Sports Storyis the sequel to 2017’s Golf Story on the Switch and delivers all-new sports for your main character to master as you try to solve the mystery behind PureStrike corporation’s hostile takeover of sports. It’s a departure from the first, but a lot of its bones remain the same despite the new additions.

Whether you’re a new player or one who is coming from the original, you’re bound to take some time to test your digital legs and swing out on the various holes placed around the map while avoiding (or not) the various unsavory elements around the field. Which one of these have you done while playing?

7Throw Your Balls At Everything

In the game, you get a lot of different balls and ball types that you can throw from time to time whenever you deem it necessary. Throwing your golf ball for completing challenges is highly situational, but that doesn’t matter if you just want to throw the ball whenever and wherever you want.

Want to throw them in the water?Sure. Want to attempt to hit some NPCs with it? Well, you’re going to have a little harder time doing so. That doesn’t mean trying it out is going to be less fun, and you never know, you might finish a side quest or two with your weapon golf balls used this way. So, go ahead and throw away!

6Wonder Why You Didn’t Become A Pirate Instead

Early in the game, pirates come onto the beach, and everyone just assumes that they’re there to steal oranges from them. So you take up arms and try to shoot their cannonball back at them. You miss terribly, but the pirates both witnessed your golf prowess and your willingness to wield a cannon at them.

Lo and behold, all the mateys want to do is take a nice vacation and legally purchase some oranges to enjoy. They don’t seem so bad, and they even offer you a spot on their crew. Your character considers it but is interrupted. Why? A life of oranges and booty sounds like a pretty good pirate’s life, doesn’t it?

5Grow Frustrated

The aiming of Sports Story is pinpoint accurate. Meaning, that if you’re just a smidgen off, you are going to miss your target. Even if you think the aiming is correct, and you’re good to go, if the gauge doesn’t match up exactly, it’s going to be a miss.It wouldn’t hurt to improve this in a patch.

You can level up your stats and swing of course, but the fact remains that you’re probably going to fail your shots at least some of the time. Patience is going to pay off well in the long run, so don’t give up just yet, and you’ll sink hole-in-ones in no time.

4Run, Run, Running

Gotta go from the hotel to anywhere else? Gotta run. All those “side quests” you have to do? You’re going to have to move your feet. Thematically, it makes sense. You are an athlete in a world run by other athletes doing athletic things.Running should be second nature in this world to you.

But, that doesn’t mean you can’t use other modes of transportation, does it? Maybe give you a golf cart to ride in, or hell, a pair of skates would suffice much more effectively than just your own feet. Either way, you better lace up those shoes if you want to win in the long run.

3Clean Your Balls

Look, it’s a golf heavy game, and if you aren’t familiar with the sport, dirt on your balls can severely affect the distance they’re able to travel. It’s best to grab all your dirty ones and get them all nice and shiny. Yes, we know how it sounds, but it is a part of the gameplay that is beneficial when done.

All over the map, you find dirty balls, andwhen you clean them, you’ll uncover different types of golf balls that do different things. The Crazy Ball, for example, covers a much longer distance than your default one, but the accuracy is lowered.

2Join An Axe Gang

Yep, early on in the game, you have a chance to partake in debauchery and join The Woodsmen,a gang that’s messing up the Rustling Vale areaafter its takeover by rival…golfers? Anyway, the only way you’re able to progress is to find a golden age and meet up with the crew.

So, now that you are brought into the ranks, what nefarious crime do they want you to participate in? None. Instead, they task you with finding the fabled Pristine Wood Chip. What does the chip do? Nothing, its beauty alone makes it highly sought after in the world of Sports Story. After you finish the quest, your short life of crime is over.

1Miss The First Game

Sports Story comes loaded with all new sports for you to try: volleyball, soccer, BMX, tennis, and cricket. It’s a little confusing at first on how this golf prodigy spreads his acumen to other sports, but hey, let’s just roll with it. The game gives you a lot of things to do. So much so, that it can be dizzying at times to consider all the sports there are to master.

While you’re deep into figuring out the mechanics of cricket, it might hit you to return to the roots and remember a simpler time when all you had to worry about was which way the wind was blowing while you were lining up your shots. At least until the zombies show up.
