With so many cards to choose from, it’s no surprise that picking the best card of the litter is challenging, but no worries there. There are 17 different grass Pokemon in this set, but ten outliers in the group should have your undivided attention.
10Scyther
At a glance, the Mantis Pokemon, Scyther seems underwhelming. Don’t let the singular move and base 80 HP fool you, though. Its Mach Cut ability is very subtle and powerful.
This card can deal some damage for only one Energy of any type and discard a Special Energy attached to your opponent’s Active Pokemon. Plus, it only has a retreat cost of one, so it can go in and take away something and immediately switch out afterward, allowing for a nice little hit-and-run tactic.
9Bellossom
The Flower Pokemon, Bellsom, only has one attack, and it might be one of the most annoying attacks to face. For one grass Energy and one of any other Energy, Bellossom is capable of using Flower Spin.
By flipping three coins, this attack does 80 damage for each head you get and immediately switches Bellossom out with one of your Benched Pokemon. The attack allows the card to pivot in and out, potentially dealing a massive 240 damage to your enemy’s Active Pokemon. Who knew a dancer had moves like this?
8Yanma
For a basic card with only 70 HP, Yanma has tremendous potential. This Clear Wing Pokemon can deal 70 damage for three Energy attached to it with its Cutting Wind attack, but that’s not the main spotlight for this Pokemon.

This card’s Swoop Across move, which only needs one Energy, deals ten damage for each of your opponent’s Pokemon. With a move like that, you don’t need anything else, as this card can weaken the enemy cards before they’re even out on the field.
7Yanmega
Yanmega, The Ogre Darner Pokemon, brings extraordinary strength to grass types for this set. Yanmega can use Shoot Through for one of any Energy, which allows it to deal 20 damage to an enemy’s Active Pokemon and 20 damage to one of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. Attacking something that isn’t in play is an excellent way of weakening the opponent’s side before they get to act appropriately.
Then this card’s next move, Jet Wing, deals a massive 160 damage to an opponent’s Active Pokemon. The only downside is that Yanmega can’t attack the next turn, but it doesn’t matter if this move is almost guaranteed to take an opponent’s Pokemon out.
6Tangrowth
The Vine Pokemon, Tangrowth, has a beautiful base 150 HP stat. For two Energy, one grass and the other anything else, Tangrowth can use Suctioning Vines that deal 50 damage and heals Tangrowth for 30. This card can use Hammer In for extra grass Energy, which does 130 damage.
This card can deal damage and take damage with little repercussions because of its ability to heal itself. An excellent option for a grass-type deck if you need help deciding what to run.
5Carnivine
Right off the bat, the Bug Catcher Pokemon: Carnivine is annoying. Carnivine can use Festering Saliva for a single grass Energy that poisons and burns an enemy’s Active Pokemon. With two of any Energy, Carnivine can use Bind Down, which deals 40 damage but doesn’t allow the Defending Pokemon to retreat.

With a powerful combination like this, this card can force the opponent’s Active Pokemon to stay in and take continuous damage for minimal effort.
4Calyrex
The King Pokemon Calyrex is excellent support from this set. For two of any Energy, Calyrex can allow you to search for up to two cards and put them in your hand, and it does 30 damage to the enemy Pokemon. For one extra grass Energy, Calyrex can use Bloomshine, which deals 90 damage but also heals 20 damage for each of your Pokemon.
That alone boosts the market value for this Pokemon for any grass-type deck. Which such powerful abilities, it won’t be a surprise to see this Pokemon as a staple.
3Zarude
This Rogue Monkey Pokemon is a dangerous fellow to face. For only one grass Energy, Zarude can switch in the opponent’s Benched Pokemon with their Active Pokemon and deal 20 damage to the new Active Pokemon.
Add this to the card’s Triple Whip attack; by flipping three coins, Zarude deals 70 damage for each head, which can potentially have this Pokemon deal 210 damage to the enemy. With the ability to pick and choose the opponent and deal massive damage, Zarude is an excellent basic card that will have everyone look twice in response to its power.
2Leafeon V
The Verdant Pokemon,Leafeon V, is a significant surprise for this set. For one, this card has a fantastic move in Leaf Guard that does 30 damage to an enemy Pokemon while also reducing damage to itself by 30.

Not only that, but it has a powerful attack in Slashing Strike which only needs two grass Energy and any other Energy to deal a tremendous 180 damage, although it forces Leafeon V not to use the move next turn. However, could you consider it a drawback when Leafeon V can reduce damage?
1Leafeon VSTAR
No one could have guessed how to make this Eeveelution any stronger, but by combining the strength of both Leafeon V’s moves into one,Leafeon VSTARis a force to be reckoned with. This card’s Leaf Guard ability reduces damage by 30 and deals a significant 180 damage back to the enemy Pokemon.
Plus, this card gets a new power with Ivy Star, which allows you to switch in one of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon with their Active Pokemon, allowing you to pick and choose who Leafeon VSTAR takes out.
