Merrin, the Nightsister who joins Cal Kestis' crew towards the end ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, has been confirmed as being pansexual in a new novel bridging the gap between Fallen Order andSurvivor. We’re just over two weeks away from the next bit of new Star Wars Jedi content - Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, a novel that tells the story of the Mantis crew years before the events of Jedi: Survivor. With launch being so close, reviews for the novel have started appearing online alongside excerpts from the novel, giving us a brief look into what Cal, Cere, Merrin, and Greez got up to after Fallen Order.Related:Star Wars: Eclipse Will Collapse Under Its Own WeightOne of the recent excerpts has revealed something pretty exciting for Star Wars Jedi fans - Merrin is pansexual. Sam Maggs, the author of Jedi: Battle Scars shared a few reviews on her Twitter and they all highlight that Merrin is a key figure in the novel and that she stars in some pretty steamy scenes with a stormtrooper defector.

One of these scenes was shared in an excerpt from IGN, which describes Merrin going up against a group of stormtroopers and finding herself enamoured with her “lavender neck”, “jutting chin and full lips”, and “eyes as red as the sky over Dathomir’s Rift Valley”, which is clearly intended to be romantic. Reviews for the novel also mention that the novel “fed us horny Star Wars gays”, openly implying the romance becomes is featured throughout the book.

After retweeting the reviews and excerpts,Maggs then shared a tweet from Twitter user merrinstardust excitedly saying, “pansexual merrin is canon! scream it from the rooftops”.Maggs also commented on another post confirming that Merrin is pansexual, saying that it was fine for fans to still ship Cal and Merrin together, as pansexuality means being attracted to someone regardless of gender.

Although this reveal has come as a surprise to some fans who were hoping that Merrin was straight and going to end up with Cal, it’s worth noting that she actually seems to mention another gay relationship in anoptional conversation with her onboard the Mantis in Jedi: Fallen Order. If Cal talks to her while travelling between planets, she can occasionally talk about Ilyana, another Nightsister that she thought she’d be “together” with when she was older.

Reactions to Merrin being pansexual have largely been positive on Twitter but, as you can imagine, some Star Wars fans have reacted negatively to the news (shock) as they wanted Cal to end up with Merrin. Some fans on the Fallen Order Reddit have already said that the novel is now considered non-canon to them because of it.

Beyond the fact that none of us know how the plot between Merrin and this stormtrooper ends, pansexuality means that Merrin couldstillend up with Cal. That’s ignoring the fact that Jedi religion generally forbids romance, as was kind of the whole plot of the prequel trilogy, and that we don’t know how Cal even feels about Merrin. Oh, and they’re fictional characters, that too.
