While both Wave 1 and 2 featured some fantastic tracks from across the series, like Coconut Mall, that fans have enjoyed the return of. Not everybody believes these to be the best version of these tracks. As Wave 3 brings several returning courses, it seems an appropriate opportunity to review these tracks and see which you should be playing with your friends on the next game night.
8London Loop
One of the many city tracks fromMario Kart Tour, London Loop is a relatively uneventful race through the jolly, old city. Due to being a newer track from the mobile title, there aren’t many changes to London Loop. Instead, it incorporates all three variations into a single lengthy race.
Featuring numerous tight turns, the track overall is simple, with little gimmicks beyond the draw bridge that allows you to perform tricks. Unfortunately, this lack of notable features causes London Loop to stand out as the least engaging track in Wave 3.
7Boo Lake
Boo Lake, similar to the other GBA Mario Kart tracks, has seen quite the face-lift upon joining Wave 3. The spooky vibe of the original is preserved and enhanced through superior visuals. With the addition of an underwater section and numerous trick ramps, the upgrade to Boo Lake is clear from both a visual and gameplay standpoint.
This comes with the underwhelming territory of GBA tracks, as Boo Lake doesn’t feature many obstacles to challenge you during a race. While it looks fantastic, Boo Lake has not evolved since its debut.
6Merry Mountain
Merry Mountain is a relaxing trip through a Christmas-themed race. The atmosphere of the track immediately grants it a cozy feeling, and the simple layout would make it a favorite among newcomers. This does, however, cause Merry Mountain to do very little with any of its concepts.

Mario Kart has featured several snow-mountain tracks across the series, each using its setting to deliver memorable races. Merry Mountain features a large magic train and Christmas village, which see little use beyond background elements.
5Berlin Byways
Continuing Mario Kart Tour’s trend of basing tracks on real-world cities, Berlin Byways is the opening race of the Moon Cup. Featuring a variety of hazards to stand in your way, Berlin Byways isa refreshingly challenging track. Cars will drive alongside you, impeding your path as Thwomps will attempt to crush anybody too close.
Many sharp turns and a changing layout between each lap elevates this to an engaging race to the streets of Berlin. Berlin Byways also features a few alternate paths that may keep you on your toes.
4Rock, Rock Mountain
Returning from Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS is Rock, Rock Mountain. This track holds up well and is a thrilling race across a mountainside. While not the most challenging, the tight turns and dropping boulders add some difficulty that you’ll need to keep in mind.
The many gliding portions of Rock, Rock Mountain also allow those of higher skill levels to take shortcuts, using the air gust caused by the various pipes throughout the track. This is all tied together by a high-energy song that will get the blood pumping during this race.
3Peach Gardens
Since when did Princess Peach have such a fancy Garden? Peach Garden returns from Mario Kart DS and continues to be a treat. The track looks as good as ever, with the charming hedge trimmings of the Mario cast adorning the garden.

The rampaging Chain Chomps not only add a bit of difficulty to Peach Gardens but play into the idea of several guard dogs looking out for their master’s plant. This natural charm and solid layout that changes on the final lap make Peach Gardens a stellar experience in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
2Maple Treeway
One of the more beloved tracks from Mario Kart Wii, Maple Treeway has made its grand return. Maple Treeway remains a gorgeous track to race on as orange-brown leaves surround you while you pass through this forest freeway. The backing music fits too well, giving Maple Treeway a rustic vibe.
The looping paths add to the impeccable track design as it captures the allure of racing across a large tree as you avoid the Wigglers in your way. Every aspect of Maple Treeway comes together to create an expertly designed track.
1Rainbow Road
There have been many tracks with the name Rainbow Road across the series. This incarnation originates from Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS and is a fantastic experience. Being one of a few tracks that are one long race rather than multiple laps, Rainbow Road takes you through the cosmos as you drift along Saturn’s rings, trick over moon craters, and take in the sights of this beautiful setting.
The classic Rainbow Road challenge is evident, requiring all your skills to avoid falling off into space. Rainbow Road remains one of the most magical times you will haveplaying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with friends.
