall gap to squeeze throughfrom there. Continue forward until you find a ledge to the left that you may drop down to where you will find the Legendary chest afterbreaking a few potsthat are in your way.
Skadi’s Edge is atrackable axe throwthat will ricochet between the selected targets, doinggood damage and frost effects. Further upgrades willincrease the number of targetsyou can select, will extend the aiming period, and cause abigger Frost impact.
Winter’s Bite
This runic attack is unlocked afterbeating the Huntressduring theSurviving Fimbulwintermission.
Winter’s Bitewill have Kratos build up amass of ice around the Leviathan Axewhich he will then swing at an enemy, doing damage and frost. Upgrading this light runic attack willincrease the damage and knockback force.
Wrath Of The Frost Ancient
This runic attack can be found inVanaheimin theSouthern Wilds.
you may find this Legendary chest whilst completingThe Reckoningmission withFreyaor by coming back later. The chest is in anabandoned areato thenorth of the mystic gatewhere there is asmall opening next to some tree roots.Heading through will then bring you to the Legendary chest.
Wrath of the Frost Ancientreleases apowerful beamthat is high in damage and inflicts Frost on enemies. Upgrading this willincrease the duration of the beamand heavily improve its Frost and damage.
Heavy Runic Attacks
The five heavy runic attacks involve some of the most consistently powerful attacks that Kratos can use.These will usually be hard-hitting techniques that provoke explosions or AoE attacks, and here’s how to unlock them.
Breath of Thamur
Breath of Thamuris immensely high in damage and creates amassive area-of-effectthat hits all enemies in its large area.
This powerful, heavy runic attack is obtained by collecting28 of Odin’s ravensand opening the Legendary chest inNiflheimthat is unlocked after getting to this part in the Favour.
Fog Of Fimbulwinter
Fog Of Fimbulwintercan be found in Svartalfheim in the Myrkr Tunnels. The Legendary chest with this heavy runic attack isblocked by some red flowers, simplyburn them with the sigil arrowand theBlades of Chaos.
This runic attack creates amassive ice wave freezing enemiesand inflicting them with Frost. Upgrading willincrease its duration and damaging effects.
Ivaldi’s Anvil
Ivaldi’s Anvilcan be found inMidgardwithin TheDerelict Outpost. Simply progress through the area,climbing gradually higherusing the mechanisms that allow Kratos to swing with hisBlades of Chaos.
At thehighest point of the Derelict Outpost, there is a Legendary chest which will give you the heavy runic attack.
Ivaldi’s Anvil has Kratos jumping into the air creating a staggeringarea-of-effectas he lands thatdeals Frost to all the surrounding enemies. Upgrading this heavy runic attack will greatlyincrease the radiusof the attack and improve the damage and Frost.
Leviathan’s Roar
The Leviathan’s Roarcan be found inVanaheim,northwest of Freyr’s Camp, where you may have already foughttwo Dreki. There is awooden wallwhich is climbable in the swampy area and will lead you to the Legendary chest.
This attack has Kratosthrowing out his Leviathan Axe, which returns smashing into Kratos’sshield, creating adevastating explosion. Upgrading this heavy runic attack will give you more opportunities to attack after the initial explosion.
Mists Of Helheim
To make it easier to find the Legendary chest that hasMists of Helheim, it is recommended to start theConscience For The Deadfavour as it makes it easier to follow the correct path.
To start this favour, simply head toVanaheimand go to theCliffside Ruins,where you will find aspectral spiritby the shore who will give you the side quest.
You will then need todestroy the red flowersthat are stopping the chain from falling above where this spectral spirit is. Climbing the chain will bring you to a seal which you can break with the chisel. This thenopens up a new path down the river to the south.
Head all the way through the river and pastGoddess Fallsand move through the cave at the end of this path, which will then lead out to apreviously blocked part of the shorewhere you started theConscience For The Dead Favour. Below is a chest blocked by thegolden rocks,destroy them using the sigil arrowsand open the Legendary chest to get the heavy runic attack.
Mists of Helheim creates alarge area-of-effect attackwhich leaves a small mist inflicting Frost on the enemies close to it. Upgrading this heavy runic attack will increase the damage and size of the mist.
