The color yellow in theDigimon Card Gameis home to many of the game’s most popular staple cards. Decks like Yellow Hybrid and Security Control have proved strong and therefore highly popular, leadingBandaito restrict some of these powerful cards.

Yellow is a strong color with plenty of options, able to power up one of the most popular tactics — stalling. Cards that can control the opponent’s board, alongside recovering some of your Security cards like MagnaAngemon, will be around for many sets to come. These are some of the best.

10Holy Wave

Although Holy Wave is not as popular as it was back in the earlier sets of the game, it is still a strong card, especially when coming out of Security. It is everything that yellow embodies, a slower-paced game with a focus on Security.

While technically MagnaAngemon is a way better card than Holy Wave, because it does the same with the option to be able to attack and for one memory less to play, Holy Wave is just another avenue for you to recover even more Security.

9Chaos Degradation

When the Parallel World Tactician deck was released, many swooned over Chaos Degradation. It was one of the first instances in the Digimon Card Game where a card was able to remove a Digimon without deleting it, returning to the hand or deck, or reducing its DP. It was groundbreaking and extremely strong, which led many to believe that Mastemon was the best deck of the format.

Mastemon did see a few notable tops in competitive play, but it fell apart due to its learning curve. Chaos Degradation remains one of the strongest removal Option cards, even after BT-11, where more cards were printed that could dodge its effect.

8Holy Flame

Holy Flame is one of the strongest stall cards found in yellow. Being able to give one of your opponent’s Digimon an effect that reduces their Security Attack by three is huge. This is especially true when most overly aggressive decks struggle to get that many Security Attacks — unless their strategy is more based on a one-turn-kill game plan.

With newer cards like Venusmon that help you stall further and even negate your opponent’s effects, Holy Flame is one of the best Options to use if your aim is to slow down your opponent’s rampage.

7MagnaAngemon

Seven memory might seem a bit too high of a cost to pay for MagnaAngemon’s effect to Recover one Security, but in decks like Mastemon that can DNA Digivolve when you pass your turn, this card suddenly becomes extremely powerful.

MagnaAngemon has always been a strong card, even on release. With the prominence of decks like Security Control, which don’t mind paying high costs for their cards since their game plan is to sit back and let their Security do most of the heavy lifting, MagnaAngemon has become an extremely popular card.

6T.K. Takaishi & Kari Kamiya

Most of the complaints about Yellow Hybrid as a deck stemmed from JetSylphymon being an unfair card, but not many talked about how powerful all the yellow Tamers were. One of those Tamer cards was T.K. Takaishi & Kari Kamiya.

Mostly used when playing on the back foot, T.K. & Kari give you two memory at the start of your turn if you have less Security than your opponent. This effect means that you could be down a Security or two, then evolve into JetSylphymon on top of this card for an easy recovery tactic.

5Sunrise Buster

There is a reason why many of the yellow staple cards can be found on the Restricted and Banned List. Sunrise Buster wreaked havoc upon its release, even when paired withthe best cards of BT10. It has a low play cost and endless amount of value by playing another Tamer, possibly deleting a huge threat.

Even in most modern Hybrid decks, you will still see a one-of copy of Sunrise Buster in the list, purely because of the sheer amount of Tamers these decks play. Good riddance that this card was restricted as Xros Heart was released.

4Patamon

Besides Recovery, the other big thing that yellow does is removal through DP reduction effects. In the Digimon Card Game, when a Digimon’s DP is reduced to zero, that Digimon is deleted. With Patamon as your Rookie, you can also gain one memory by deleting one of your opponent’s Digimon.

This may not seem like a lot, but this effect means that a lot of your Option cards that reduce Digimon’s DP effectively cost one less memory to play. This makes cards like Wyvern’s Breath not hurt as much to play.

3Reinforcing Memory Boost

Not so much made as a Memory Boost to search for cards, Reinforcing Memory Boost is mostly used for easy Recovery. Reinforcing is one of the Memory Boosts with the highest costs to play, but the benefits it provides match its cost.

Reinforcing Memory Boosts only lets you look at the top two cards of your deck, but it also lets you place one in your Security stack and add the other to your hand. Card draw, Recovery, and gaining three memory next turn? No wonder this card is limited to one.

2Wyvern’s Breath

Wyvern’s Breath is one of the few big pieces of removal for yellow, but it definitely is on the top end of quality. Wyvern’s Breath can dodge many protection effects since most of them protect against deletion rather than DP reduction.

Although Wyvern’s Breath is slowly getting power crept as Bandai releases cards with more than 13,000 DP and better protection skills, it is still a must-own for any of you playing yellow.

1T.K. Takaishi

T.K. Takaishi is the best Tamer in yellow. One of the few memory setters found in the color, T.K. also follows the same strategy that most of the other yellow cards follow: Recovery.

T.K. allows you to search your Security stack for a card — if it’s a yellow card, you can Recover one. This effect is extremely strong, not only for the Recovery, but because knowing what is in your Security stack is knowledge is indispensable to you. It allows you to guide your plays in whichever way might better suit the situation and even plan ahead for your opponent’s attacks.
