Pokemon Day, the anniversary of the day the first Pokemon games launched in Japan, is quickly approaching. Next Monday, February 27, the Pokemon company will celebrate the franchise’s 27th year with a social media campaign called ‘Pokemon Together’, new products and sales at the Pokemon Center, and hopefully, some big video game news.
We’ve had a Pokemon Presents livestream the past two years in a row, and both presentations featured major game announcements. 2021 saw the reveal of New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus, while last year’s Pokemon Day livestream revealed Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. If the pattern holds, we’ll have another Pokemon Presents this February 27 too - and we already have some decent guesses about what will be shown.
Starting with the obvious stuff, any potential Pokemon Presents will definitely include updates on the three major Pokemon mobile games. The past Pokemon Day presentations have started up with info about new trainers coming to Pokemon Masters EX, upcoming events in Pokemon Cafe Remix, and new unite licenses in Pokemon Unite. Expect to hear more about the Pokemon that were recently added to Unite’s Public Test Server, Goodra and Lapras, as well as recently leaked Pokemon, Zacian andUmbreon.

It’s also a fairly safe bet that we’ll learn about Scarlet & Violet’s upcoming DLC. In lieu of a updated third or ultra version, Pokemon switched to DLC add-ons in Gen 8. Sword & Shield launched in 2019 and was followed by two expansion packs, The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, in 2020. It’s presumed that Scarlet & Violet will have its own expansion pass this year, and Pokemon Day is the perfect time to announce it.
We have some clues about other Pokemon games that could be announced this year.Journalist Felipe Limafound a reference to Spike Chunsoft on thePokemon Together website, which could suggest that another Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is on the way. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, a remake of the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, launched in 2020 and sold close to two million copies as of December 2021. We could also be getting a remake of the sequel, Explorers of Time and Darkness, or an entirely new entry in the series.
It’s also possible that Pokken Tournament 2 might get announced. Last year’s Pokemon World Championship Series marked the final year that Pokken would be featured, so it makes sense that Bandai Namco is gearing up to announce a sequel. Producer Masaki Hosino, who worked on the original Pokken, recently left the Pokemon Unite team for a new project. Perhaps Hoshino is returning to Pokken.
There’s are plenty of other possibilities. Some are hoping to see Let’s Go Johto, a sequel to the Pokemon Go crossover game that takes place in Gold & Silver region. Fans of Pokemon Legends are hoping for a new entry, and Legends: Celebi is a popular fan theory given the Pokemon’s time travel abilities. Personally, I’d like to see more Pokemon Snap.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that something totally unexpected will happen. Maybe it’s finally time for that gritty ‘adult’ Pokemon game everyone thinks they want, or perhaps Pokemon Sleep will finally materialize. In any event, there’s only a week left before the big day.
