You’ve played many of your favorite games so many times that you might think you know everything about them. However, there are always new things to learn. It can be shocking to discover new secrets that you never knew about, even if you’ve played the game for over a decade or two.

you may 100 percent many of these titles without discovering most hidden areas, and some secrets aren’t intended but rather parts the developers never even expected you to uncover. Here are some surprising finds.

8Duke Nukem 3D: E1L1 Pipe Bombs

Hollywood Holocaust is probably the most iconic level inDuke Nukem 3D. It’s great to play in both single-player and multiplayer, but if you’ve only played the former you’re likely to have missed this hidden area. Next to the elevator heading to the arcade is a trash can. Jump on it, and press the use button on the wall to uncover a secret area containing Pipe Bombs and Night Vision Goggles.

This is an untagged secret area, meaning you may get 100 percent secrets on the level and still not even be aware this exists. These items aren’t necessary for single-player use, but are a savior in deathmatch. The Pipe Bombs just decimate other players, especially since you can throw them through the wall in the secret apartment room.

7Ninja Gaiden 2: Secret Talisman In Chapter 4

Ninja Gaiden 2is one of thehardest gameson the Xbox 360, especially once you crank the difficulty up to Master Ninja. You’re going to need every bit of help you can get when it comes to supplies. Master Ninja mode makes the items and upgrades at the shop cost as much as a house, so it’s best to pick up supplies straight from chests and dead bodies.

There is one secret chest in Chapter 4 that the developers hid really well. After going through the subway and into the city, you’ll get to a dragon statue save point and must climb a ladder. Once you’re up top, don’t go charging forward, as directly behind you is an upper road leading to a chest. This contains a Talisman of Rebirth, which revives you upon death, and is incredibly handy.

6Banjo-Tooie: Goldfish

Banjo-Tooieis a game filled with secrets, many of which are not needed for 100 percent completion. The mystery of Stop ‘n Swap 2 is still ongoing, but another secret you probably missed is Banjo’s pet goldfish. At the beginning of the game, there’s a boulder near Banjo’s house. When starting, nothing seems odd about it. However, later in the game, you unlock a move called the Bill Drill, which is primarily used for breaking boulders.

Since Spiral Mountain doesn’t have much in it, and you’ve likely forgotten about the starting boulder, you can completely miss this secret. Once you break it open, you’ll rescue Banjo’s pet goldfish. It’ll nearly double your oxygen supply, and you’ll learn how to swim faster.

5Devil May Cry 4: Hidden Items In Mission 5

Unlike Ninja Gaiden, where the game encourages item usage,Devil May Cryis the exact opposite in that you are explicitly penalized for using any healing and damage-based items. Due to this, many will miss a lot of the items placed throughout the game world, and none are better hidden than two in Mission 5. Upon starting the level, don’t go forward. Instead, go all the way back to the grand hall.

On top of the chandelier is a Vital Star L and Holy Water, but getting up there is a challenge. You need to first platform onto two higher ledges, which are easy to fall from. Then you need to Streak towards the platform, perform an Air Hike, then do a Calibur to get on top. Doing this sequence with Max Exceed gives it a little extra distance.

4Silent Hill 2: Eddie’s Room

Early on inSilent Hill 2, you’ll meet Eddie for the first time in the apartment building. Since he’s puking in a toilet, and the encounter isn’t the most pleasant, you’ll likely exit the locale after the cutscene. However, if you re-enter, there’s an easily missable area next to the bathroom.

In it, there are various football posters, graffiti, and even a physical football on the floor. All of this alludes to Eddie’s backstory, and is of key importance when considering what becomes of Eddie later on in the game.

3Resident Evil 4: Homing Mine Darts

This secret inResident Evil 4is only accessible in the GameCube and PS2 versions, as it was fixed in later ports. In the farm area after the initial village ambush, there’s a neat glitch. Head north to a fence, and jump over it as close to the edge as possible towards an elevated ground area. This will allow you to go out of bounds.

From here, head north; in that section, you should find some items on the floor. One of them is Homing Mine Darts, which strangely don’t appear anywhere else in the game. Homing Mine Darts is actually an upgrade once you’ve maxed out the Mine Thrower, but it is fascinating to know that it was originally separate ammunition.

2Metal Gear Solid 2: Get Thermal Goggles Early

Metal Gear Solid 2has aplethora of secrets and hidden details, but one of the more elusive, not discussed elsewhere, is the early item locations. You can find many items in the game in multiple areas. In the Plant chapter, the Thermal Goggles have five separate locations where you can find them, but the earliest one is right under your nose.

Once you take control of Raiden, jump right back into the pool. The Colonel will give you a little tutorial on swimming, but that’s not all. At the very bottom of the pool, towards the right, is the first place you can acquire the Thermal Goggles. This is incredibly useful, especially on harder modes and for collecting dog tags.

1Bloodborne: Cut Content

Like many games,Bloodbornehas cut content, including many bosses still in the game files. You’d think the only way to check these out is by hacking the game, but you’d be dead wrong. You can access these bosses from glyphs in the chalice dungeons, as long as you’re online.

The bosses are functional with AI and everything. It’s incredible you can play this cut content in such an easy manner, and it is very rare in gaming. If you thought you’d done everything in Bloodborne and defeatedall the optional bosses, there’s more work to do.
