Wonder, friendship, challenge, and a hand-drawn black-and-white style are all a part of the extraordinary world ofBlanc. Your time will be spent as the fawn and wolf cub in single-player or as one of these in multiplayer. Blanc is mainly designed with multiplayer in mind, but you’re able to play it by yourself if you wish.

If you’re yearning for more games in the style of Blanc, whether it be the visuals, story, multiplayer aspect, or all three wrapped into a compact package, there are many options to delve into across all the major platforms. Hopefully, these can fill the empty spot Blanc left upon its departure.

9Coffee Talk

Coffee Talkis all about listening to your customer’s conversations as you serve up their orders. Invasive as it may sound, these conversations are shared between the customers and you, the barista. While making the perfect coffee or herbal tea is your job, helping these people out as much as possible is just as important.

The customers of Coffee Talkspecifically come into your shop because it’s the only one open during the late hours of the night, which happens to be the best time to have a long deep discussion about the problems in their lives. Like Blanc, the true importance is being there for others when they’re going through tough times, despite their differences.

8It Takes Two

You won’t get far in Blanc without the two characters working together. Similarly, you won’t get far inIt Takes Twowithout doing the same thing. In It Takes Two, you control either May or Cody, a couple going through a major rough patch in their marriage; where we begin the story with the two deciding a divorce is the only option. Before they can get going with the divorce, May and Cody are transformed into small doll-like figures and must work together to return to their human bodies.

As you travel through the seemingly gigantic house, the pairwill relive the memories that made them fall in love, realizing that their relationship may be fixed if they continue trying and moving onwards.

7Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons

Brothers A Tale of Two Sonsfollows two brothers as they hunt down a cure for their sick father. To get to this so-called “Water of Life,” they need to stick together and, above all else, look after and trust one another to get through the challenges ahead.

Like Blanc, there’s a lot of heartwarming moments shared as the characters continue to spend more and more time together. Both games have a core understanding of how scary going out into the world on your own can be and how you’ll never quite feel ready to do so, But when you’re forced into this position, there is no right way to act, and that’s what Brothers teaches us.

6Unravel

Unravel and Unravel 2 arepuzzle-based platformerswith a silent protagonist. Only the second one has co-op, but both are similar to Blanc in a couple of ways. We won’t spoil the story here as it’s better viewed yourself, but the present idea revolves around family and how important it can be in the darkest times.

Blanc also focuses on a family with the story following two young animals trying to get back to their families. Both games are full of puzzles, with the second Unravel requiring you to use the two playable characters to complete each stage (either by yourself or with a second player).

5Beacon Pines

Beacon Pinesis an ideal game to pick up after Blanc because it’s another short title with cutesy animal protagonists. Much like Blanc, Beacon Pines sets its story around the unwavering friendship of two characters, except instead of a newly formed one between a wolf cub and a fawn, it’s between a fawn (ironically) and a cat.

Your tale begins while exploring a strange warehouse near your home with your trusty friend Rolo. But things are never what they seem in this story, with multiple endings that can only be altered by choosing different options. Your goal is to uncover the mystery of the warehouse and bring your friend back safe.

4Stray

Animals are a popular centerpieceof many recent indie games, withStraybeing no different. You play as an adorable orange cat who quickly becomes a stray in Kowloon, a city filled with robots who love cats just as much as we do. You can even cuddle up with these robots to get the achievement directly linked to this, unlocked once you sit with a robot for an hour of real-life time.

Although becoming a stray after the game’s introduction, our protagonist is first seen hanging around with his other feline friends. Blanc and Stray share the sentiment of finding the route back home under treacherous circumstances.

3Ico

Upon the launch of Ico’s remaster in 2011, a co-op mode was added where one player controls the titular character, and the second player controls the queen’s daughter, Yorda. Ico is imprisoned in a castle due to the fear and superstition surrounding him because of the horns growing from his head, and Yorda lives in this same castle, so the two eventually meet. Your objective from here is to escape the castle.

The first mission is the initial meeting of Ico and Yorda; the two don’t know much about each other but are required to trust to survive. Blanc is akin to this premise, with the leads meeting for the first time in the narrative’s opening.

2Kirby And The Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Landcan also be picked up on the Switch, so you won’t have to move very far after finishing Blanc.Even if you haven’t played a Kirby gameor tend to play other genres, everyone knows at least a little about the character. This time around, Kirby is traveling through a land called The New World, rescuing Waddle Dees and battling all manner of bad guys.

Each of the seven worlds is filled with lush scenery and areas to explore for that 100 percent completion. It may be the most unlike Blanc in terms of story, but it is great to sit down with after a long day. You’ll also get to try out yet another story focusing on helping people.

1Okami

Okamisettles nicelyinto Japanese mythologyand action themes, putting you in control of the goddess Amaterasu, who takes on the form of a large white wolf. The game delves deep intohow this goddess saved the landwith a runtime average of upwards of 30 hours, even for a playthrough where the player completes the main narrative and nothing more. You’ll have bundles of time to traverse the heights of this world and accustom yourself to the mystical story on display.

Okami and Blanc share similar visual styles and animal protagonists, and luckily both are available on the Switch, with the incredible Okami port launched in 2018.
