TheStar Oceanseries has always been made up of party members with eccentric, yet lovable characters that you just want to see make it to the end relatively unscathed. Every party member can potentially be anyone’s favorite, as it all comes down to personality preference and playstyle. Or who has the cutest outfit.

Midas Felgreed faces toward the camera while wearing his steampunk top hat- Star Ocean 6

The Divine Forceis no different, and arguably has the most likable protagonist the series has had in a while with Raymond and his headstrong yet warm personality with a sword swing to match. He is just one of several party members willing to fight for what they believe in, but who ranks first?

10Midas Felgreed

A man with a thirst for knowledge that often goesbeyond the bounds of legality, and possibly ethics, Midas was known for being one of the greatest engineers of the Kingdom of Aucerius before being unceremoniously disgraced by the courts. He doesn’t let this stop his quest for adventure and knowledge though, as he takes it in stride.

He uses magic and is considered to be formidable in the arts of Semiomancy, as he commands great power over the elements. However, this power comes at a considerable cost. Each of his spells takes a significant time to cast, leaving him extremely vulnerable to projectiles and fast melee attacks, and can often have his spells interrupted.

J.J. dons armor similar to earth samurai with a scar on his right eye - Star Ocean 6

9J.J.

J.J. is the Scorpium robotic Samurai from an unknown planet, and not much is known about him even as the game progresses in the story. When you meet him in Raymond’s story, he is trying to protect a village. As you help him out, he understands that there are things that he must learn outside his programming, and decides to travel with the rest of the party to figure these things out.

His fighting style is methodical and precise, using his katana-like sword to both quickly slice his enemies, or hold his position and build up strength into a strong, one-hit attack. The drawback with his fighting style is the lack of range and speed that comes with using a sword like his. Compared to even his other party members who use swords, his range is shorter than average.

Marielle L. Kenny points her gun at a character off screen - Star Ocean 6

8Marielle L. Kenny

If you were a fan of playing as Maria Traydor from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, then Marielle might scratch that itch. She uses laser pistols as her main weapon while implementing short kicks to create space between herself and her enemies. She carries the weight of the Kenny legacy on her shoulders and doesn’t feel as though she can live up to their heroic standards.

Damage-wise, her gun is capable of doing severe damage while her melee moves lack any real power behind them, acting more as moves to get you to the next free area to start shooting again. A lot of opportunity is missed in marrying these two fighting styles together.

7Theo Klemrath

The man with the flaming red hairand a fighting style to match, Theo is only playable if you are playing with Laeticia as the protagonist. He has disgraced the kingdom he was supposed to protect by launching a coup d’etat along with his father. He ends up going with the Princess among the stars as a means to seek redemption for what he’s done.

Theo is a strong fighter with his halberd, and has strong attacks with some projectiles, making him pretty flexible in how you play him. The only issue is, you get him pretty late in the game, and don’t have the same amount of time to become familiar with and level him up the way you would with those you’ve gotten earlier in the game.

6Elena

Elena may be an android, but she has free will and spirit, making her a little closer to human. Unlike the rest of her party members, Elena’sprimary weapon can use four different formsthroughout the game: the sword, the whip, the gun, and the scythe. you’re able to even switch between the four on the fly in battle.

Though she can wield all these types of weapons, it makes her a master of none of them, as per usual for these types of characters. However, she does have Fists of Fury, the iconic move from everyone’s favorite Klausian, Cliff Fitter. That alone evens her playstyle out

5Nina Deforges

Easily the unique party member in the series, let alone the game, Nina is a crucial party member, yet does not directly attack on her own. She’s a healer through and through, providing plenty of AOE heals to cover the whole party. She is an upbeat, if a little naive, young girl who has a goal of curing a deadly disease that took her father away from her.

Her later healing moves start to cause damage to any enemy who is caught within the circle, such as with Tubular Bells. She is also responsible for supporting the others with buffs. Having said all of this, she is weak as far as defense goes, and you can’t rely on her indirect attacks doing a lot of critical damage, but it’s better than not having moves that do damage.

4Laeticia Aucerius

The second protagonist you choose from at the start of the game, Laeticia is a kind yet headstrongPrincess of the Kingdom of Aucerius. All she wants is peace between her kingdom and the Vey’l Empire, no matter the cost. She fights while dual-wielding blades and fast attacks that don’t leave much room for the enemy to counter.

She doesn’t have any magic to fight with, but that doesn’t bear any weight to how she performs on the battlefield. Her only drawback is not having the same strength as other sword-wielding characters, but she more than makes up for that with the flurry of attacks she can perform in the time it takes others to swing their sword once.

3Malkya Trathen

Malkya is a queen. Not just in the badass sense, she is an actual queen from the Trathen tribe, a group of humanoids who have the power to stretch their limbs to incredible lengths. She is talented in both hand-to-hand combat and Semiomancy, having been taught under the tutelage of Midas himself.

She is powerful and versatile while on the field, excelling in both power and range with her melee attacks, and feels like you’re controlling a JRPG version of Dhalsim fromStreet Fighter. You honestly can’t go wrong with putting her into your party. She’s just a sliver slower than others and doesn’t have many faults to speak of.

2Albaird Bergholm

Princess Laeticia’sright-hand knight, Albaird is beyond loyal to his princessand will protect her at all costs. So much so that he lost an arm protecting her as a child, and would gladly do it again if it meant she was safe. This includes protecting her from people who would be a threat, even if they are not.

His weapon of choice, Chakrams, seems at first to not have a lot of potential for high damage, but once you start unlocking the higher tier skills, such as Shotgun Guillotine, you have a monster of a DPS on your hands. He can clear a field with all the AOE attacks he gains, and is also able to summon shadow remnants that can attack alongside his attacks, tripling his combo output.

1Raymond Lawrence

The main protagonist in the game, Raymond is a natural-born leader with a friendly nature and willingness to help those in need, much to the chagrin of his party members. He earns the trust of every ally he meets, but those who mean to cause harm to the people he cares about will meet the end of his broadsword.

Each of his attacks exudes power, with some of those attacks being two-handed swings with his sword. He relies a lot on the power of the D.U.M.A. system he acquires early on in the game. He doesn’t use magic, but that doesn’t matter to him. As long as he has his sword, he can win.
