It hits the proverbial fan inEvil West. Chaos is unleashed atCalico, a beloved character gets killed and the story in general begins to wind down to a rather rushed and brief conclusion. It’s also a level that involves another boss fight against a unique monster that can cause a lot of problems for the unprepared.

The mission itself is pretty short, the map is narrow and there’s a lot of collectibles scattered along the path to make sure you’re appropriately powered up enough for the sprint to the final chapter. To make sure you don’t miss anything and beat the boss without too much frustration, here’s a helpful walkthrough forChapter 14: A Son’s DutyinEvil West.

Kill William Rentier

William Rentier The Sanguisuge

After getting the information that they need fromChester Morgan, along with word thatWilliam Rentiermay have finally succumbed to hisVampire Infection,JessieandEdgarrace back toCalico, arriving at a scene of absolute anarchy. TheSaloonis drenched in blood, corpses of namelessRentier Institute Agentsare scattered around like ragdolls, and the decor is pretty smashed up or clawed apart. Seems like the work ofVampires, or rather, one Vampire in particular.

Turns out, at some point whilstJessiewas gone,William RentierandVergilwere working together inCalicoon something.Vergilaccidentally cut his hand, which in turn was the trigger that set offWilliam Rentiers’dormant blood frenzy.Vergilgets brutally murdered byWilliam, along with a good number ofRI AgentsbeforeWilliamflees toPersephone, the location of theVampire’s Train Manufactory. SoJessiesets off after his now-fully-turnedFatheron a fury-filled quest for vengeance.

Evil West: Jessie And Edgar Returning To A Destroyed Calico

You’ll be dropped straight into the mission from the cutscene,Calicois absolutely ruined and out of commission so it’s now gone from the game as a HUB. Your collectibles going forward will be found in the levels mostly directly in your path, or at least very nearby, so for those going for the 100 percent run will have less wandering about to do as the game starts to wind down. The mission opens at theTrain Yard, but before going too deep in, keep left and there will a short trail that will take you to the first bag ofcollectible Bucksfor this Chapter on a box.

Keep left again as you push forwardtowards the Trainsthere will be some moreBuckson crates in front of an immobile engine. Go straight alongside theTrainto get to your first big fight arena, it’s against aStalkerwith a group ofInfected Proteushanging out on top of nearbyFreight Carsthat will tossTicsto make the fight more annoying. JustZapp Pullthem down to get them into range, then deal with their larger friend once they’re rendered into bloody chunks and pulp. MoreInfected Proteuswill continue to pop up where their pals were as the fight drags on, but that’s about as threatening as this encounter gets.

Evil West: Jessie Arriving At The Vampire Owned Train Yard

Once it’s finished, cross over the barricade opposite to where you originally dropped in to continue pushing onwards through theTrain Station. After hopping over, go right as soon as you’re able to, there’sBuckson a box to grab. Head forward and then go right behind the fence to access aTrain Car. There’s anEnergy Rechargeinside and as you walk through itJessiewill auto-collect a nearby bag ofBucks. Hop out theTrain Carand go right, continue all the way around to get on top of it.

Hop down to the left and push theTrain Carinto place to create a bridge and continue towards aPower Switch. AsJessiedrops down to the switch, look left, there’sBucksto grab. Flip thePower Switchto lower anotherTrain Carthat was blocking the path ahead. Retrace your steps after smashing the barricade to the right, andcross across this new bridge, you’ll also seeBuckson the ground as you go over, make sure to grab them on the way. Drop down into the next big arena and get ready for a brawl.

Evil West: A Stalker And Infected Proteus Ambushing Jessie

This timeJessieis going to be facing off against aCarrion Husk,Leecher,Infected Vessels, and aHive Crone. Thankfully theCroneonly tends to appear after theLeecherdies, but make sure to focus on it when it does. TheCarrion Huskis big, slow, and easy to dodge, so you don’t have to deal with it right away and you can comfortably coast through the fight with it left until last. Once the fight finishes, hop over the barricade on the left before you leave, there will be aTNTbox on the left as you get out, blow it up and there will be achestwith339 Bucksbehind it.

Retrace your steps back into the arena and go over the barrier on the left, this is the exit. As you go over this small obstacle there’ll be aglowing box withBucks on the right andWilliam Rentierwill start to tauntJessie. Continue onwards over the rickety bridge and head towards the right, there’s a gap to jump over.

Evil West: Jessie Watching A Carrion Husk And Leecher From A Safe Distance

Crossing over, follow the path along to the left, there’ll beBuckson boxes in front of you and another barricade to the left. Hopping down from here, blow up theTNTahead to get another bag ofBucksand clear the path, keep left from here and go into theTrain Car, there’s moreBucksinside of it that you can climb up to collect.

Clamber between the coffins to continue onwards and after dropping down, look right, there’sTNTin a shed. Detonate it to reveal achestwith395 Bucksand after cracking it open, head back to the main path towards theBlueprint Tableto get theLightning Tornadoupgrade for theExplosive Bundles. Enhancement collected, ensure to not move from this spot. Look up from the table, there will be some hanging girders on the end of aCrane Hoist. Hidden away on the left side closest to Jessie is a bag of Bucks.

Evil West: Jessie Approaching An Interactable Gap

TheLightning Tornadoupgrade is the final and best enhancement for theExplosive Bundles. It spawns a spinningTornadowhen the bomb detonates which also sends out lightning bolts and homes in on targets around the room. If combined withTriple Charges, it sends out threeTornadosat once.

To dislodge this hidden cash you’re going to need to land a lucky throw with theExplosive Bundles. Luckily these portable pipe bombs can be thrown constantly and infinitely until they cause a kill, at which point the cooldown kicks in. So you’re able to just chuck as many as you want at it until the cash falls for you to collect. To the left of the table is a barricade with aHealth Chargeand the path ahead is directly opposite, although before going over the next barricade into theTrain Shed, there’s aglowing boxwithBuckson the left so make sure to grab it.

Evil West: Bucks Hidden Above Jessie

For those withArachnophobia, it’s going to get a little rough for a while. The next section involveswalking through a Spider infested shed, but it all kicks off first with a fight against aCarrion Huskand a very big group ofInfected Vessels. If yourEnergylevels are low, this is a great spot to farm using the trash tier enemies. But if you’re topped off just throw someLightning Tornado-infused Explosive Bundles, or break out theRentier Gatlingand gun them all down as they’ll just get in your way whilst dealing you deal with theCarrion Husk.

After the minions are thinned out aGasterwill show up to keep things nice and tense, but without backup, it’s not much of a threat in this tiny enclosed space. Pull the nearbyPower Switchto clear the path ahead and as you cross under there’ll be aglowing boxwithBucksinside directly ahead of you. There’s nothing else inside this new open space, so head to the back of the room to get into a miniature maze inside some storage crates. As you squeeze through there will be acollectible lore notein front of you, it’s the first part ofWilliam Rentier’s Writings.

Evil West: Jessie Encountering A Large Group Of Monsters

Burn the websacross from the note and do the same to the next two sets on the left side, the second webbing will reveal aHidden Chestwith theGhost Zapper skinfor theGauntlet. Going through the webs to the right of this alcove is the way forward, but after burning them down, look right again, there’sBucksto collect. Follow this path around to get out and as you cross through aTrain Car, look up. There’s a chain to shoot down, climb up it, and run along the walkway to get out of this web-infested hell.

There’sBucksnext to the exit, so verify to pick them up.Ignore the chest on the Water Tower for now, and after you drop down start running to the right. Go all the way to the end of theTrain Carto get a bag ofBuckson the roof, then retrace your steps to continue the mission. Drop down from theTrainand activate thePower Switch, a short cutscene will play and you’ll be given the task of activating a series of switches one after the other topower up the Train Turntable so you can leave.

Evil West: Jessie Climbing Up A Metal Chain

However, before running around this new area. Smash theglowing boxnearby to get someBucks, then run directly opposite the switch towards theWater Tower, there’s a path that will take you right up to it. There’s a chain to shoot down that can be seen from this spot and climbing up it will allowJessieto get on top of theWater Towerand access to theHidden Chestprecariously perched on it. Inside this box is theTooldown Perk, a humble yet useful enhancement forJessie.

TheTooldown Perkis not incredibly powerful, but it is useful. It decreases theCrippling Rod’scooldown and allows for it to be used for more often. It’s not noticeable by much, but it does put more tools at your disposal.

Evil West: Jessie Aiming At A Chain Target

Drop down from theWater Towerand head towards thePerk Reset Machine, there are some barrels opposite of it with a bag ofBuckson them. Collect the cash and then head over to the two nearbyTrain Cars. You will have to push both of them to the end of their tracks in order to reach thePower Switchon the pole and the next set of switches just nearby. Climb up over theTrain Carthat doesn’t lead to the switch, ignore the otherPower Switchesfor now, and run left when you drop down. There areBuckson a box by a bush.

Grab theRailcarin this new section and push it all the way to the end of the track and climb on top. There’s achestup there with370 Bucks. Push theTrain Carall the way back when you’re done and then flip the firstPower Switch. Use the previously pushed obstacle as a bridge to hop up onto the nearby girders to get back to the original area where you came in. There’s a bag ofBucksat the end of this path, butJessiewill just auto-collect them as he goes past. Back in the original spot, start activating the switches in order one by one until theTurntableactivates and allowsJessieto run across.

Evil West: Jessie Turning A Rail Bridge

On the other side of this bridge is a bag ofBucksand a big open area, you can probably guess what’s going to happen by now. Surprise, it’s an ambush with some pretty tough enemies. This fight drops explodingInfected Wastersat first, but they’re followed up quickly by aHive Crone,Leecher, and aStalkercasting webs from a nearby rooftop. You can’t do anything about theStalkerfor now, so focus on the other two.

A large wave of explodingInfected Wasterswill appear after theCronedies, at which point theStalkerwill jump in alongside a small pack ofNagals. Once the dog boys die anotherStalkerwill appear to make things more difficult along with another big wave of explodingInfected Wastersand a thirdStalker. It’s a pretty grueling fight, but it’s the last large brawl you’ll have to deal with until the boss fight againstWilliam Rentierat the end of the level.

Once the monster squad is dead, hop through aTrain Carto continue onwards and listen to daddy dearest monologue about how great it is being aVampire, quite the change of opinion from earlier in the game.

Head into the large shed and as you go through the second doorway inside, look right as there’s the second piece ofWilliam Rentier’s Writingsto collect. Head into theTrain Shedproper and ignore the game’s request to break theGlamour, there’s a few things to collect first. Follow the path into the second section of the shed and go left, there’s aglowing boxwithBuckson the right side of the shed in the middle, and on the same side but towards theGlamouris a bag ofBucksbehind a barricade. Directly to the right of this same spot is a small path amongst webs that will lead to anotherglowing boxandBucks.

Hop up theTrain Carsat the back of this shed to get access to the walkway above. This is your only way to get to theGlamour. But head right instead, there’s another small area to pop into with a bag ofBucks on some barrels. Retrace your steps back onto the balcony and go break theGlamour. Reflective shards destroyed, go over the small ramp ahead and look left, there’sBucksright next to you. There’s also a lore note in front of you, it’sWilliam Rentier’s Letter, and off to the right isTNTwith the last bag ofBucksfor this chapter.

After filling your pockets, it’s time to go settle the score withWilliam. Head into the creepy-looking mansion. You can just sprint through this part as there’s nothing of note to collect and it’s just a dramatic build-up for the upcoming boss fight.

Boss Fight: William Rentier The Sanguisuge

Oh boy is this a rough one. It’s not the worst boss fight inEvil West, that’s reserved for the finale, but it’s not a good one either. The showdown betweenJessie Rentierand his dadWilliamcould have been a lot more dramatic and impactful, but it’s just kind of a wet fart. It’s another multi-phase boss fight and it’s highly recommended you have an upgraded dodge for this fight as it’s the only way to avoidWilliamsattacks fast enough. The standard roll is just not going to cut it here, it’s too slow.

The first phase of the fight is all about aggression right off the bat.Williamwill dash around, chunking your health with hisRevolver, and if he’s interrupted he’ll throw up orbs that will destroy your visibility like theGaster. When this happens, get ready to dodge immediately.Williamlikes to use the darkness to launch aDMC-style Stinger movewhereby he dashes in with a tentacle stab that can take off half your health bar if you’re not careful.

Movement is critical to this fight. The brawl againstWilliam Rentieris relentless and his attacks hurt quite a bit when they land. Your only option is going to be dodging and using theCrippling Rod.

After the darkness bomb, he’ll stay within melee range for a short period. However, he’s far from defenseless asWilliamwill toss outtentacle swings, a pretty nastygrab attack, a suddenshotgun blast, and a veryjumping slamthat will highlight the ground with anarea of effectthat you’ll need to dodge out of. This part of the fight will just wear you down asWilliamsvery tanky, so use theCrippling Rodand theOverchargeto slow dear old dad down a little.

Phase Two

When the second phase beginsWilliamwill gain some big tentacles and aninsect wave attackthat can be difficult to dodge the further you are away from him. He’ll dive into the ground and zip around to the other side of the arena when he’s about to start casting it, so get closer to give yourself a better chance at dodging.

Or, whip out theRentier Gatlingwith theCocoon Upgradeto negate the damage entirely.Williamwill also continue hischarging attackand theground slam, but this time the big whack move will have a much wider area to escape from. This phase is more predictable, but it’s the next phase when his health is about a quarter full where things start to get wacky.

Phase Three

Now William has a shield and he can fly. As he floats around, thewave attackwill continue to pour out over and over again, if you’re not dodging at least once every two or three seconds, you’re going to get hit. It’s by far the worst point in the fight and an absolute chore to deal with ifJessieis underpowered.

AsWilliamflies around you will have to shoot at him tocrack open the shield, or wait for him to do a big ranged attack where hisweak pointflashes and hope you get lucky. If you hitWilliamhe’ll fall to the ground for a few seconds, so go hog wild with theGauntletwhen he does, he deserves it honestly. He’ll do a slam attack before he gets up again, so get ready to zip out before it lands.

His other big attack that you’ll need to get used to in this phase is thefloating clones. During this move, a bunch of copies ofWilliamwill appear aroundJessiein a circle. You can chip away their shields to find the right one, or just spin the camera around and wait for them to fire first as some of them are fakes.Hitting the flashing weak points of a few of them will end this attack. Eventually, you’ll find the right one andWilliamwill fall into a vulnerable position again before cycling back into his move-set once more. It’s an annoying move that’s easy to shutdown and feels like it’s there to just slow the fight down.

AfterWilliamdies,Jessieburns the body and the rest ofPersephone as he heads off afterFelicity. She’s headed toWashington DC, but firstJessiedecides he needs to take out her bank first to stop anyone else from financing another bigVampire Armyin the immediate future. So it’s time for a good old-fashioned heist.
