Valkyrie Profile: Lennethis a little unlike any other RPG out there - it goes a long way to distinguish itself from the tropes and standards of the genre, which is impressive, considering it’s a game from the ’90s.

One of the ways it does this is in its item acquisition methods. Sure, you acquire many items from enemies or chests, but many items are exclusive to the game’s transmutation system, which allows you to change items from one thing to another in exchange for a few Materialize Points, which are the game’s currency.
Transmutation Levels
You have access toTransmutationfrom the very beginning of the game - it’s an option in theUse Item menu. Using it allows you to change many of the items you have, often into something more useful or similar in power. Many of these transmutations areone-way, while some items, such as skill and spell books, can beflipped between two different formsusing the mechanic.
There are, in fact,three different levels of transmutation, allowing you to transmute items into better items, or completely different items. As a rule of thumb, the higher the level of transmutation, the better the result. To access the higher levels of transmutation, you’ll have to equip Valkyrie with specific items.
Valkyrie must haveneitherthe Creation Gem or the Creation Jewel equipped.

Note that theCreation Gemis a totally separate item from theGem of Creation!
You will find the Creation Gem inside the Tower of Lezard Valeth, which is only available on Normal and Hard mode. Once you have activated themagic circles, take the one further to the east than the one in the room with the save point. Follow the path after transporting to find three chests - one of these contains the Creation Gem.
The only way to get a Creation Jewel is bytransmutating an Orihalcon with the Creation Gem equipped. There arethree ways to obtain an Orihalcon:
Our recommendation is touse either the Manual of Ressurection or the Fairy Bottle(depending on the difficulty) to obtain your Creation Jewel, and then purchase an Orihalcon once you have enough Materialize Points - with the Creation Jewel, it can be turned intoGram, an extremely powerful Greatsword.
Transmutating Weapons Into Gems And Crystals
Unlike most other items in the game,weapons do not get multiple different transmutation optionsbased on whether Valkyre has either of the Creation items equipped. Instead, a selection of weapons from each category of weapon may be turned into attacking items. These are eitherGems or Crystals, with Gems casting single-target spells in battle and Crystals targeting all enemies. The only exception are some Staves, which are instead turned intoTomes of Alchemy, a powerful weapon that turns enemies into a bunch of Magic Crystals, increasing your experience gain significantly.

Transmutating Items
Unlike weapons, items will often have multiple different transmutation options depending on what Valkyrie has equipped. The table below lists every item that can be transmutated, along with every option.
If an item is not listed here or in the weapon table above, it cannot be transmutated. If a cell in the table has just a single dash in it, this means you won’t be able to transmutate it at that level.
