There are lots of Mew cards in thePokemon TCG, with the illustrators choosing to depict the Pokemon in a variety of different ways. They explore the various aspects of Mew: its playful personality, its strength as a mythical, and its connection to nature and other Pokemon. However it’s represented, it’s charming all the same.

10Making A Splash: Mew (XY Promos #XY192)

At first glance, Saya Tsuruta’s depiction of Mew appears to be creating ripples on the surface of the water; however, the bubbles surrounding Mew’s body could imply that it’s underwater instead. The blue color scheme throughout the illustration complements Mew’s pinkness, while adding to the overall water effect and nightscape.

Mew is also bathed in a silvery light under the glow of the twinkling stars, creating an almost dream-like quality. There’s even a Premier Ball hidden in the light flare on the right if you look close enough.

9Blushing Pink: Mew (Expedition #55)

One of the older Mew cards in the Pokemon TCG, this card by Hajime Kusajima shows Mew floating and nestled among plants. As Mew’s signature color is pink, Kusajima cleverly used this throughout the card, as the environment has a pink sheen that complements Mew.

The touch of yellow, green, and purple helps to add depth to the environment, while still retaining the soft finish. The darker pink on Mew’s feet and the end of its tail gives the impression of blush, making the Pokemon even cuter.

8Eyes On You: Mew (Legend Maker #10)

In this card, Kouki Saitou focused on Mew’s sweet and innocent personality - the angle its head is tilted at emphasizes its big blue eyes. The way it’s drawn is the epitome of puppy dog eyes, and it has a look of pure curiosity. It would be impossible to say no to that face.

The angle of Mew makes its head appear larger than usual, which only adds to this charming interpretation. With this Mew card, Saitou was clearly aiming to emphasizeMew’s adorable nature, and succeeded.

7Below The Surface: Mew (Wizards Black Star Promos #47)

In this card by Ken Sugimori, Mew lies atop a rock, relaxing on it. The lighting effect makes it seem as though Mew is underwater, without the traditional use of blue for water. In comparison to the size of the rock, Mew is noticeably small, making it even cuter than normal.

Sugimori’s art style is quintessential to the Pokemon series, so it’s unsurprising that his interpretation of Mew is executed well. Although simplistic, the background creates a picturesque scene, as if you’ve just stumbled upon the mythical Pokemon by accident.

6Rainbow Connection: Mew (XY Promos #XY110)

Kouki Saitou’s card shows Mew’s playful personality, as it flies through a field of flowers. Mew has a white flower clutched in its paws, as well as a sweet smile on its face. The cherry on top of the card’s idyllic atmosphere is the rainbow arched in the background.

Saitou chose to depict Mew literally shining, as the rays of light from the sun bathe Mew in a white glow. The bright colors used throughout the illustration help to elevate the card’s happy mood. Mew looks completely carefree as it enjoys nature on a sunny day.

The background of the card features a futuristic cityscape, with buildings fitted with neon glass windows. Mew’s paw is positioned in a way that makes it look as though it’s gathering energy to unleash an attack and it has a swirling aura around its body, demonstrating how powerful it truly is under its cute personality.

4Just Happy To Be There: Mew (Black & White Promos #BW98)

Naoki Saito’s artwork is known for its vibrant and emotive expressions that help to bringthe Pokemon and trainersto life. This Mew card is no exception, as Saito chose to show Mew with a jolly smile, as it enjoys simply floating in what looks to be a forest, with blurred trees in the background.

Although the scene depicted is simple, Saito’s characterization of Mew is what makes the card shine, especially when paired with the gentle coloring used throughout the illustration. Saito definitely captured Mew’s lively and childlike personality.

3Friends Forever: Mew V (Fusion Strike #251)

In this full art card, Naoki Saito again shows their interpretation of Mew, this time alongside other Pokemon. Although the other Pokemon are easily recognizable, the way they’re positioned makes Mew center stage, highlighting its friendliness with them all.

Saito did an excellent job with the atmosphere on this card, especially through Mew’s expression as it looks at Toxtricity with shining eyes and a wide-open smile. The best detail is the Dreepy on top of Mew’s head, which appears to be quite relaxed as it travels in style on top of the mythical Pokemon, mimicking how Dreepy often sit on Drakloak.

2Twinkle Twinkle: Mew-EX (Legendary Treasures #RC24)

The bright blue of Mew’s eyes also matches the shade of blue used in the background, tying the entire card together. The sparkles in the background are a nice finishing touch that emphasizes Mew’s mythical status, while adding depth to the card with a contrasting color. To top it all off, Mew has a little smile on its face, giving it a demure expression.

1Out Of A Fairytale: Mew (Crown Zenith #GG10)

This full art Mew card by Ryota Murayama depicts Mew who appears to have fallen asleep after eating a Sitrus Berry. In the card, various Pokemon have gathered to look upon the sleeping Mew - one of the Skwovets is gazing at Mew with an awe-struck expression, holding its paw to its mouth.

Even among Pokemon, it’s rare to see the mythical Mew, which Murayama showcases through the composition of the illustration. The other Pokemon surround Mew in a circle, and Mew itself remains the focus of the card. It has a whimsical atmosphere thanks to the forest environment and natural color scheme, similar to something out of a fairy tale.
