The third season saw massive changes toHearthstone Battlegrounds. The most notable of them was the addition of the Undead as a new minion type, but it also introduced minions with more than one type for the first time. These minions will usually have abilities that combine features from both their types, making them some of the most versatile minions in Battlegrounds. They are also generally quite good in multi-type builds, since they can fill two roles instead of one.

These dual-type minions will appear in your lobbies whenever one of their relevant classes is present, which means you’ll be seeing them often. This list will help you decide when you should pick them up.
10Felemental
Stats aren’t everything in Battlegrounds, but it will often be the case that the player with the highest stats wins the game. And while Felemental’s buff might seem small, it can be the difference between winning and losing midgame fights.
Its ability works with any build, but it is especially strong when paired with builds of its type. Elementals are already focused around increasing the stats of your future minions, and Demons rely on consuming minions in Bob’s Tavern to gain stats. Felemental helps accelerate both of these strategies.
9Felstomper
Felstomper is a minion that doesn’t really seem to fit with either of its types. Both Beasts and Demons have minions that summon other minions, but they tend to shift away from them in the later game in favor of bigger stats.
The Felstomper will often performbest in Undead builds, but not being an Undead itself, it won’t benefit from their synergies. It’s still a strong minion, but your ability to compete with opposing builds will fall off the longer the game goes on.
8Mecha-Jaraxxus
Mecha-Jaraxxus is one of the most complex cards in Battlegrounds. His Battlecry will give you one of three unique minions: a 5/5 with Windfury, a 1/10 with Taunt, or a 10/1 with Reborn. All three of these minions are Mech/Demon hybrids, and can all be Magnetized onto both Mechs and Demons.

These minions function as decent buffs if you happen to be running either of those minion types in your build, and can also be played on their own. Mecha-Jaraxxus won’t make or break your build, but his versatility makes him a solid option to buy in a wide variety of scenarios.
7Pufferquil
Poisonous is one of the best keywords in Battlegrounds, allowing your minions to punch well above their weight. In the past, the keyword was restricted to Murlocs and a few other, specific minions, but Pufferquil gives Quilboar and Naga access to it as well.
Of course, Pufferquil’s ability is conditional, which means it needs to be used in a particular sort of build, one that can cast a spell on the Pufferquil each turn. Fortunately, both Quilboar and Naga have ways to do that while also building the Pufferquil’s stats, with Blood Gems and Spellcraft. Naga has ways to give the Pufferquil Divine Shield as well, making the minion’s potential even higher.
6Cyborg Drake
Cyborg Drake is unique in Battlegrounds thanks to its ongoing effect. In theory, the minion is at its bestin Mech builds, which have multiple Divine Shields and ways to refresh them. It certainly provides enough attack to make it relevant even in the late game.
The biggest problem with Cyborg Drake at the moment is that high-attack, low-health builds struggle to compete with Undead builds, which do the same thing, but are far stronger since their attack buffs persist on every minion they summon. Both Undead and Cyborg Drake were nerfed recently, so maybe the new balance will allow the Drake to have more success.
5Corpse Refiner
The Corpse Refiner is never going to be the cornerstone of a build, since the whole point of the minion is to sell it. It performs well in any build that includes Deathrattles or Reborn minions, a list that includes the Corpse Refiner’s minion types, Undead, and Pirates, but also Beasts, Demons, and Mechs.
If the Corpse Refiner’s ability is triggered twice, it becomes free, much like the Freedealing Gambler. The Gambler is guaranteed to sell for three gold every time, giving it a higher floor, but the Corpse Refiner has a far higher ceiling.
4Blazing Skyfin
Blazing Skyfin is a rare stat engine you can find early in the game. It’s a powerful play in the first few turns, since even a single Battlecry used on it will give it more stats than the majority of other Tavern Tier two minions. And having multiple types also means it benefits from the effects of more Battlecries.
You can continue scaling the Blazing Skyfin as the game progresses, since it fits neatly into several builds. In theory, Dragon builds with Kalecgos will play many Battlecries, although you’ll need to reach Tavern Tier six for that. You are more likely to play the Skyfin in multi-type builds, which rely on Battlecries for most of their stats, but it really shines in Murloc builds, which at their peak play many Battlecries per turn, all of them triggering the Skyfin’s ability and buffing it with their own.
3Sinrunner Blanchy
Sinrunner Blanchy isn’t a great minion to triple into, since it doesn’t create a build on its own. That is especially true after the nerf to its stats. But Blanchy’s ability is undeniably powerful if you have the right pieces around it. Effectively, it doubles the effects of any buffs you put on it, whether that’s Beasts with their in-combat buffs, or the many methods Undead have for buffing.

The Undead variant has its downsides, since Undead attack buffs will transfer onto the summoned body anyway, making Blanchy almost the same as any other Reborn minion. On the other hand, Blanchy is one of the best cards for multi-type compositions, since they rely so heavily on creating the largest minions they can.
2Greta Gold-Gun
Getting a free Golden minion is basically always good. It’s true that Greta Gold-Gun’s ability doesn’t let you triple into a higher Tier minion, but finding the Golden version of a key minion will often be the difference between placing highly in a lobby and winning it outright.
The list of Naga and Pirates that are good to use this ability on is too long to list, but the most obvious examples are build-fueling engines like Cap’n Hogger and Tidemistress Athissa. You can make them Golden, then use their abilities to buff your board.
1Magmaloc
Magmaloc is a stat-generating machine. There are many different builds in which it can reach well over 100/100 in stats without too much difficulty. Murlocs and Elementals both play a lot of minions in a single turn, but Magmaloc also works great with Pirates or multi-type builds.
It’s really not an especially complicated minion; you play cards, and the Magmaloc grows. But it’s impossible to argue with the sheer number of stats it generates. It was moved up to Tavern Tier five recently, which does seem more fitting for a card of its power level and will slow it down significantly. However, that won’t stop it from being extremely powerful if you can find it soon enough.
