WhenHearthstone Battlegroundsfirst launched, Mechs were heavily focused on the midgame. They were oppressive during that phase, but they often fell short of being able to beat the one person in the lobby who managed to survive into the endgame with a scaling composition.

However, later changes to the minion type have helped them become a more balanced group. Their main focus ison Divine Shields, which protect minions from Poison and allows them to trade favorably in the late game. As a result, Mechs are strong both by themselves and in dedicated builds — these are the best Mechs forevery scenario in Battlegrounds.

10Pupbot

Pupbot having Divine Shield makes it one of the strongest standalone minions in the first few turns of the game, but Pupbot’s real strength is in its staying power. Divine Shield makes it a great target for early buffs like Blood Gems or the various Battlecries available.

Of course, there are plenty of other minions with this keyword, but they don’t appear until higher Tavern Tiers. The fact that you’re able to find Pupbot so early means you can continue buffing it throughout the entire game, which is extremely uncommon for a Tavern Tier 1 unit.

9Cyborg Drake

Cyborg Drake is an interesting minion. It is unique in a couple of ways, possessingboth the Dragonand Mech types, and having the ability to buff minions when they have Divine Shield. The buff is crucial, since ten attack is more than enough to be significant, and when the Drake is tripled that number increases to twenty, which is enough to be relevant even in the endgame.

Many Mechs have the ability to regain Divine Shield after they lose it, allowing them to regain the buff (assuming the Drake is still alive). Additionally, the Cyborg Drake’s ability also applies to itself, so it’s not bad as a standalone option if you need something to play, and can be used to fill the Dragon or Mech slot in a multi-type build.

8Foe Reaper 4000

Foe Reaper 4000’s base stats aren’t going to be enough to deal significant damage by the time you are finding Tavern Tier 6 minions. As a result, you’ll need a way to boost its attack. Fortunately, there are many ways to do that, although you might run into trouble if you don’t manage it quickly enough.

That said, the Reaper is the only minion in Battlegrounds that has the ability to deal damage next to the minion it attacksandcan be given Divine Shield relatively easily. It also synergizes well with the main in-fight buffer for Mechs, Omega Buster, since it multiplies the benefits of such buffs by three (so long as there are minions on both sides of the one it attacks).

7Grease Bot

Grease Bot has gone through a series of buffs and nerfs, running the gamut from basically never seeing play to being frustratingly oppressive. After all that, the minion is… just okay. You can use it to buff any minion with Divine Shield, a list that mostly includes Mechs, but there are other Minions that fit into that category as well, giving Grease Bot some utility outside of Mech builds.

Unfortunately, the most recent nerf to Grease Bot took away its Divine Shield. As a result, it can no longer scale its own stats unless you’re able to put Divine Shield back on it. Unfortunately, the easiest way to do that, Annoy-o-Module, also gives Taunt, which can cause the Grease Bot to die before it can build up your stats the way you want it to.

6Mecha-Jaraxxus

Mecha-Jaraxxus is one of the new dual-type minions that appeared in Battlegrounds Season 3, being both a Mech and a Demon. In general, he is going to be more useful for Demon builds, since it allows them access to the Magnetize Keyword, which Mechs already have access to. However, the card does have some potentially interesting uses for Mech builds as well.

The minions created by his Battlecry, a 5/5 with Windfury, a 1/10 with Taunt, and a 10/1 with Reborn, all can be useful. Taunt is easy to get in other ways, but Reborn allows you to resummon minions without interfering with Monstrous Macaw’s effect with a Deathrattle. Windfury, while actively detrimental on any Mech whose Divine Shield can refresh, is great on Foe Reaper 4000. Of course, even if the abilities of these minions aren’t particularly useful to you, the stats are always nice to have. Additionally, if you do want to add Demon synergies of some kind to your Mech build, Mecha-Jaraxxus and his friends will let you do that.

5Micro Mummy

Micro Mummy was already a decent minion before Undead were introduced to Battlegrounds. The attack boost it gives, while small, can be meaningful early in the game, and having Reborn gives you an option to summon an additional mech that isn’t a Deathrattle. That means it won’t interfere with the effect of Monstrous Macaw, which triggers Deathrattle effects.

But with the arrival of Battlegrounds Season 3, Micro Mummy became a dual-type minion, gaining the Undead type to go along with its original Mech status. As a result, it benefits from the Undead synergies, many of which boost the attack of all Undead minions even if they’re summoned. And since you can give Micro Mummy Divine Shield, you effectively benefit from those boosts three times on a single minion.

4Deflect-O-Bot

Deflect-o-Bot’s ability to increase its attack after summoning Mechs is a fun side bonus, but it isn’t the main reason to run this minion. To start with, having Divine Shield innately makes Deflect-o-Bot a better option than many minions.

What makes Deflect-o-Bot better than most minions with the keyword is that it can get it multiple times in the same fight. There are few experiences in Battlegrounds more frustrating than seeing your minions slam into the same Divine Shield minion over and over again without killing it.

3Holy Mecherel

Aside from having a fun name, the Holy Mecherel is a powerful tool for Mech builds, or any build that is running several other Diving Shield minions. With some careful positioning, you can create scenarios in which the Mecherel’s Divine Shield refreshes multiple times in a single fight.

And if you’re able to give the Mecherel itself Divine Shield and Taunt with an Annoy-o-Module, and combine it with other Divine Shield minions, it becomes a constant shield for your opponents to slam into. This ability can get silly if you can give two Mecherals Divine Shield. Then they can actually trade Divine Shields back and forth. With enough luck (okay, a lot of luck), you’ll be able to continue the cycle infinitely.

2Annoy-O-Module

Annoy-o-Module is an unsung hero of Mech builds, and of the Battlegrounds in general. It can give Divine Shield to Mechs that don’t already have it, and is one of the primary reasons Mechs often find a way into multi-type builds, since you may start buffing any random Mech with the plan of giving it Divine Shield once you find an Annoy-o-Module.

It also has the ability to give Divine Shield to minions with all types, which you can then Poison, creating the ultimate minion.

1Omega Buster

Omega Buster’s Deathrattle gives your Mechs a massive increase in stats. When combined with Titus Rivendare and Monstrous Macaw, these stat boosts are multiplied exponentially. Additionally, the only neutral minion in the Mech pool, Kangor’s Apprentice, allows you to re-summon the Omega Buster several extra times.

You can also combine the Omega Buster, the Apprentice and Rivendare with Tunnel Blaster to create a nearly unbeatable Exodia comp that aims to fill the board with buffed Omega Busters. If your goal is to win games with Mechs, the Omega Buster is your best bet.
