The long weekend has begun. No, you didn’t forget about a holiday on Monday. It’s just that this is the final edition of What’s TheGamer Staff Playing This Weekend?, at least for the foreseeable future, and I like to imagine the column is riding off into the sunset, ready to settle down for an infinite loop of Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

So, I encourage you to imagine that we will be playing the games we mention in this week’s edition forever. I’ll always be playing Tetris. Rhiannon will always be questing through Fable. And, though Amanda doesn’t mention it this week, I like to imagine she’ll never stop playingPowerWash Simulator.

I will mostly be finishing up a game I can’t talk about yet for a review dropping early next week, but if I find time for others, I’ll keep making my way throughMass Effect 2,Dead Space, and/orHi-Fi Rush. I say that, but the thing I’ve been playing most consistently since it got added toNintendo Switch OnlineisTetris, aperfect game.

I am now free from the land of embargoes, so I can talk about the embargoed things I still don’t have time to finish after spending the last week in Canada.Like A Dragon: Ishin,Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line,Octopath Traveller, andAtomic Heartare on my list. However, I’m also on a bit of a Double Fine bender after starting the newPsychonauts 2documentary and rediscovering my love for the legendary developer. Maybe I’ll just curl up in a ball and play old adventure games.

I’m in Ireland visiting my boyfriend right now, which means we’ll be spending the weekend sat next to each other, both playing a different single-player RPG. I’m opting for the originalFablethis time, as its daft British charm is perfect for whenever I’m feeling homesick. Yeah, there are a bunch of new releases I’m behind on, but I can always make time for another Fable playthrough. Well, I can’t, but I do it anyway.

I will spend all weekend with my brand-new computer (an absolute monster) andSons Of The Forest. This game has blown me away. It’s terrifying, but it has some of the best survival mechanics I’ve ever seen, refreshed and replenished with new graphics and a new storyline. Play it.

Feeling a craving for something that was both macabre and a management game (macabrement game?). I’ve booted upGraveyard Keeperagain and started a new file. It scratches that itch perfectly, though I am reminded of the lack of guidance the game provides, while also overwhelming you with options. You go from ‘bury a body in a grave’ to ‘fabricate a book binding using a tanning agent made from evil brains’ way too quickly. And you’re never told the process; you basically need to scour the wiki whenever you want to make progress. It’s not the best, but not bad enough to stop me from being sucked in again. So I return to my morgue, dissecting until I can form the most exquisite corpse this land has ever seen.

As per my New Year’s Resolution, I’ll be playing through all the mainlineHalocampaigns. My partner and I are going backwards in time, so we’ll be starting withHalo Infinite. We’ve already begun our playthrough, and damn, it’s made me remember what fun the Infinite campaign is. Even though my woes with the state of multiplayer remain, the campaign is a hell of a lot of fun, and being able to (finally) play it with another person just hammers home the nostalgic joy I feel when I dip into one of the older Halo campaigns couch co-op style. We’re zooming across Zeta Halo together, absolutely demolishing random patrols of Banished and panic-shooting at some of the tougher bosses. It’s great!
