Starlight Shards are scattered acrossElden Ringin the company of the strange stone astrolabes that dot the Lands Between. These lore-heavy objects are more than simple tokens to collect, but they are nonetheless limited objects of exceptional rarity you’ll want to take the time seeking out.

Each map area in Elden Ring harbors at least one Starlight Shard — with the exception of the Consecrated Snowfield, Haligtree, and Farum Azula areas. In total, there are 23 shards per playthrough (that thankfully respawn in New Game+), so you’ll want to track them all down if you’re hoping to get all their possible benefits.

Starlight Shards: What Are They?

Starlight Shardsat their most simple explanation areconsumable itemsthat cangradually recover FPwhen used. However, given how many other items can do the same, it is never recommended to use Starlight Shards in this manner. Instead, the best use of Starlight Shards is taking them toSeluvisand exchanging them for theSpirit Asheshe sells.

If you would like all of Seluvis’s spirit summons, you’ll need at leastten Starlight Shards, since you cannot obtain Dolores and the Dung Eater in the same playthrough.

Liurnia Starlight Shards

Liurnia is the richest area in terms of Starlight Shards. Given that this is the home of Raya Lucaria, Carian Manor, and the Moonlight Altar, this shouldn’t be particularly surprising. Altogether, there are12 Starlight Shards to find, with 11 of them found in a singular location locked by a lengthy questline. This means they are unavailable until at least midway through a standard playthrough.

Eastern Liurnia Of The Lakes Shard

From theArtist’s Shack, travel southdown the road andbreak rightjust before reaching the wooded area where the Night’s Cavalry lurks. Alternatively, you’re able to venture through the woodsnorthward if you’re coming from Gate Town. The stone astrolabe will beon the cliffside facing Raya Lucaria, and within sight of, much farther in the distance, Stormveil.

As mentioned, if you’re coming fromGate Town, you will need to contend withwolvesand - if you’re approaching at night -a Night’s Cavalryin order to reach the stone astrolabe.

Caelid Starlight Shards

Spread far apart from one another,Caelidhastwo Starlight Shards. One is available much earlier if you explore a larger percentage of Limgrave, but these Starlight Shards are generallyeasy to reachand located not far from Sites of Grace. Both are placed with stone astrolabes and arerelatively unguarded.

Northern Caelid Shard

On thenorthern side of Caelid, you can reach this Starlight Shard early by teleporting to theBestial Sanctumfrom itsspecial teleport locationin Limgrave (not far from the first Tibia Mariner) and then headingsouth, or by progressing past Dragon Greyll on the bridge and headingnorth from Farum Greatbridge’s Site of Grace. Thecliffsidethe stone astrolabe sits upon is onlyaccessible by approaching from the north-western side.

Western Caelid Shard

Westof theCaelid Highway SouthSite of Grace, the stone astrolabe with the Starlight Shard will be situatedon the hill. It’s in plain sight and unguarded, so merely march up the hill and take it for yourself.

Mt. Gelmir Starlight Shard

There is only one Starlight Shard inMt. Gelmir, and it is the hardest stone astrolabe Starlight Shard to take. It requiresascending the mountain on the northern side— a difficult task on its own — and climbing the ladder or using the Spiritspring at theNinth Mt. Gelmir Campsiteto reach a large nest of sorts.

Inside this nest is theFull-Grown Fallingstar Beast. It isnot an easy fight— especially if you don’t rely on magic. you may attempt to grab the Starlight Shard without fighting, but its speed and reach make this a difficult task to undertake without taking massive damage or outright dying. In general, it is recommended todefeat the Fallingstar Beastand take the Starlight Shard afterward.

Atlus Plateau Starlight Shards

There aretwo Altus PlateauStarlight Shards, and both can be found on thewestern sidetowards Mt. Gelmir. Both locations will require venturing far from a Site of Grace and fighting enemy hordes to reach, meaning that both locations will be theleast recommendedto find Starlight Shards — unless you don’t wish to undertake Ranni’s quest, but still want Seluvis’s Spirit Ashes.

Shaded Castle Shard

From theShaded Castle Ramparts, jump downandcircle the castleon thewestern side. You’ll probably want to ventureacross the poison swampatop Torrent, racing past the slugs and the flowers to avoid being knocked from Torrent or poisoned. Once past them all, you’ll want to carefullycircle around the castle onto the cliffside, venturing towards the back, where you should be able to spot the stone astrolabe from afar.

Hermit Village Shard

With the exception of the Starlight Shard guarded by the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast, this is themost heavily guardedstone astrolabe. It can be found justeastof theHermit Village, and reaching it will require you todefeat a horde of enemies at the entrance to the town. Failure to do this first may result in the beasts of Hermit Village flanking you upon your approach to the stone astrolabe, and swarming you.

Once these beasts are defeated, you’ll need to take on asecond horde directly in front of the stone astrolabe. Be wary of the area directly to the right of the astrolabe as aglintstone sorcererwill be waiting to cast glintstone magic in support of the demi-humans. Of all enemies,he should be prioritizedas he will contribute the highest risk.

Mountaintops Of The Giants Starlight Shards

There aretwo Starlight Shardsin the Mountaintops of the Giants. They’re each guarded by minor enemies, but they’re fairly easy to dispatch with prior knowledge and a bit of Souls grit.

Castle Sol Shard

Southwest of Castle Sol, you’ll find this Starlight Shard at a stone astrolabe on thesecond tier of the cliffside, nearest to the Minor Erdtree. Depending on your approach, you might need to contend with either theDeath Rite Birdboss(from the south) orlightning strikes(from Castle Sol).

If you managed to get to Castle Sol first without fighting the Death Rite bird, then it is recommended to insteadcome from the Castle Sol Exterior Gatefor general ease.

Foot Of The Forge Shard

From theFoot of the ForgeSite of Grace, travelslightly north and then easttoward the cliff where two giants will be waiting. Ignore them, sneaking behind the tree, and head for the stone astrolabe hiding around the corner.

Be wary, however, of thegiant hand monsterlurking in the ground before it. Dispatch it before taking the Starlight Shard for yourself, and rounding out your Starlight Shard collection.

For ease in dispatching the hand monster, carry some form of fire— be that incantation, spell, ash of war, or otherwise. The fire will cause the hand tospasm without attacking you, giving you time to get hits in and dispatch it quickly without fearing it may knock you off the cliffside you were so keen on getting close to.
