Masters Madrid is Riot Games’ first international LAN for the 2024 VCT season.
Eight teams, comprising the top two teams from each of the four international league kickoff tournaments, are participating in the event to earn Championship Points.
These points determine which teams advance to the Valorant World Championship later this year.
Here’s everything you need to know about the event.
What is Masters Madrid?
Masters Madrid is a prestigious Valorant tournament held at the Madrid Arena in Madrid, Spain.
This indoor venue, located in the city’s fairgrounds in the Casa de Campo area, boasts a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators.
Tournament format
Thetournament has two main components: the newly introduced Swiss stage and playoff bracket.
The Swiss stage consists of three rounds and narrows the initial eight teams to the top four.
To progress from the Swiss Stage, teams must secure two match wins before accumulating two losses. Each match in this stage is a best-of-three.
Before the tournament, teams are grouped into four matches. Winners of their respective Kickoff events face off against all the second-place finishers.
Notably, no teams from the same region are matched up in the first round.
Teams that win in the first round advance to the winners’ matches, while the defeated teams drop to the elimination matches.
A random draw between the winners’ and elimination matches determines the final leg of the Swiss stage, with the possibility of teams from the same region competing against each other.
A random draw places the final four teams in a double elimination playoff bracket. The lower bracket final and grand final are best-of-five.
