Overlandis one of the most underrated survival games out there. With its unique approach to the genre, you get to traverse the United States on a road trip, but not one of the happy-go-lucky ones you see on TV. Instead, you’re going west to understand what happened to the world and find an answer to the Bug invasion that is making life so hard.

Overland will kill you a lot of times - it just isn’t that friendly when you first start playing the game, and that’s why we decided to come up with this handy survival list for you to come over and look at when you’re about to rage-quit the game and need to relax a moment.
10Prioritize Resources
One of themain survival aspects in Overlandthat you’ll need to pay close attention to is your resource gathering. You can only expect to get far if you collect enough fuel, food, first aid kits, and, most importantly, weapons while on the road.
Sometimes when you’re on a map, you’ll have to decide which resource is most important to go toward, and most times, that will be fuel. Getting stuck in the middle of the night with the Bugs surrounding you is a situation you will want to avoid.
9Recruit. Recruit. Recruit.
Various randomly generated Ally NPCs are in the game to bring along your journey. Remember, you’ll find strength in numbers. Also, there are a whole lot of dogs that could use your company too.Those doggos should always be supported.
Allies are great to have, even just for the company, and the chance of picking up more resources and weapons from the ground is great, but avoid getting too excited; some potential allies have debuffs that will be detrimental in the long run.
8Abilities And Items Are Live Savers
When the game starts, your character is randomly generated and might have some pretty impressive abilities. Take the Flammable as an example. You’ll be able to create torches from the branches you pick up, helping you get around a dark map. Use these abilities when formulating your plans.
Also, remember that most weapons you find in the game have a certain amount of durability. So please don’t go out and expect to take out every single bug on the map; that’s an excellent way to avoid making it to the end of your road trip.
7Make Tough Choices
The most challenging aspect of Overland isn’t just the fighting and the surviving. The game puts you against tough choices to get to the following map. Sometimes you have to leave some resources on the map because there are too many bugs.

Other times, you’ll have to leave a potential new partner behind without getting a chance to save them - and the game will probably make you pay this later if that NPC survives. And the worst case ever is when you have to leave a doggo behind. They don’t deserve it, but if you want to stay alive, you’ll have to be ready to make some sacrificecs.
6Be Environmentally Aware
You’ll find a great variety of environments in Overland, and sometimes this will be why you’ll pass a map and keeppushing forward towards the west coast, or you’ll find your demise at the hand of swarms of bugs.
Sometimes you’ll find a potential stuck ally behind a dumpster, and that could mean a new friend to bring along on your travels, but it also means that you’ll have to spend action points to free them. Also, there’s a whole variety of barriers to keep you safe from bug attacks.
5Upgrade Your Vehicle
Sure, weapons are essential in Overland, but the real thing you need on your journey is no other than the car you drive in the game. Without the car, there’s no road trip, after all.
So, verify you get to pick up any vehicle upgrades you find along your journey. One of the best upgrades is the Extra Tank. It’s a great find, giving you five extra gallons of fuel to take a long, leaving your gas worries behind.
4Stay Alert
When trying to survive your journey to the West Coast, you must always be ready to encounter the worst situations. Sure, in the early stages, the game might seem easy-peasy. Once you realize what it means to run out of gas during a night drive, that all changes your perspective.

Always have enough fuel to get you across the USA, and we can’t stress that enough, you’ll find yourself stuck in a swarm of Bugs that you won’t survive.
3Keep An Eye Out For Your Team’s Abilities And Debuffs
Every ally you find on your adventures comes with a particular skill set; they might be different from the ones you’ll find your main character can have at the beginning of the game, or they might have debuffs that could hinder your gameplay.
When you decide who to save along the way, ensure those abilities can help you when you’re on the road. For example, a great combo is a Firemaker and a character that can put out fires; this way, you don’t need to rush across the map looking for fire extinguishers.
2Explore And Scavenge
The game is fundamentally a survival one. And as in every excellent survival game out there, you will need to scavenge a bit to make it on your trip to the West Coast. However, you’ll get your hands on some pretty unique items on your journey if you pay close attention to the environment.
Also, you’ll find essential things like fuel, the only thing that’ll take you all the way. Only expect to make it when you have enough fuel.
