There is nothing quite as powerful as a sisterly bond, but for some reason, video games don’t feature that many prominent sisters. A lot of women in games are written as only children or side characters, and that’s if their familial backstory is delved into at all.There are plenty of notable mothersin games and by extension a lot of memorial daughters, but for some reason, we rarely see female siblings represented in games.

However, there are a few notable exceptions. We might not be delighted if some of these women were our relatives, but they epitomize what having a sister is like. From being a loving friend to agood-natured rival, and from being an emotional rock to an arch-nemesis these are the sisters with the strongest familial bonds.
10Anna And Nina Williams - Tekken Seires
As we said, we won’t choose to be Anna or Nina Williams' relative - but then again, you’re able to’t pick your family. Daughters of an IRA assassin, these two have been at each other’s throats since before the firstTekkenwhen they werebeing trained as assassinsand would often try to humiliate each other on missions.
As much as we wouldn’t like to be caught in the middle of the Williams' Christmas dinner, the two do have some affection for each other. After all,when Nina lost her memory after being cryogenically frozen, Anna tried to make sure her sister didn’t fall down the rabbit hole and become an assassin again. This clearly could have gone better though, considering Nina killed Anna’s fiancé on their wedding day and ran away in Anna’s dress in Tekken 7.
9Saeko And Nanoha Mukoda - Yakuza: Like A Dragon
We don’t meet Nanoha Mukoda for long inYakuza: Like A Dragon, but from the time that we spend with her, we learn that she cares deeply about her family. She works hard at Otohime Land soap land so that she can pay the exorbitant rates for her father to stay at what she thinks is the best old folks home in Ijincho.

However, when things begin to spiral out of control and she and Ichiban’s gang become embroiled in a murder, Saeko, her estranged sister, quietly steps in. The two may not talk much anymore, but Saeko cares for her sister and dad enough that she puts her life on the line to help Ichiban in his quest. All just so Nanoha can go back to living a somewhat normal life again.
8Popola And Devola - Nier Series
Devola and Popola first appeared in the firstNiergame as locals in Nier’s village and work well together asa tavern performerand the local librarian. As that first game goes on, Nier learns how much to two care for each other for it to be revealed that they are both ancient androids.
Thousands of years later, the two still live together and appear in 9S’s time of need to help him get inside the Tower and maybe end the war between machine and android. Later, A2 meets the sisters who were both mortally wounded during the assault -they seem to finally be at peace having helped 2B and 9S, but sadly they die shortly thereafter in each other’s arms.
7Lightning And Serah Farron - Final Fantasy 13
Lightning might be the character most fondly remembered from theFinal Fantasy13 series, but it can’t be understated just how important Serrah, her sister, was to those games too. The entire plot of Final Fantasy 13 is set in motion by Lightning’s quest to find her sister, and similarly,the plot of 13-2was kicked off by Serah searching for her sister.

These two would (and do) go to the ends of the earth for each other. They are also maybe the most stylish sisters in games, with one of them even landing a partnership with Louis Vuitton and Prada. Maybe we’re jealous that neither of them was our sister, sowe couldn’t borrow their clothes when going out to parties or on an epic quest to slay monsters.
6The Little Sisters And The Big Sisters - BioShock
Okay, we really don’t want these girls as our sisters, because if that’s the case we have either been turned into an ADAM farming monster ourselves, or worse - we’ve become one ofBioShock’s murderous Big Sisters. That being said, if you are going to become a horrific henchwoman for an uber-libertarian leader of a doomed underwater city, there would be worse siblings to have than this found family of orphans. Even if some of them actually do have parents that they have been stolen from…
As twisted as they have become byplasmids and ADAM, these sisters do deeply care about their family. So much so that their adopted fathers areextremelyprotective of their daughters. They might not be a typical family, but don’t judge these young girls are sisters at heart.
5The Giana Sisters - The Great Giana Sisters
What are some fun sisterly activities? Playing dress up, getting into a sport together, and copyright infringement! These two sisters we created after Time Wrap Productions pitched Nintendo the idea of portingSuper Mario Bros. to computers like the Amiga and Commodore 64. WhenNintendomade clear it had no intentions of putting the plumber brothers on anything other thanNES, the studio went away and made its own platforming game.

Giana and, her sister, Maria’s first game may have been a rather bold Mario Bros. reskin only available on computers of the era, but in the years since, they have carved out a niche following. The two even got new games on the DS, PS3, Xbox 360, and more. While they might not be the most famous sisters in games, they are the most brazen.
4Zofia And Jessica Blazkowicz - Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Wolfenstein: Youngbloodwas a bit of a letdown. The hard and fast FPS combat of two previousWolfensteingames just couldn’t make the jump to a co-op, level-based, RPG. However, while the sequel that left BJ Blazkowicz and Co. behind wasn’t a hit, one thing that it did nail was the interactions between two badass Nazi-fighting twins.
Soph and Jess are just two bros of sisters constantly trying to one-up and out-quip each other. While that sounds like it might grow tedious, their chemistry is so natural and infectious you may’t help but laugh as the two race each other to kill the most members of the Fourth Reich, or help pep each other up by signaling “rock on” to each other.
3Samantha And Kaitlin Greebbriaar - Gone Home
There’s something about sisters - you know they’ll back you up when you need it. It’s something that often doesn’t even need to be spoken, all you need to know is that one of them is a cool big sis that would kill to protect her sibling. That’s what things are like for Kaitlin and Samantha inGone Home.

What starts as a seeming examination of their relationship by wandering through a deserted house in 1995, quickly pivots to a story about a big sis watching her sister grow up and discovering herself. The game might be about Sam’s relationship with Lonnie first and foremost, but a recurring theme is how Kaitlin was the only person Sam feels sees and accepts her for who she really is. Truly a great sister.
2Evie Frye - Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
One type of sister is the one whose always there for you, and the other is the one that will bail you out after you mess up. Evie is the brains between the two Fryes inAssassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and while Jacob might be the muscle, she is no pushover herself.
Often, when Jacob charges in head first, it falls to Evie to sneak in after and clean up his mess. Despite this, she still loves him, and he loves her deeply. They might be very different people, but that’s what makes them work so well together.

But at the end of the day, the real reason the protagonist ofA Plague Taleis the best sister is that she is the only person willing to deal with a literal sea of rats to protect her brother. That’s admirable.
