What is Parasyte?
Parasitic aliens invaded Earth, infiltrating humanity by burrowing into the brains of vulnerable targets. These beings took full control of their hosts and could transform into various forms to feed on unsuspecting prey.
The series followed 16-year-old high school student Shinichi Izumi, who was attacked by one of these parasites. It failed to take over his brain and ended up in his right hand instead.
Unable to relocate, the parasite, now named Migi, relied on Shinichi to stay alive. Together, they had to defend themselves from hostile parasites seeking to eradicate this new threat to their species.
The manga series began its publication in 1988 and ran until 1995 in Kodansha’s Morning Open Zokan and Monthly Afternoon magazine. An anime television adaptation titled Parasyte The Maxim aired in Japan from June 18, 2025, to July 30, 2025.
Parasyte The Grey is an original story inspired by Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Parasyte manga, rather than a direct adaptation.
TheNetflixshow is set in Korea, distinguishing it from the original Japanese setting of the anime series and Parasyte Part 1 and 2, the two Japanese live-action movies released in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
The premiere date for the Korean live-action show isApril 5,2024.
