While most of the quests Geralt can take inThe Witcher 3’sfirst region, Velen, focus on helping the local population deal with their daily struggles and any troubles that the war has brought to their doorstep, you may help the invader, too.

Blood Ties is a short quest that you can take at the Nilfgaardian camp set up in the southeast corner of Velen. Geralt is contracted by a Nilfgaardian woman to search for her missing son. She had come all the way to the front line to search and is clearly determined to discover his fate. Geralt can help her with that.
How To Start Blood Ties
This quest is accepted at theNilfgaardian Army Group ‘Center’ Camp,in the southeast of Velen. You will need to talk to a woman sitting by the entrance, under a tent.
She explains that she had stopped receiving her son’s regular letters and has come to fear the worst. To find out the truth for herself, she traveled to Velen only to be brushed off or ignored by his fellow soldiers. With nowhere else to turn, she asks Geralt totalk to the camps' Quartermaster.
There arethree waysto learn where her son’s body is.
Bribery
You can pay150 orensto the Quartermaster to learn where the body is. This is usually a crime, but he lets it slide this once.
Axii
WithDelusion at level two,Geralt will be able tocharm the Quartermaster.Doing so will allow him to learn where the body isfor free.
Doing A Favor
The Quartermaster willtell Geralt where the body isif you have already completedContract: Patrol Gone Missing.
If youinvestigate furtherand discover what the patrol was doing,this option will be unavaliable.
The Quartermaster tells Geralt that her sonhad desertedand was likely killedat a nearby swamp.Geralt will have to find his body.
Searching The Swamp
You will need to travel toHouse of Respiteto pick up the trail. It starts from adead horselayingclose tothe fast travel point. Geralt will be able topick up a trail of footstepsfrom there, eventually leading to some hanged deserters.
The corpses haveattracted necrophages.Geralt might beattacked by ghoulsduring his search.
Inspect the one in the green shirt.His red hair identifies him as the missing son. Pick up his final letteron the groundbehind him. With both items, Geralt canbring proof back to his mother.
There isno differencebetween embellishing his death and telling the truth. Geralt will be rewarded either way, ending the quest.
