Items inFire Emblem Engageare going to be the difference between life and death in most cases. They are crucial for everyone in your roster to have, especially little things like having one Vulnerary for each unit and more in your convoy is vital.

Engage’s items also include magical healing staves that can either restore HP, teleport allies or freeze enemies. There are a lot of options to choose from, but some are just more useful than others, as you’ll learn while you play. You shouldn’t go into battle without any of these items.
12Vulnerary
The bread and butter of every Fire Emblem game. Vulneraies are going to keep you alive in the early stages of any game while also being helpful throughout to restore bits of HP as and when you need them. You don’t always have a healer nearby to save you.
Vulneraries only restore 15 HP in total, but they will be critical to you to the point where you should always stock up and have one per unit. They come with three charges, so use them wisely.
11Stat Tonics
Stat tonics are never especially useful in Fire Emblem unless you’re playing on the harder difficulties. On Maddening mode specifically, they will be beneficial to you if you need a little boost for a short time.
Whether it’s defence, resistance, speed, or more attack, the stat tonics are the most useful in the game. They last for an entire battle, so it’s worthwhile to use them as and when you need them to give your allies a little bonus. Always keep a few spares in your convoy since it’s better to have them and not need them.
10Elixirs
These are the upgraded versions of Vulneraries in Engage. Usually, Elixirs in Fire Emblem restored 99 HP, but they have been nerfed to restore 30 HP this time around.

This means they’re effectively the Concoctions of this game, being the next tier up in terms of usable healing items. They also come with three charges but only appear later in the game. Until you unlock them in the shop, you should still use your Vulneraries to top yourself off.
9Boots
The permanent stat-increasingitems in Fire Emblemare some of the most powerful in the game. Depending on which one you get, it will give a chosen unit a permanent increase to one of its stats. The Boots increase your chosen unit’s movement by one.
Boots are by far some of the better and more useful stat-increasing items in Fire Emblem, just because anything that makes able to travel harder to kill is always going to be beneficial. Special shoutout to the Seraph Robe here and the Energy Drop, which increase your max HP and attack respectively.
8Warp
Warp is the spell that has consistently broken Fire Emblem games wide open. It seems like for the first time this has now been nerfed. Usually, the distance you can warp an ally scales off of the unit’s magic stat. This time it’s simply a flat number of squares away.
We’ve all seen videos of people using Warp to immediately get to the end of a level and finish it in one turn, but this is no longer the case in Engage. For better or worse, Warp has fallen far from its throne.
7Rescue
Another staple staff item returning in Fire Emblem Engage, Rescue lets you teleport units far away from you to safety. This is an excellent item with so many incredible uses.

If you’ve rushed ahead to stop athief from opening up a treasure chest, you can have one of your mage units further back get them out of danger immediately by pulling them back with Rescue. It’s perfect. Similarly to Warp, Rescue no longer scales off of the magic stat and can only grab units eight spaces away.
6Entrap
Entrap is one of the statuses staves that lets you snatch a faraway enemy and completely isolate them from their army. Entrap has a range of six, and its hit rate can be somewhat unreliable, but when it works you can do some damage.
It’s perfect for separating high-mobility or troubling units relying on chain attacks to whittle down your HP. Separating them from the pack will completely ruin their strategy, and you can happily wail on them without much risk.
5Talisman
Units in Fire Emblem will always be plagued with low Resistance. This stat dictates how much damage you’ll take from magical attacks, and magic hits hard in Engage.
The Talisman item, like the Dracoshield, will permanently increase one of your unit’s resistance stat by two points. It’s perfect for making your magical-orientated characters nigh-invulnerable to magic or helping one of your weaker units catch up.
4Mend
Mend is one of the higher-tier healing spells in Fire Emblem Engage. It restores more HP than the lower Heal staff but Mend has fewer uses. These staves should eventually become your normal heal item the more you progress through the game.

Mend should ultimately replace Heal since your HP will be much higher, and the enemies will begin dealing more damage to you. You’ll always need a healer in Fire Emblem, so you should triple check you have a healthy supply of Mends and other healing staves on you.
3Freeze
Another status staff, Freeze is perfect for giving your army some breathing room. Your mages can use this stuff to try and freeze an enemy in place, stopping their movement for an entire turn.
It should be obvious why this is so powerful as it even works on some bosses who aren’t immune to such status effects. Being able to freeze a boss while you group up to launch an attack is invaluable and you should always try and have someone with this staff.
