There are though, certain games that may seem easy, but in reality take a lot of skill, patience, and hours to master. Games that either take luck into account or are just so brutal that anyone that plays them has the deck stacked against them. Games that while they’re easy to hop into, are nearly impossible to become a master at.

10Tetris

This classic puzzle block game has confounded and frustrated people since the ’80s. While learning the basics is easy: stack shapes and make sure they don’t reach the top while creating unbroken lines. Mastering your blocky architectural skills can be quite a challenge.

Likeso many other games from the ’80s, getting a perfect score in this game is actually a world record-worthy feat. It’s a record that few people have achieved, while many have been crushed by the attempt.

For those who just want a casual FPS tactical game, the option is here for you. But, for those who brave ranked matches, you will find quite a challenge. Like with so many other skill-based games, the learning curve is here, and it can be brutal. Especially when you come across a player who has sunk day after day into being the best counter-terrorist operator they can be.

8Hunt: Showdown

Braving the corrupt swamps of the American south is quite a challenge. From deadly monsters, all the way to rival hunters, they all want to send you to an early grave. While the basics of this game are simple, perfecting them is another story entirely.

The weapons each have their own feel, and mastering them takes time. Each run into the swamps means the possibility of losing your character and everything you’ve taken with them for the mission. Randomized monsters and the ever-present enemy hunter means that no two missions have the same dangers.

7The Binding Of Isaac

6Street Fighter

Fighting games, while fun for some, are the bane of others. It can be a fun time to go toe-to-toe with your friend as your favorite fighter. But, that all can change when you go online and see how good some people are at this game.

As with any multiplayer game, people can spend endless hours perfecting move sets and learning every inch of a game. While some have that time, so many others will find themselves on the receiving end of a beatdown by the hands of a player absolutely dominating with Ryu or whomever their favorite character may be.

5Cuphead

A combination of platformer andContra-like shooter, this game balances tough bosses and the need for quick reactions to stay alive. On the surface, playing as either the game’s titular character or Mugman is easy enough. Shoot, run, dodge, and the like.

It’s once you really start playing the game, that you’ll realize just how deceptive the cartoony art style is when it comes to how difficult the game can be. This doubles when you up the difficulty options, or you want to do a perfect run.

4Darkest Dungeon

The game doesn’t pull punches, even from the beginning telling you that you will lose characters, it’s just inevitable. As far as playing the game though, there’s nothing difficult. It’s a typical turn-based strategy where you pick the right gear and moves to fight off the random enemies you encounter.

Getting good at the game, though, is a lesson in humility. There will be times when your entire party ends up in a grave, and you’re forced to field a whole new group of adventurers.

3Elden Ring

One of the frustration-inducing installments in the soulsborne game genre that is known for making even the best gamers throw their controllers in defeat.

As the Tarnished, you must wade through enemies both minor and major in a world that is dying. The goal: try not to die with it. While easy enough to get the handle on, as easy as any RPG really, the mastery of this game is quite the leap.

Each enemy is more than capable of killing you in just a few moments, and the proper balance of dodging, blocking, and attacking in turn is all that stands between continuing the story and being sent right back to the last site of grace.

2Hellish Quart

Ever wanted to play a game that accurately depicts how difficult a sword duel is? Hellish Quart is exactly that game.

The basic controls are really just like any other fighting game, simple movements and attacks each have their own button or combination of such. The goal as well is simple: damage your enemy enough to win the duel. It’s so simple it’s deceiving, because no matter if you’re fighting AI characters or another player, you will lose pretty often.

It’s brutal how easy it is to lose a match entirely, or have a near victory pulled away from you at the last second as one good hit to a vital part of a body is all it takes to kill someone. While it’s fun in its intensity, there is a lot to do to become a master duelist.

1CS:GO

One of the most played FPS games out there;CS:GOis the end-all-be-all game when it comes to easy games that are hard to master. At the base level, it plays as any FPS game. Aim and shoot to kill enemies and try to play the objective to win games.

However, people have been sinking hour upon hour into this game for years now, and in turn, they have become almost gods at this game. Every inch of the map, where every bullet in a recoil pattern goes, every audio clue, and even more have been noticed and obsessed over. The result is a sort of sixth sense in the players that are the elite in this game. If you’re just now looking at getting into this game, then you have a long way to go.
