EAhas confirmed steps are currently being taken to removeMadden 23’s CPR touchdown celebration. The statement and eventual action from the studio comes a week after Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of a game and needed to be resuscitated and rushed to a nearby medical facility.

EA has updated Madden players on its intentions to remove the celebration from the game via a short statement toCBS Sports(thanks,VGC). “EA Sports is taking steps to remove the celebration from Madden NFL 23 via an update in the coming days,” a spokesperson for the studio confirmed. That hopefully means the celebration will be patched out of the game by the end of the week, preventing people from using it in poor taste.

Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling a rival player in the Bills games against the Cincinnati Bengals a little over a week ago. After CPR was performed on Hamlin and he was taken to hospital, the game was postponed and has since been canceled. That naturally causes issues when it comes to deciding the upcoming NFL playoffs, but owners have come together and approved an alternative plan moving forward.

As for the celebration, as you likely already guessed since it can be used in Madden 23, it’s pretty common. Odds are it will be gone for good once removed in the coming days, but that doesn’t mean it won’t still be used in the real game. Pittsburgh Steelers players are currently under fire for using it during an actual game this past weekend, just a week after CPR was performed on Hamlin to quite literally bring him back from the dead.

Madden has been in video game headlines for another reason over the holidays. The game’s servers went down on December 28 and when they came back online, a number of players discovered their franchise cloud saves had disappeared. A few days later,EA revealed only 40 percent of those saves could be retrieved, meaning players have since needed to start their Madden careers from scratch.
