The color Black in theDigimon Card Gamewas introduced to be a defense-oriented archetype with unique pseudo-removal tools like the De-Digivolve keyword. The color tends to play a slower-paced game compared to other colors, like Red, but with its many Options for removal or to slow down your opponent, Black is the way to go if you want to force your opponent to play your game.

Even though Black has many strongDigimoncards, when it comes to staple cards, Black’s power lies in its Option cards. Their Options, combined with powerful Blocker Digimon like Mekanorimon and Craniamon, make Black the giant unstoppable wall in the Digimon Card Game.

10Iron-Fisted Onslaught

Just like Gaia Force and Cocytus Breath, Black gets their own brand of powerful removal in Iron-Fisted Onslaught. This card allows you to delete all of your opponent’s Digimon with the highest play cost. Black usually has other avenues of removal through other Digimon effects, meaning Iron-Fisted Onslaught is a bit underpowered by today’s standards.

Compared to cards like Gaia Force, there is an argument that Iron-Fisted Onslaught is better since, although situational, it can wipe out your opponent’s entire board.

9Chikurimon (ST-13)

With the rise of the Xros Heart deck, the DigiXros mechanic, andstaple cards like DeathXmon, the Chikurimon found in the RagnaLoardmon Starter deck is essential to any counterplay. Simply playing a Chikurimon from the hand will hinder most of these decks useless until they find a way to destroy it or bounce it back to your hand.

This powerful floodgate is a double-edged sword since its effect applies to both players, so be careful when playing this in tandem with other Black decks that DigiXros like DarkKnightmon.

8Chikurimon (BT-06)

As opposed to the Chikurimon from ST-13, this Chikurimon card is a bomb waiting for your opponent in your Security. Chikurimon, when checked in Security, De-Digivolves one of your opponent’s Digimon. This effect can possibly stop multiple Security checks from happening since they will be attacking with a lower-level Digimon.

A lot of the time, you would want to max out on the Chikurimon to play in your deck to maximize the probability of them appearing in Security. If they don’t end up in Security, they can still be Digivolved onto your Digi Egg since Chikurimon is still considered a Level three Digimon.

7Breath Of The Gods

Breath Of The Gods is one of the best defensive options available for the color Black. Not only does this card give one of your Digimon Reboot, but it also protects it from any DP reduction effects or even bouncing effects like Mega Death.

Even though Breath Of The Gods has an amazing effect to protect your Digimon, its biggest effect is applied when checked in Security. Breath Of The Gods prevents your opponent from attacking you, protecting your Security from more checks.

6Mekanorimon

When speaking about Black as a color, it would be a disservice to not speak on their powerful Blocker cards. Mekanorimon is one of the best ones in the category. With its effect, Mekanorimon can restand after taking a hit and deleting its opponent. This card saw tons of play during Rookie Rush meta with its high 6,000 DP stat line.

Although Blockers have taken a back step in the meta with big removal cards, Mekanorimon is still a great card to include in your deck in a pinch.

5Final Zubagon Punch

Black is known for their slow and defensive plays, but sometimes you need that extra damage or that extra punch. Final Zubagon Punch is the card that everyone should include in their Black decks. This card gives one of your Digimon a DP boost of 3,000. If this boost puts your Digimon over 16,000 DP, that Digimon also gets Blocker, Reboot, and an extra Security Attack.

This is the sword to Black’s mighty shield. Your opponent won’t know what hit them once you drop two Final Zubagon Punch to rip through their Security.

4Ultimate Flare

De-Digivolve is one of the most interesting pieces of removal in the Digimon Card Game. While it doesn’t remove the Digimon altogether, De-Degivolving it slows your opponent down by trashing the top card of their stack.

Ultimate Flare’s effect lets you do that up to three times and afterward, it deletes all of your opponent’s Digimon that cost of three or less. This effect, more often than not, will activate since De-Digivolving three times will most likely leave your opponent with a Rookie, which usually carry play costs of three.

3Chuumon

Memory is the most important resource in the game outside your Security stack. With powerful inheritable effects that can constantly gain your opponent memory, big stacks of Digimon can be quite dangerous. Memory blockers like Chuumon can stop your opponent before they gain all of that memory.

While Chuumon is in the Battle Area, your opponent cannot gain memory outside Tamer effects. Especially when facing decks like Alphamon, who can gain memory even after their turn is over, Chuumon can be one of the best cards in your deck.

2Black Memory Boost!

Just like in the color Red, Black doesn’t tend to be the most consistent deck. Since the archetype’s game plan is mostly to play for the late game, the decks found in Black tend to be slower in nature, especially in the draw department.

This is where Black Memory Boost comes in. A cheap three-cost card that can search for any Black Digimon off the top of your deck can help you find any missing piece that you might need.

1Kongou

When BT9 X-Record was released, Kongou quickly became a staple in most Black decks. Its powerful ability to stall for a turn is indispensable against decks like Armor Rush, which usually revolve their strategy around attacking with smaller Digimon.

Not only can Kongou give you a bit of breathing room while you set up your board, but also prevents your opponent from adding cards to their Security stack. This can stop any Recovery-centric decks or Mastemon, who aims to add cards to their Security stack.
