There is no wrong answer when asking where to start with Fire Emblem, but depending on what you are looking for in a game, your path in the series might take you somewhere different, but it will always lead you to a great series with amazing combat and even better characters.

7Fire Emblem Heroes

Although Fire Emblem Heroes is not a full-fledged game in most people’s eyes, it is a great way to start your journey with the series. Fire Emblem Heroes is a free-to-play mobile game that features a unique storyline as well as fan-favorite characters. The gameplay in Heroes is similar to that of a regular Fire Emblem game but on a much smaller scale.

There are many of the same mechanics from other games included in Heroes. Many skills, like the powerful Galeforce, are found in the game, yet in a more condensed and casual-oriented way. This is a great game to begin your journey in the series due to its low barrier of entry and amount of familiar characters you’ll be able to find in other games.

6Fire Emblem Warriors

Another game in the series that has drifted from the tactical turn-based gameplay that Fire Emblem is known for, Warriors is a"Sangokumusou"game, or Musoufor short. Derived from the Japanese name of the Dynasty Warriors games, Fire Emblem Warriors is an action hack-and-slash game, where your goal is to conquer territory while mowing through hundreds of enemies.

Like every other Musou spin-off game, Fire Emblem Warriors uses the formula with the series' huge cast of characters to add a bit of charm from their own games. You’ll be able to play as fan-favorite characters like Marth and Lucina while still enjoying a brand-new story.

5Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright

As the story of Fire Emblem Fates unfolds, you are caught in a roaring conflict between two powerful families; the one who has raised you since you were a small infant, and your biological family. It is up to you to decide which side to take. To better approach this story, Intelligent Systems split the game in two: Birthright and Conquest.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright is the easier of the two, with more units at your disposal and advantageous starting points in battle, whereas Conquest was used to appeal to the more hardcore audience by having you play on the back foot at all times.

4Fire Emblem Awakening

Fire Emblem Awakening is the first game in the series that used the series' support system as a way to expand the stories of the characters even further. By adding support conversations with romance options, outside Genealogy Of The Holy War, Awakening adds an aspect of dating simulators to an otherwise hardcore tactical RPG.

3Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones

The Sacred Stones is the closest to old-school Fire Emblem in the last few years. Although the game can be a bit difficult at times, it can be a great entry point to players that want to experience what the series used to be like.

This game is extremely accessible for new players since it splits the story into two different routes leaving you with a handful of units to progressively level without racking your head thinking about which one will be good or not.
