Akais a unique idle game. You play as a red panda who becomes a retired veteran following the end of a war. But there are no grand welcomes or cheers, Aka is just relieved that they survived the war. Though Aka is relieved, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t haunted by ghosts from the war — whether they be comrades that they couldn’t save or family they had to leave behind.

Aka’s dialogue is simple, but that doesn’t mean that there are no lines that won’t stick to your memory. Help overcome your own grief with these memorable quotes.

9Every Creature Has A Life, Has A Spirit, Has A Name

You were too busy fighting, and you forgot to listen to what the trees had to say!

Aka’s world was once engulfed in war, and when you speak to Xen, they reply to you with hostility. They introduced themselves as the spirit of the forest, which is why they didn’t like Aka at first. Aka carried a katana around, and Xen saw that as a threat to wildlife.

Xen from Aka talking about the unjust use of the forest

Trees might not have the ability to speak, and if they do, they probably speak in a language that can’t be understood by other creatures. But the war, despite it being fought for reasons unknown, isn’t an excuse to ravage the forest into deforestation.

8Well Wishes From The Universe In A Bottle

These days may be hard, but do not give up. We are out there in the universe, cheering for you, and wishing you happiness and peace.

Aka’s route to living peacefully isn’t easy, since they encounter ghosts and graves from the past. It’s reassuring for Aka to see a note like this, from a stranger who wrote it and let it drift to the sea. If it was able to reach your character, it’s definitely a sign from the universe that there are those who wish them well, even if they’re no longer physically around.

These days are no longer as physically taxing for Aka, since the war is over. But it’s good to read little notes of strength once in a while, especially since Aka’s lost a lot of loved ones.

7Nothing’s Fair In War

War is unfair.

Once you discover Misao’s story, you can try multiple times to find the true ending of it through multiple conversations. Misao’s ghosts told a story of a soldier whoran away to save themselves, leaving their wounded friend behind on the battlefield.

It turns out that Misao’s story is a true story, and that Aka was the soldier who left them behind to save themselves. While they sound resentful about being abandoned on the battlefield, they’ve come to conclude that it’s not just Aka’s fault. War is unfair, and choices have to be made.

6Taking Care Of Your Environment Is Self-Care

Taking care of your environment is to take care of yourself.

Ai the sloth is spot on about how cleaning can help you take care of yourself. Aka has been getting rid of traps, clearing grass, and planting crops to make their space livelier and the islands cleaner. This isn’t just a good way for Aka to clean around therapeutically, it also rids the islands of the remnants of war and neglect.

Cleaning doesn’t only clear the physical space in this game, but it also helps clean mental baggage, since it removes negative triggers that are littered around the area. Aka brings about calmness because of idle tasks, and that includes making sure your environment is lovely and livable.

5It’s The Thought That Counts

If someone says nice things to you without really thinking them, it doesn’t matter. It’s the intention that counts.

Ai drops some easy wisdom once more, and a rather optimistic outlook to adopt in a world that was torn apart by war. Perhaps some people say niceties to appear pleasant, even if they don’t really mean it. But does it really matter, if it’s meant to make you feel good?

Ai from Aka talking about how it’s the thought that counts

For some people, truthfulness would be more important than appearing pleasant to others. It would be hard to know whether people really do mean one thing or another anyway, so it might be best if you choose to take things at face value, especially if they’re compliments.

4Be The Change You Wish To See In The World

We have to change ourselves before we can change the world.

Aka’s soldier days are over, and there are no more wars to be fought. They could’ve lived it in any other way, in excitement or in seclusion, yet they’ve chosen to live it by helping others rebuild and by running around, doing various errands. The way Aka chose to live has changed how others interact with them, and even Xen, who was hostile at first, eventually came around to become a friendlier figure.

In short, you don’t have to do big things to change anything. The change you want for the world can start with you, and how you choose to influence your immediate environment.

3Maybe We Shouldn’t Live In A Society

My parents used to say to live in hiding is to live happily.

Ever had thoughts about leaving your nine-to-five and just heading for the mountains to never touch the internet ever again? Probably not, because there are many games you’re still looking forward to playing, but you might be able to relate to the desire of being isolated for a while.

Boop from Aka talking about living in hiding

It gives you the freedom to do what you want, without others judging you or interfering with the way you’re living. Maybe all Boop is trying to say is that living a lowkey life, one that’s practically away from judgmental eyes is bound to be a happy life.

2Failing To Live Is Worse Than Death

Don’t fear death, fear not living.

Lenno was a prisoner of war, and it is implied they died in solitude as the forgotten one, and that their cries for help didn’t reach anybody but lone wolves. They’ve grown angry, compassionate, and even enlightened during their time in solitude.

Lenno thinks thatdeath isn’t something to fear, but being unable to live life is something that people should definitely be afraid of. This might be the case for them, since they lived in confinement and were robbed of their freedom, which means they most likely weren’t able to live the life they wanted to live.

1The Disregard For Another’s Soul Is The Root Of Oppression

Certain oppressors forget that we are sensitive souls. Out of their desire to reign or sometimes for their comfort, they put our lives in peril.

As Aka was freeing the imprisoned spirit of Kachina from a curse that bound them to a room, Kachina felt hatred towards the one that cursed them. Aka understands this situation, as they’ve been to war and have seen those who oppress to gain power over others.

Aka talking about oppression in Aka

Some, in desire of a better condition, step on others to get a better foothold in life regardless of its consequences. Kachina’s soul is eventually freed from the curse, bt if you can pick anything up from this encounter, hopefully,it’s to treat others with kindnessand compassion.
